Biltmore Collection

I thought today I'd share a little of the furniture that I'm around all day at my new
job in design/sales at Drexel Heritage/Henredon/Thomasville here in Oklahoma City.
That table above folds out, so when not in use
it can be a narrow sofa table or be placed against the wall if needed.
I adore that china cabinet too. Love the legs on it.

Just showing a little from one of the collections were carry -
The Biltmore Collection from Fine Furniture Design.
This collection is based on the furniture owned by Vanderbilt family.
They were world travelers and collectors so you can imagine the inspiration their belongings provide.
Some of the pieces in the collection are inspired by antique pieces at the Vanderbilt Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
Some are inspired by the architecture and gardens of the estate and some by possessions they had in their Paris apartment.
I always meant to go visit this magnificent estate when I lived in Georgia but I never got around to it.
Shame on me.
The estate looks to be out of a fairy tale and I suppose it was.
Have you been there? I know several who have gone on the tour and always come away affected.
This little buffet was inspired by the gardens of Biltmore Estate.
 A lovely french inspired bed.
This bed is truly meant for a queen. This queen! As in me!
I can just imagine Violet snoozing here.
All the furniture is hand finished. Nice distressing on this piece.
I have to say...I am loving selling furniture that I know is of fine quality.
Furniture that will stand the test of time.
Isn't this a sweet little center hall table?
Barley twist anyone? My Mom would like this piece. I can totally see this in her house.

This piece appears to be a large armoire and it is....
but it opens to reveal a highly appointed bar.

I'll share other lines of furniture at my store in the near furniture.

Mod Mix Monday #134

Glamour Dining
Pretty dining room seen from above.
I'm not a purple person but this room might change my mind.
Those purple chairs are just right with that antique table.
Love the rustic chandelier high above and the mirror too.

Last week's Mod Mix Monday included many people's top projects
of 2013. It was fun to revisit some of my favorites from the past year
and discover some I'd missed.

Here are the stand outs...
Orphans with MakeUp shared a recap of her furniture redo's this year.
This was one of my favorites.
Revi of Revisionary Life shared her top 10 projects and that one above was a favorite of mine too.
Marty of A Stroll Through Life is busy decorating with greens for after Christmas.
Always a challenge but she is doing it well.
Gorgeous dresser redone with paint by Revived by Delia.
Love the lines of this baby.
Tricia of The Little Cottage on the Pond shared her favorite projects of 2013 and this vignette was included.
I just kind of adore this...and wish it was in my kitchen.
Sarah of Church Street Designs shared this cute burlap leaf wreath design.
You can make this to use year round!
Lisa of Create Inspire painted a pretty vintage vanity distressed black.
It's a beaut!
Up with Furniture shared a first year of furniture redos. There were many good ones.
I love that one above.
Love the blue of this painted dresser from The Weathered Door

Shabby Good Furniture

At the Feathered Nest Market
There is always a great selection of furniture every time I stop in at
The Feathered Nest Market in OKC.

Find them on Facebook - here.
As usual, anything turquoise catches my eye.
I showed this piece the other day. I love how the shabby way this is painted makes the details stand out.
More turquoise. This is a very glamorous vanity, indeed.
My friend, Jill who I was with this day loved this chair.
I do like the way they made it over.
Isn't it fun?
I thought the paint technique on this piece was interesting.
Just a gray wash over the existing finish.
Super easy and I do like the way it looks.
This one stopped me because of the drawer pulls.
Aren't they sweet?
Simple white...always good.
Pretty little metal frame.
I loved this clock. I need this clock. I usually avoid clocks.
My biggest flaw is that I'm late to everything and clocks don't help...they just make me feel bad about myself.
For real...I avoid them.
Another turquoise piece. This time a buffet.
Ok, another variation on turquoise again.
I would never look at these tables in their original finish.
I would consider them way too gaudy but put a little aqua paint and highlighting on them
and now they are fabulous!

Mom and I are hitting up the new Homegoods today in Norman.
I am very excited that we finally have one.
Mom just popped in the other day to make sure it was worth me making the trip.

I already knew it was worth the trip.

But she had never been in one.
She called me from the store saying,
"I'm at Homegoods! You will love it!"

I was like, "You were suppose to wait to go with me!"

She said, "Oh, I just peeked.. I just wanted to make sure it was worth your drive and it is!"

So we are going today after I get off work.

I feel so lucky that I have my Mom and her health is good.
Last year at this time she didn't feel good at all.
We are so lucky that open heart surgery last December fixed what was wrong with her
and she is back to doing all the things she loves to do.

I ran into a friend at the store the other day who is not so lucky.
Doctors told her that they feared she would die immediately on the table if they tried
to fix what is wrong with her heart.

Hard to believe in this day and time that nothing can be done for her.

Yes, I am so lucky that my Mom's heart was fixable.

Jacobean Buffets or Sideboards

I'm obsessed with them.
Truly
And gosh this is a pretty display. And an especially nice example of this type of buffet, too.
When I bought my 1931 storybook cottage, one of the first things I knew I must have
was a jacobean style 1920's or 30's buffet.
I'd seen a few painted white like that example above.
Once painted,
I think all their moldings and carvings look like scrumptious icing on a fancy wedding cake.
They look equally as good in turquoise. This combo above is a stunner.
This one looks like it belongs at the beach.
I love the bulbous legs and scallops.
more yummy turquoise
A worn paint effect looks good on these also.
Even in a bold yellow these beauties shine.
Hello Sunshine! You make me happy.
Very flattering in gray too.
Quite elegant painted gray with white trim.
perfection
Now this one...is at least three pieces of furniture put together.
The Frankenstein of sideboards.
Quite amazing although I'd be fearful it would all topple on me one day.
This shabby one is all done up for the holidays...which brings me to the point of this post
other than I just love looking at all these.
My own buffet has been patiently waiting to be done up for Christmas.
This will be the first time. Here it dons an every day look.
It's been done up for Easter
It got streamlined for late summer.
spookified for Halloween
and burdened with Thanksgiving's harvest earlier this month.
But it's never been decked out for the Holidays.

Soon it will be though...I'm very excited to see how it all turns out.
I really have no idea what I am putting there...but something will
appear soon.
I'm going through all my boxes of Christmas things just as I know all of you are too
and coming up with something to delight the senses this
Christmas Time.

I know most linky parties are starting with mantels but I kind of decorate all at once.
Well, no usually the tree first and then scatter all else about.
But I'm going to finish the mantel first this time with it subject to change as the rooms develop.

Today I met a lady that does Christmas as her business 24/7 a year.
She owns a company that decorates for large corporations, malls, big buildings, etc...
She came in the store wearing a Christmas sweater and I commented that she was
in the Christmas spirit and she said...
"I dress like this every day. It's my business."
Which led to a long discussion of exactly what was her business.
Decorating for Christmas is her business.
She says it's exhausting. I can just imagine.

Are you exhausted yet?
