Mod Mix Monday #142

 via
For my inspiration today I chose this exquisite red silk buffalo check upholstered sofa.
Doesn't it look so cozy? I just want to sink into those cushions.
Love the mix of pillows on it too.
The artwork above is interesting and keeps the whole thing from being to sweet.

Without further ado....the winners of last week's Mod Mix Monday are...
Vickie of Ranger 911 grabbed this old cupboard when someone was giving it away.
It was a little to wide for her chest. How to solve that? Hang it on the wall.
I love how she styled it with a few yellow accessories including a dress and a little sewing machine.
Silvia of Shabby Soul shared her renovated kitchen.
It's lovely now but it was scary in the before photos!
Mary of Boogieboard Cottage added spring to her living room with the addition of a few things.
It looks perfect for early spring!
Katie of Upcycled Treasures knocked off a West Elm rug. Her trick?
Magic Markers!!!
Sharon at Elizabeth and Company made this pretty burlap wreath and shows you how to make one too!
Abby of Abby's Way made a special spring wreath in which she included little trinkets
she had about. She said she wanted it to be mostly neutral but still have the feeling of spring.
She succeeded.

Salvaged Kitchen Cabinets

Yesterday I showed some of my favorite funky chic kitchens.
Today I'm going to go further and show salvaged funky cabinets and other storage solutions in kitchens.
 via
I loved some of the comments from yesterday's post.
Most of you were inspired. A few couldn't imagine working in a kitchen such as these.
One commenter loved the pretty things displayed above the stove but said
that it was impractical because of the kitchen grease that would accumulate.
I hadn't even thought about that.
I have a shelf of pretties above my own stove.
I don't have any problem with them getting grease on them...since I never cook with grease or oil.
I might sauté with a little olive oil or butter or balsamic vinegar but that is rare and it does
not cause a greasy film on anything in the kitchen.

So, personally I think it's ok to have pretties in the kitchen.
I adore those cabinets above.
Just adore it. Notice the small electric stove top?
This would by a tiny kitchen in a tiny cottage.

The black wire spice rack is the star in this kitchen.
I was inspired by a rack like this when I came up with my own spice rack.
I actually wanted a little wire spice rack but came up with this instead.
It's the perfect size for the space I had available.
It's very handy to have a spice rack right by the stove.
I know many said it was a mistake when I installed it there.
They said spices should be kept in cool dark place but I use them up pretty quickly
because they are always in sight.
So it has not been a problem.

Just look at this row of cabinets and hutches! This makes for delightful kitchen cabinets.

Here industrial shelving does the trick. I'm really a fan of these shelves anyway.
I used to have some of these in my old office with seagrass baskets on them.
They looked pretty awesome.
Anyway...even though all this stuff is exposed in this kitchen...it still looks very nice.
Interesting.

This kitchen really has shelves. Those there at the right remind me of the old metal bins
you used to see at hardware stores.
This kitchen is too rustic for my own use but I do think it looks divine.
 via
These shelves look like they'd be super easy to build.
Love the industrial cottage vibe.

A pretty dresser in the kitchen is a welcome surprise at Maple and Magnolia.
 via
A big sideboard makes for an excellent kitchen cabinet.
This is kitchen of one of the girls of Vintage White Market.
She added the vintage turquoise cabinet to her kitchen.
Her whole kitchen is an amazing hodgepodge of salvaged items.
It includes a vintage stove and fridge which I love...want...need!
This kitchen is created from antique Indian cabinets placed side by side
with a counter top built over to unify them.
very nifty
Look how great a wood pallet looks on the wall for a dish cabinet!
Again...too rustic for my actual use but I really like the way it looks.

Just shows kitchens can really be anything these days.
I love how bohemian and artistic these kitchens are!

Mod Mix Monday #129

Granny Chic
This is all old stuff but painted and put together in a fun way.
It's definitely granny chic.

Last week's Mod Mix Monday was full of good stuff...
I'm going to just let photos speak for themselves cause I've got stuff to do today.

I'll be back later today with my Thanksgiving table complete with accessories made
from supplies provided by Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts.

But for now....

Mod Mix Monday #128

File This!
I never dreamt a gray filing cabinet could look so chic.
Now I want one by my bed, on wheels too.
Everything in this photo is so salvage junk chic!

Lots of good things in last week's Mod Mix Monday.
Here are my favorites...
Connie at Hill House Homestead made herself a fall wreath out of an old rake.
Love it!
Kim of Living Vintage revealed her new vintage master bath.
Isn't that piece of furniture perfect for a vanity?
I love the exposed conduit too between the electrical plug-ins.
I also love the mirror she used and how she hung it half over the beadboard.
Lianne of Hanbury House is busy taking her 1940's home back to it's retro splendor.
See that bath above? Looks original, doesn't it?
It's not. Her house had some unfortunate renovations in the past and she is taking it back to it's roots.
I love how this tile looks like it's from decades ago. The whole bath is spot on!
Melinda of The Refeathered Roost set up an early Thanksgiving table outside.
Oh..it's the perfect setting for a fall meal. I hope the weather holds so she can actually have dinner out there.
Amy of The Blissful Bee wanted an entry area in her small home.
She took a tiny little wall by the door, added some things from around the house and made one.
Crazy thing is...this area looks way bigger now that she has stuff in it.
And it's functional!
Debra of Common Ground showed off her new burlap table runner.
She gathered up her brown transferware and created a fall vignette complete with vintage olive bucket
and pumpkin.

I worked a lot at the store this past weekend like 16 hours.
Everyone is in full holiday mode now.
I love helping people pick out their china, placemats, chargers and napkins for their Thanksgiving tables.

We just got these cheese markers in at Pier 1.
Not quite as pretty as the Pottery Barn ones...but I like it that they actually have real cheese names on them.
They'd look great combined with this wood cutting board also from Pier 1.

Can't wait to see what you are doing this week as everyone gets ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
So many wonderful ideas swirling around in Blogland, aren't there?
More and more every year.
