Ruffle Chair

Score!.....sort of
See this chair?
I have wanted it forever from Pier 1.
Like several years.
It is actually a slipcover over a chair they sell.
Originally this cover was $70 and the chair $199.
I could not afford that of course...besides I didn't need a chair.

So, I'm looking through local markdowns the other day and find that one of our
stores has this slipcover marked down to $9.98!

I raced to get it.
I thought it would fit my office chair.
Alas...it doesn't. It is just too tight on the back.

Am I crazy to keep it in hopes of finding the perfect chair it will fit?
By the time I find it, will I be tired of this fabric?

Here is what the fabric looks like...
It's just too cute to take back.
Surely, I can find something to do with it.

It looks great with my sofa.
The chair this slips over is now $150...still too much...considering that I still don't need a chair.

I just wanted it to slide over my office chair and transform it.

pooh!
oh well...

I was on a bargain shopping roll on Friday.
I went to a flea market at the County Fairgrounds in Norman, OK.
My sister has a booth there where she sells jewelry she makes.
I bought a few things including a bracelet and earrings from my sis.

I had a pretty good time finding some things for little money.
I bought lots of doilies for 50 and 25 cents each so I can make one of these runners.
I also bought a china gravy boat that will mix well with my miscellaneous rose china.
An old bottle came home with me too that will be used for a craft project.
I know...old bottles don't sound like me but you'll see soon what I'll do with it.

Sounds like something that would happen to me! Get if for a steal, to have it not fit. LOL. Maybe you can ebay it and make a few bucks? Sounds like you found some other fun stuff to make up for it though =)

I love the slipcover and it would look darling on an office chair! Can you slit it up the back and add a "filler" in a solid color? Than you could put on some satin or gross grain ribbon ties to gussy it up... I'll bet with a little thinking and canoodling you can make it work!

can you slit the back and insert a solid color or coordinating print piece of fabric to make it a little larger so it will fit your chair? just a thought. hugs JoAnn

I love that slipcover, too, Nita! :D You will find a chair for it eventually. That doily runner is too cute. I look forward to seeing yours and what you do with the old bottle!

Hi Nita~ ~
I love your doilly runner. Never say one before and it is a great idea. Did you stitch them all together?

Keep that slipcover! The day will come when you will work something out using it and it will be great.

I LOVE the fabric on the slipcover, I would keep it if it were I. You may find a chair that it fits, or you may be able to expand it by sewing a pleat in the back and adding a small amount of fabric. I know that's what I would do if it were mine.

That is a great slip cover Nina and I can see why you want to keep it. I redid a chair with that fabric and sadly it has no sold yet!:( You can get that fabric at Hobby Lobby if you have one close by. It is has a suede feel to it so not sure what the slip cover fabric is like.

Thanks for the comments on how I could make the chair cover larger. I'm going to take a look at it and see if I can do that.

I did not know this fabric was at Hobby Lobby! Good to know. I had seen it on line and it said it was velvet.

But this is more like a really heavy linen. But I'll go to the Hob Lob and see. I am thinking I might make a slip cover for my cushions on the sofa from it.

I would try to piece something on the back as several others have said. Love the print and if you love it, you know you want to make it work!

Normally I would agree with everyone else but I just dragged a table, a bedside table and a footstool downstairs. ALL of them I had BIG plans for. Sigh....
and now I no longer need them.
Sadly I had bought fabric to cover the footstool, but maybe I will make a pillow or a dog bed out of it.
Hey! There's an idea.
anyway, Good Luck!

I'm wondering about your bottle idea. Curious to see what you come up with!

Nita it is possible to make the slipcover fit your chair...you can add a slit and then add a piece of fabric in solid brown like the background color...its called a gusset pleat...maybe you can google how to do it. Or you could slit it and then use pink ribbon and do a corset tie or simple ties in ribbon to hold it togehter...who cares if it isn't perfect from the back? I have some doilies I can send you if you like...

oh I didn't see the comments! everyone has the right idea for your slipcover! slit it and make it fit with ribbons or fabrics or both!

Keep it...it was such a great price...maybe they'll mark that chair donw more and you'll be able to get it...there's always hope
I waited and waited for a chair to go down at a local furniture store here...and found one on craigs list for 20 bucks! Hang in there my thrifty designer friend...I bet you'll find one.
