More Shutter Inspiration

Shut My Mouth!
Shutters provide extreme prettiness.
Isn't this scrumptious?
I'm still thinking about what color to paint my shutters but.....I know I really need to paint my
walls. I'm so over the light butter yellow that they are.
I loved them seven years ago....but am so tired of them now.
That gray above is really nice, isn't it?
Love this vignette with shutters and more gray walls.
This bedroom is just charming.
Another use of shutters as headboards. I have always loved that Aidan Gray lamp in this photo.
Shutters look great in this room just in their natural wood color.
I love the texture these shutters bring to a dining room space.
These big beefy ones in turquoise are fantastic...aren't they?
Shutters can really bring some much needed character to a room which is what I think they will
do in my dining room. Add some character.

Dining Room

Experiments
I'm trying out some new things in the dining room.
It's hard to get a good photo because it's against a window but I brought my outdoor large planter in side the house.
I usually have large boston ferns growing in this during the warm weather months outside but
my new potting bench will be going where this usually sits and I just thought on a whim...
"Hey! Why don't I bring it inside?"
This jade plant came from my friend Kevin of
That's Kevin's mantel and this is Kevin's staircase...
His house is amazing and I'm not the only one who thinks so.
He and his home are in the latest issue of Flea Market Style.
This is a great issue by the way.

Anyway, back to the jade plant.

Kevin sent it to me in a box last summer hacked off his giant jade plant he has growing outside his
California cottage.

This is how it looked after I planted it then.
I replanted it the other day because it was outgrowing its pot.
I fear it hasn't been getting enough light.
I'm hoping this new spot in the window will keep it happy.
I just threw some other things in this stand to fill it up for now.
I can imagine this being a place to do rotating displays.
Wouldn't it be pretty filled with orchids and african violets?
I don't think that's going to happen though...I'm not into taking care of houseplants.
That fern is fake. Kevin's jade plant is all I can manage.
What do you think? Do you like this in the dining room?

Here you can see it with a glimpse of the shutters that I recently brought in the house too.
They are in great shape. I just have to decide what color I want to paint them.
I have them on both sides of the dining room window.
I want them to have a very distressed finished whatever color I decide on.
Mom said she liked them as is...but I think they must be painted.

Are you having a good week?
Mine's going well.

Shutters

Shut the Window!
I'm still thinking about what to do with my new to me shutters.
I planned to show my dining room yesterday with the shutters in place. Not painted yet.
But Mom showed up last night after work and it was dark before she left so it did not happen.
I'm thinking I'll paint them like those above. Chippy and blue.
Of course Mom walked in the door and it was the first thing she saw.
She LOVES shutters with a capitol..L...O...V...E...S!
She immediately asked what was up with them.
Thank goodness they are big and she has no place for them.
Because I know her, she cannot resist shutters and I cannot resist Mom.
Anyway they are still here and will become something here.
As for life's reality....I came home a bit ago to find a notice on my door that my gas has been turned off.
What!
Oh..no!....but then realized I had not seen a bill in months.
I think I have Franklin to thank for that.
He has as big a thing for mail as the rest of them.
Sometimes they DO make life difficult.

Hope you are having a better day than me.

Shutters

I Shutter to Think
Last night my friend Deidra gifted me with a pair of double shutters.
Much like those in the photo above. Two pairs of tall shutters...like 6 feet!
They are older but unpainted. Currently raw wood ready for whatever paint I choose.
She'd used them as a room divider but didn't need them any more since she moved.
At first I thought I'd paint them distressed turquoise and use on either side of the window
in the dining room.
But after looking for inspiration...they may end up in my bedroom.
So many uses for old shutters.
Love the color of these.
They add interest to any room.
They provide texture and interest to a wall.
I would have never thought to use them in a nook like this...but they totally work.
Love the color of these too.
This got me to thinking of turning them into a closet....lord knows I need more storage.
Perhaps matching closets on either side of the bedroom window?
I'll probably paint them turquoise but maybe white.
Shutters in their intended use.

Anyway...another project here for me to do.
Why don't I ever come up with anything that just comes in the house and is left as is?

Everything always involves paint or remaking them.
I love that...but sometimes it would be nice just to walk in the door and plop something in as is.
But then what is the fun in that?

Anyway...I felt I was pretty lucky to acquire a nice set for free.

My friend Deidra has the most eclectic home.
I must go over and take photos soon.

She's from New Orleans and her decor shows it.
I was there last night and I said..."Your kitchen has become a shrine to New Orleans."
It really has...wait till you see.

Deidra practices the decorating theory of more is more and for her it works.
She has amazing things in her condo.

I must take my camera over there soon. I meant to last night but totally forgot.

Have a great weekend. I plan to!
