LA Shrinks and Kevin

Tonight is the premiere of LA Shrinks on Bravo.
It stars these three doctors and
Kevin.
I only care about Kevin.
Kevin is the Kevin of

I've been reading Kevin's blog almost from the very beginning and it's a favorite.
You know what I am most excited about this show?
Seeing Kevin's house all the time.
I'm going to bet it will be the break out star.
I adore his little Hollywood cottage.
I also bet that Kevin is going to be the best part.

You can see a clip of the show with Kevin in it - here.

This is pretty much how it goes....
Dr. Greg comes home and asks Kevin why he can't put his feet on the couch but Kevin can?
That's Kevin lounging all over the chesterfield.
Kevin says it's because he does it barefoot and Dr. Greg wears shoes.
And Kevin goes back to relaxing and reading his issue of...
which just happens to be the issue that Kevin's cottage is shown in!
coincidence?
I think not.

Then Dr. Greg goes to tell how rough the life of a psychiatrist is and
I guess Kevin just added to his bad day.

Kevin can do no wrong in my book.

I hope we see lots of the garden around the house too.

My little jade plant that Kevin sent me would like to see his Mother that lives in the garden.
It's grown since this photo last summer and will need a need another new pot soon.

Anyway...I'll be watching tonight and drinking a cocktail while I do.
It's a special occasion in my house tonight.

Watch and let me know what you think.

Dining Room

Experiments
I'm trying out some new things in the dining room.
It's hard to get a good photo because it's against a window but I brought my outdoor large planter in side the house.
I usually have large boston ferns growing in this during the warm weather months outside but
my new potting bench will be going where this usually sits and I just thought on a whim...
"Hey! Why don't I bring it inside?"
This jade plant came from my friend Kevin of
That's Kevin's mantel and this is Kevin's staircase...
His house is amazing and I'm not the only one who thinks so.
He and his home are in the latest issue of Flea Market Style.
This is a great issue by the way.

Anyway, back to the jade plant.

Kevin sent it to me in a box last summer hacked off his giant jade plant he has growing outside his
California cottage.

This is how it looked after I planted it then.
I replanted it the other day because it was outgrowing its pot.
I fear it hasn't been getting enough light.
I'm hoping this new spot in the window will keep it happy.
I just threw some other things in this stand to fill it up for now.
I can imagine this being a place to do rotating displays.
Wouldn't it be pretty filled with orchids and african violets?
I don't think that's going to happen though...I'm not into taking care of houseplants.
That fern is fake. Kevin's jade plant is all I can manage.
What do you think? Do you like this in the dining room?

Here you can see it with a glimpse of the shutters that I recently brought in the house too.
They are in great shape. I just have to decide what color I want to paint them.
I have them on both sides of the dining room window.
I want them to have a very distressed finished whatever color I decide on.
Mom said she liked them as is...but I think they must be painted.

Are you having a good week?
Mine's going well.

Jade Plant

Hollywood Forever, Kevin
A couple of weeks ago, Kevin of the blog....
asked me if I'd like a cutting from one of his jade plants.
Well, of course I did, thinking about the gorgeous garden that surrounds his
old Hollywood cottage.
This is his grotto photographed at night.
Magical, isn't it?
I jumped at the chance to have a little of the magic of his garden.
He said he'd send me a clipping..
But the package that came was quite large and the clipping like 12 inches tall.
It looked like a full grown jade plant once I stuck it in a pot.
Nothing like instant gratification gardening.
I'm hope it will do well for me.
He said he has them as large as 5 feet tall in his garden.
Here's Kevin's grotto during the day.
This was his recent whimsical afternoon party in his garden.
I love the parasols in the branches of the trees.
What a great idea this is for instant shade.
His home is amazing.
I hope you'll go by and take a look at his blog...it is one of my most favorites.
You'll see many photos of his home.
He recently painted his stairs in variations of blue.
I love this so much. And don't even get me started on the original chain handrail!

I hope you'll go by and explore his entire blog...
So I did a little gardening indoors thanks to Kevin.
Outside I've just about given up.
It's been so hot and dry here that my plants outside are really struggling.
My little wall fountain is managing to grow the money wort in the heat just fine
with daily waterings. But the fern burned up a few weeks ago and the impatiens quit
blooming a month ago.
I also planted a birdbath and pot with impatiens and grasses but they aren't blooming either.
Notice all my shade grass is dead. I guess I'll be reseeding this fall.
My thai basil is growing like crazy....it doesn't seem to mind the hot sun.
But all ferns are scorched and they usually do so well on my back deck.
Everything will start to look much better in September, I'm sure...just in time
for it all to die at the end of October.

How is your garden growing?
