Curtains Outside

Instant Romance Added
These photos speak for themselves.
I have the perfect spot for sheer white curtains in my backyard.
I've a small pergola attached to the side of my garage but I never spend any time back there.
Perhaps I would if I hung curtains?

It would make it a small private spot in the backyard.
Yes, now that I think about it...I do need curtains there!

Do you have a spot outside that would be better with the addition of curtains?

Something to ponder...

Today I'm busy doing very non fun stuff.
Going to traffic court....yuck...yuck...yuck.

I hate it when unfortunate realities intrude on my idealized (in my mind anyway) life!

Wish me luck...I'm hoping the little traffic ticket I got for a minor violation that
the police officer felt was not so minor might get dismissed by the judge.

Oh...I hope so!

Outdoor Dining

Are you dining outdoors this holiday week and weekend?
I worked at the store on the 4th and will be working the rest of the weekend.
We had a surge of people coming in to buy furniture and necessaries for outdoor
living.
Seems many put off getting their outdoor spaces in shape till the very last minute.
The last few days have been super busy at the store but the 4th was REALLY busy.
I was worn out by the time we locked the doors.

The weather has been gorgeous here and I think everyone was inspired to live outside this week!

I know I have been.

I had a lady tell me at the store that I was such a great sales person.
I do hear this all the time.

I tell them what I always tell them. I don't care at all about selling...
I'm just interested in helping them getting their spaces together.
I live and breath decorating and live vicariously through their purchases.

It's just fun to me to help someone put together their space!

As example...my friend Deidra came in the store yesterday and saw an outdoor
elephant sculpture.
She has a thing for elephants.
That's him...he's quite large.
Anyway....she said I don't need him.
I said, "but he'd make a great plant stand or foot stool."
"Foot Stool!"
she said.
"Oh that's so practical...you know how I like my feet up!"
SOLD
She was like....Oh...you are good....you turned a foolish purpose into something practical.

Oh...I can rationalize any decorating purchase!

She happily left with him and several other things she absolutely had to have after
I pointed out how necessary they were.

Did you get all your celebrating done yesterday?

I had hotdogs, baked beans, corn on the cob and watermelon...
but more to come on the weekend.

I used these in our drinks to make them festive...
Aren't they fun?....like having a sparkler in your drink!

Keep Celebrating!

Outdoor Candlelight

Twig Lanterns
This post was a long time in coming.
Like a year.
Last year...I collected twig lanterns when I could find them on sale
from different sources during the summer.
By end of summer I had seven of them.
**UPDATE**
I had several you ask where I bought my lanterns...
I found them at Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx and Marshalls.
I bought some remote controlled led outdoor candles last week at Pier 1
to burn in them, finally.
I love that with one click I can turn them all on...flickering candlelight and no mess.
Really, the main reason I wanted to use these instead of real candles is I didn't want to turn the glass
inside all black.
And I wanted to be able to leave them outside without worrying about them
melting.
These candles are made of plastic instead of wax and they won't melt.
They are 20% off at Pier 1 through July 7th.
See them here

There was so much good stuff in last week's Mod Mix Monday that I'm showing off
the stuff I loved that was garden related in this post.
Melissa of Daisy Mae Belle created a cute canning jar lid wreath but I'm really
showing this because her backyard is so pretty.
Cindy of Sunset Coast painted this pot.
Isn't it fun! I love her use of color.
Penny of Penny's Vintage Home has a new fireplace in her garden made by someone she calls H.
I assume it's her hubby. How wonderful to have as a focal point in the garden.
Angi of Drakestone Primitives Country Cabin took a little metal table and added
some painted details making this perfect for use in the garden.
In His Grip spray painted a very sad little vintage tricycle pink and
is now using it as a planter.
Isn't it precious?

Mod Mix Monday is still going on

Garden Rust

Romantic Rustic Rust
Is there any better place for a little rust?
In the Garden for sure...
Like the garden object is going back to nature....to be one with the soil again eventually.
White garden chairs are always better with a little rust.
Rusted objects peak out amid green foliage.
A forgotten gate.
Climbing roses entwine this rusted fence.
A perfect garden urn...rust and roses.

Thanks for all your kind comments about my paintings the other day.
Next to paint on my list is portraits of the weenies.

I must take a photo of Harvey.
He has lost weight.
I put him on a diet a couple of months ago and he's still chubby but not so.
He's got a spring in his step.

Funny thing is...he is not the one asking for food all the time.
I am spoon feeding them so I can control how much each one eats.

Violet is the one demanding food all the time.
So I guess before Harvey was mostly eating out of boredom.

I think he's lost about 5 pounds.
I need to weigh him.

I took tours of two gardens in the neighborhood this week.
I'll show soon.

Have an Awesome Saturday!

Metal Garden Furniture

Making it Cozy
I have a thing for iron scrolly garden furniture.
I have a little on my front porch.
I love it's pretty lines but it does seem a bit cold.
I've been watching Craigslist for weeks looking for furniture for my back deck.
This vintage set has been on there for for quite awhile.
It just seems a bit cold...doesn't it?
I'm guessing others think so too so it hasn't sold.
But browsing Pinterest I've found many examples of how you can take the plainest of garden benches
and soften them up. Make them inviting.
Just look at that space above...it's just begging you to take a nap.
The only thing that makes it so is the addition of a quilt.
Here a daybed gets the treatment.
Another daybed...complete with floral cushions and matching pillows.
Daybeds seem such a luxury in the garden.
Here just a plain chaise becomes the ultimate garden bed.
So romantic with the addition of pillows.
Just a common garden bench becomes the ultimate place to spend the afternoon
when pillows and quilts are added.
And this is just your ordinary park bench but cover it in romantic pillows
and it becomes something special.

Looking through this makes me want to just gather up all the odds and end pillows
I have around the house and throw them on my bench.

As it stands right now...I keep having to retrieve my outdoor pillows from the yard.
Last night was a big night of storms in Oklahoma City.

Again they skipped around me.
Thank goodness.
But it was really a hairy night.

Even the weather men are ready for the spring weather to end.
They are worn out from reporting it.

Last night I thought one of our old time weather guys...Gary England...
the one everyone listens to. I thought he was going to have a stroke on air...he was so hyped up.

We had tornado warnings and sirens going for hours plus
driving rain, hail and flash flooding.
I never lost power but many did.

My dogs were never scared though...they take it all in stride.

I called my Mom...she had a different set of storms forming over her
and her dogs were barking and barking at the sound of the tornado sirens.

My dogs pretty much ignored it...
Franklin kept watch of the weather at the window.

Here's a good video of some storm chasers that got too close to one of the tornadoes yesterday.

See you Sunday for an Open House!
