Daisy Too

Introducing Daisy Too!
Two weeks ago my Mom adopted a little 10 year old dachshund that needed a home.
A friend at work knew about her and asked if I wanted her.
With Violet being sick I just couldn't take on another...but I mentioned her to Mom
and when Mom heard her name...she couldn't resist.
Her name is Daisy.

You know we lost our own Daisy in February.
She looks very sad in this photo and she was very sad.
But each day she is happier and happier at my Mom's house.
The first night she slept in a dog bed in the kitchen, her choice.
The next night she came in and slept in a dog bed in the bedroom in the middle of the night.
The next night she followed Mom's other two to bed but again slept in the dog bed on the floor.
After two days of that...she decided to join the others in my Mom's king sized bed.
Mom says now she has claimed her spot in the bed and can be found there all day
when not awake.
She had so much to learn in her new home. How to use a doggy door. How to eat off a spoon.
She has the softest ears. She is just the perfect little dog.
She does love to eat and weighs almost 30 pounds.
That is why Mom is hand feeding her to limit the amount she eats.
But Mom says she wakes her at 6:30 am each day asking for food.

At first Mom thought it would hurt to call her Daisy since we'd had our own Daisy.
But Mom said she really did seem like a Daisy so she is calling her Daisy Too.
Mom's Marcus really likes her and Rosie thinks she's ok.
I'm sure it's confusing to them that Mom is calling her Daisy when they KNOW it's not THEIR
Daisy.
But all are adjusting.

It's good to know that even though we lost our little Daisy...we've been able to give another Daisy
a happy place to live out her golden years.

I always say...
There is nothing better than a puppy except a dog and the only thing better than
a dog is an old dog.

Nita,

What good timing ! Today I saw an older dog in an ad for an animal shelter here in NY State and I just sent a note asking if he was good with cats. My kitten was here first so any pets that come in now, will have to be able to accept her. She will accept anything so there is no worry there.
I found an older sad looking dog that is a mix .. he just broke my heart looking at his photo .. he looks like he gave up. So I really want to adopt him and see him happy and at home with his new family of 2 .. me and the kitten :)

Hugs to you and your mom for taking in an older dog. As you may know from my blog, we adopted a 10-year-old beagle two years ago, and she is awesome! I love older dogs, and I get such a good feeling knowing I'm saving the life of a dog who might be euthanized only due to its age. I am happy to hear Daisy Too is adjusting well. I'm sure your mom and the other dogs are happy to have her. I'm also sorry to hear you have a sick dog, and I hope all goes well. Thinking of you,
Claudia

A lovely and heartwarming story Nita, thank you for sharing with us. Hopefully Daisy Too's story will encourage lots of your readers to adopt from a shelter from puppy to senior! We have 10 rescue dogs in our home, all wonderful family members :) They make everyday special and full of love! Cheers to your dear mom for opening her heart and home to Daisy Too.

This post made me cry too, but they are happy tears. So glad to know that this darling Daisy has a new loving home. It sounds like she is adapting very well and everyone will be very content in no time. I like the name Daisy Too.

Big Texas Hugs,

What sweethearts, your mom and Daisy. Old dogs are my favorites, too, and it's wonderful that Daisy will live out her days with such love and comfort.

That is so sweet Daisy Two is in a loving home and adjusting little by little.
There is nothing sweeter than adopting a dog,( well maybe a baby)

Oh, Daisy Too is just gorgeous! She reminds me of my 'Russell', a dachshund too, that I had as a child. I've got two small dogs now, one of them being a 'special ed' dog. That one is just right for me because I'm a special education teacher. Our vet has told us most people would have had a dog with his needs put down but we don't forget that to our kids now, do we? Our other fellow is ' easy care' so to speak, and also loved infinitely.

What a wonderful story to come home and read today! Daisy sounds like she is feeling she has found a safe new mistress to live with. Blessings on you and your mom!

Hi Nita,
I took in a senior Tri pod Lab who needed a home. It was the biggest joy to do that. She has passed, but the joy of having her has not. I think your Mom is going to love her and Daisy Too will be forever grateful!!! What a beautiful thing.
Best,

A warm welcome to Daisy too! I also have old cats and they are so nice, even if it takes them time to adjust.

OH my goodness what a sweet doggy and story. Her sad eyes make me wonder what she is thinking. I'm so glad your mother took her in with her doggies and I know before long Daisy two will be a happy dog once again. When my son brought home a stray (that he had found while in college) she was so sad looking and now she is a very happy girl. Glad Daisy is in such a wonderful place with a big king sized bed!
