White in the Cottage

I Love White
(especially white furniture)

Marianne at
is celebrating 1,000 followers and asked everyone to celebrate by linking up
"Why They Love White".
No one ever really comments on how much white I have in my home because I have
lots of color too. But I love white and especially white furniture because of how great other colors look against it.
And you can take a ratty old piece of furniture, paint it white and it's immediately transformed.

I mix my white with lots of color
I actually have a new white paint project I'm working on at the moment.
I can never get enough of it.

Oh....remember this table?
When I had the house tour last month...I ran out of time to finish painting it.
So it appeared in all its glory wearing white primer only.
It's a game table and the top is very very heavy as it opens up to be used for games
and has an inside compartment to store the games in.
This table was giving me by a friend who didn't want it because the top was very wobbly.
Well after I took this photo...I moved the table to work on it and
paint the final color. But as I moved it; the top completely came off.

Fixing it involved taking it all apart and screwing in very long screws which I did yesterday.
Yes, it's been sitting in my living room in pieces for like a month.

Now, it's better than ever. It's not wobbly any more.

So I'm finally able to paint it.
Not white though....I know...shocking!

I am really drawn to white now too. My house is dark so I think it would lighten things up. I love color though, especially red but find myself choose white pieces more often. Love your dining room set and different colored cushions.

You have a lot of nice white. It helps balance out the color.

I am late, but Nita, YOUR HOME IS SO GREAT! I just bought a sideboard today at a yard sale that was REALLY A BARGAIN and now I just have to change the knobs. I came over to take a peak at your previous post on that painted furniture shop you featured, but now I see this GREAT DISPLAY! Happy day dearest, Anita

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your house!!! You use white in such a fantastic way. I've seen the all white houses but I think I'd miss color...you combine the two just right. Great inspiration for me! I'm your latest follower. So glad I found your site!

Dear Nita, I LOVE your blog, I can't get enough photos of your house. For the first time I noticed the huge white frame filled with pictures. Are those postcards, magazine photos? I would love to do an inspiration board like that in my craft room.

Rhona -
I tried to email you but this comment went to "No Reply" That big frame with the small pictures in it is a bulletin board. I bought the large frame at Hobby Lobby and painted it white then inserted a cork board covered with fabric. The original intent was that this would be an inspiration board that I would tack things to as I came across them...but I printed out some of my favorite images off the computer and couldn't stop. I filled the whole thing with favorite photos and art off the internet. One day I may take them all off and put other things up but have really loved how it's looked so haven't been inspired to do so.

Hope you come back and read this.

You have such a wonderful colorful home, and yet I don't think it would work half as good without all the whites.
I love your unique style!

I finally found a quiet morning to visit everybody again and actually leave a comment this time.
Thank you again for playing in my We Love White linky party!
