How do you feel about aluminum Christmas trees?
I hated them when I was a kid.
I was totally influenced by Charlie Brown and Linus going shopping amidst the purple and pink aluminum trees
and coming home with a small shriveled real tree.
A tree that with a little love became THE perfect tree.
I wanted nothing to do with any color of tree but green when I was a child.
But now...I really enjoy seeing many variations of the old aluminum tree.
I remember our neighbors to the south of us had a silver aluminum tree with
the color wheel and I just thought it was terrible shining in their window.
But...now I think all of these are pretty fantastic.
This one seems to make Santa happy.
Yes, to this pink one in a white vase.
Love those red deer with this tree.
A lovely aqua number.
Another pretty turquoise one.
Modern versions of aluminum trees have come a long way.
Do you like aluminum or tinsel trees as good as green ones?
I think they both say Christmas to me.

I also have come to love what I once ridiculed. My daughter-in-law has had one the last few years and it looks beautiful in her mix of vintage and modern. If I only had room I'd find a way to include a small one somewhere. These are all beautiful. I'm partial to the one with pink in a white vase.
I have only green trees in the front room and family room but have a small aluminum one in my sons room. He picked it out himself and loves it. He just turned 14, and is home sick but happy up in his room with his tree lit up next to his vintage santa lamp.
I have a teeny aluminum one in a empty spool.....5 inches, maybe. We had a white tree for our first few Christmases.......loved it. Mostly green here......would love a little pnik one though. Love Charlie Brown trees.
My grandma used to have the one with the color wheel. I remember laughing at it. Love that picture you posted with the wheel.
LOve tinsel trees..any trees really. Wish I had my Grandmother's tinsel tree in all of my early childhood photographs!
Ours was always green and traditional but hers was glamorous! I have one now on my dining room table it is old but not as old as me! I have a pink feather one too that I bought here in Oklahoma at a thrift store for a song! Do you have one of the old ceramic trees with the light bulbs?? I found mine here in Oklahoma too((it is white))...Grandmother had one of those as well it was green and she made it in ceramics so it reminds me of her :).
I am rambling I know so have a great day enjoy our sunshine and I look forward to your Christmas decor post!
I have had way too much caffeine this morning ....
Hi, I also hated them when I was a kid. We always had a real tree. Now I love them because they are so pretty and vintage. I still always have a real tree but I also have several faux shiny trees that I put around my home. Thanks for the lovely photos.
I was the same way when I was young! I thought aluminum trees or any non-green trees were completely hideous! But now I really, really adore aluminum and white ones! These examples you have shared are so beautiful!

As a kid, I hated aluminum trees! My parents had one with a lighted color wheel. It seemed so not Christmasy to me LOL! Fast forward to today, and I would love to have one of my own!

I love those Aluminum Trees!!!! They remind me of my childhood... I swear i'm gonna get one, one of these years...
Ciao for now...
I think they're fun for a mid-Century era house but other than that, I'm not a big fan.
Oh...I loved everyone's stories of their memories of aluminum trees and how they felt about them. Steve said only in a mid century house and I do feel a mid century house needs one. But I think they are fine mixed in with other types of decor and think one would even look good in Steve's house. To me they have a vintage feel. I never liked the porcelain trees with the lights stuck in the tips. Those were everywhere when I was young. But now when I see them....I smile...although I will NEVER have one. I did go to my friend Shannon's house the other night and found someone had given her one but it was new and had led lights in it. But it looked to be made from the same mold as the old ones.
People change, and sometimes so drastically. I was a real tomboy, and now I love pink and dazzled stuff. :-) I actually love all these trees. A couple of years ago I would say no, but now I honestly do.
When I was a child, I just loved aluminum Christmas trees but we always cut down a little cedar tree because we couldn't afford a pretty aluminum tree. One year my mother stopped at a yard sale in July where a lady was selling ALL her used Christmas decorations including an aluminum tree with color wheel! Mom bought it All and we loaded our 1955 Chevy station wagon singing Christmas carols! Ha! Then we had the best Christmas ever that year! Great memory! When I was an adult I married a man who owned a chain saw so it has been live trees every since. Thanks for posting the aluminum tree photos. I think it was just the time we grew up in.
... we never had one of the aluminum trees(my college roommate had one...complete with color wheel)...but we did have a family of those red deer...my mom still has one left...and he stands proudly in her home each Christmas...blessings laney
You know I LOVE them!
Check out my blog today.
Maybe you can help me.

I kind of looooove them!
I'm sure that you already know that I ADORE them. How could I not?
and I always have.
But if I was to be totally honest, the best Christmas that I remember as a child, a really young kid...was a BIG white FLOCKED tree that took up most of our living room. (not that I'd ever want one now. No way.)but that was the happiest Christmas ever.
I love them! We have a fake green tree that has all the ornaments the kids have made and our hallmark ornaments but for my old Shiny Brites and other old ornaments, they just look so much better on an aluminum tree so we have one of those on a table where they won't get knocked over.
Oh that was fun to see all the various trees... we have a green 'permanent' tree (a better word than artificial don't you think?) and this year I stuffed tissue paper in it for 'snow'. I have several smaller trees about the house of varying materials, from tinsel to metal, to ones covered in sparkly pine cones, oh and one made of white feathers : )

Nita! These are my favorite kind of christmas tree, how I "pine" for a 6'ft Pine! I have a 4ft pine that I always put up in the den, but I hope to aquire a 6ft one for our new coral livingroom next year! We have a traditional green tree in the lounge that is always done up with homemade decorations. If you go over to my blog and read the post "Thanksmass 1958" you can see both of our trees!
I was suggested this website by my cousin. I'm not sure whether this post is written by him as no one else know such detailed about my problem. You're amazing!
Thanks!

I just purchased a vintage one from a charming older couple (older than ME, even). 6' and approximately 60 years old. I'♥-ing it!
There are several stores in my city that put aluminum trees in their windows. One especially has multiple trees. They are beautiful when the sun hits them.
The old aluminum trees bring back memories for me and I wonder if they make them anywhere anymore or if they will come back. I recall my aunt had a purple one with ornaments in lavender and pink. It was one of the most unique Christmas trees I have ever seen.
