Indian Summer

Sorry, Mod Mix Monday didn't happen this week. I'll just do it next week.
Too much going on with starting the new job.
Which is going really well.
I'm spending this week just getting to know all the lines of furniture.
Last night when I came home I came around to the back deck and the geraniums, though it is October 22, looked the best they've looked all year.
I couldn't resist taking a few photos.
Silly Sally running around the deck.
My deck needs to be cleaned and refinished so badly.
That's a project for next year!
I've been saying that for several years.
Coleuses went nuts. I think you are suppose to keep them from blooming
but the bees love the blooms so I just let them bloom.
 Harvey and Sally
My wall fountain looked better earlier in the season.
But it's still blooming like crazy.
I was going to replace these geraniums with pansies the other day but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
They are super healthy. So I'll wait till after it's really cold to put out some pansies.

Sweet potato vine shows no signs of slowing down.
One day I'll come out and it will be all dark and withered when it gets cold.
I tried to get some good photos of Franklin but he was busy hunting squirrels.
Here you can see how long his fur has gotten.
He's got a very beautiful coat and it's very very soft.
That's a show worthy stance.

Evening in the Back Yard

Currently, this is my favorite spot at my little cottage.
My back deck. I call it my secret garden.
I shot a few quick photos at twilight last evening.
I added a string of twinkle lights to the inside of my chiminea.
I know it's suppose to have wood burning in it but I'm too scared of fire.
With lights in it...I can enjoy it EVERY night and I HAVE!
Puppies got into the action.
They are blurry though because of the speed I took these
pictures in the evening light.

This is my view as I come in the back gate each day.
Oh...how I will miss all this when the cold hits.
More of that silly Franklin.
One more...little Harvey there in the corner.

I'll take some photos during the day when the light is better and share
but I wanted you to see my glowing chiminea.

And....guess what?
Mom helped me get the giant cement pot out of the back of my SUV
and we bought stuff to fill it.

I'll plant it and share soon.

I'm very glad it's out. I feared I'd have a wreck with it in there and be killed
by a giant pot riding around in my car.

Good to know I won't be killed by a giant pot.
That would be a terrible way to go.

Don't forget to enter my pillow give away!

Outdoor Decor

Mod Mix Monday continued...

Lots of good ideas in that photo.
A simple bench piled with pillows becomes a great space to hang out on the patio.
Crates full of herbs....burlap sacks covering pots.
Lights and birdhouses.

I'm enjoying this summer so much!
The weather has been so fabulous!
We were in the 80's last week and in the 90's this week.
Perfect summer weather.
Last year we had like two months in a row of temps over 100.
So this cooler summer with lots of rain is really a treat.
Which makes me enjoy being outside all the more.

This time of year also brings sales on outdoor furniture in stores.
Which I really love...I'm no where near tired of decorating outside.
And from the link ups last week to Mod Mix Monday...neither are you.

I've been finding good deals on outdoor stuff to add to my outdoor living area.
I'll show soon.

But for now...here are my favorite outdoor projects from last week's
Mod Mix Monday.

This week's party is still going on..link up here.
Laurel of The North End Loft shared her cute little potting bench.
Look at this cute little garden banner she made to decorate the bench!
Laura of Cottage and Broome showed off her amazing backyard.
The focus of her post...her wonderful vintage chaise lounge which she painted and accessorized.
Sweet!
The Scribbler from Scribbler Unfocused has been busy painting all her wicker furniture in
bright pastel colors this year. The pink victorian rocker is her latest transformation.
Her garden room is such a pretty happy place.
Heather of Friendship, Life and Style had a summer tea.
Oh...My! I love that china!
What a pretty table she set.

Crepe Myrtles

I have two large crepe myrtles in my backyard that I never trim back except for
the lower branches when they bow down to touch the ground.
They both have gotten quite tall. I'd guess they are over 20 feet tall.
I love the bright pink color that they fill my backyard with in the summer.
Old wisteria vines weave through the tops of the tree.
I need to get up on a ladder and pull them out.
I just love crepe myrtles...don't you?
So easy to care for too.
This year I planted impatiens in my fountain in the same shade of pink.
Franklin likes the pink crepe myrtles.
They match in color his very pink tongue!

Thanks to all of you who commented and wrote to tell me that you were viewing my blog
just fine.

That's a relief!

Also many of you wrote asking where I got my outdoor remote controlled led candles
that I used in my birdcage.
I got them at Pier 1, of course!
They are 20% off this month.
That's them glowing in the birdcage.

Also....I tried to write many of you back and you are now coming up as
No Reply. I bet you don't know that.

I discovered recently after I switched my profile to Google + that I was
coming up as a no reply when I commented on other's blogs.

You'll have to go into your Google + profile and be sure to add your email and
make sure it shows up when you leave a comment.

I hope you have a perfect weekend!

August Yard of the Month

in Edgemere Park
This is my neighbor Stan's house and yard.
I'll be back tomorrow with an inside tour.
The yard of this home was pretty much a blank canvas when Stan and his wife Terry moved in.
This is how the landscape was before they purchased the home.
This was it a couple of years ago.
Stan has done all this by himself.
I love these large urns flanking the porch and filled with sweet potato vines and white mandevilla.
An old dry sink on the porch makes it feel homey.
A glimpse of the side front porch.
A bench on the side porch.
The only thing in this front bed that existed before Stan got his green thumb in action was the crab apple tree.
Such a variety of plantings.
Their backyard is very similar to mine layout wise but they've turned it
into a tropical retreat. Stan added the deck to the back of the house.
I really like the posts he used for the pergola.
This backyard had nothing in it but patches of sad grass when Stan started all this.
A flag stone patio in the center of the backyard provides a cool spot in the shade of the trees.
Various art objects and water features dot the landscape.
A back gate leads to their neighbor's yard behind them.
Stan painted the other side of this gate orange because he knew his neighbor behind him loves orange.
He knew she'd enjoy looking at an orange gate every day.
Isn't that nice? I wish I lived behind Stan and Terry.
They have quite a few banana trees that they over winter in their basement every year.
Here is the most ingenious part of this yard makeover and so easily copied.
A magnificent gate and fence separates the backyard from the driveway in front of the garage.
Many of us have this driveway layout in the neighborhood.
It's usually a dead space for most of the homes.
But Stan extends the garden with large potted plants along the perimeter of the driveway.
Turning the boring back drive into another patio complete with table and chairs.
Triangle canvas awnings overhead provide shade.
Masses of potted plants provides a pretty backdrop for this make-do patio and hides
the heat and air unit. Yes, I must do this.
This is the view looking from the yard through the gate onto the driveway.
Those large doors are the opening to the garage.
The yard side of the garage sports another deck with a canvas awning overhead.
This area includes a bar for outdoor beverages.
A view from the outdoor bar towards the back gated fence.
I have seen this yard in several stages.
Stan just keeps adding things one project at a time.

I have to say that most of the time I'm super happy that I'm single.
But after seeing how handy Stan is at building and making stuff, I have to say I did
wish for my own handi-crafty man.
My fantasy is a man outside in his workshop making stuff all the time.

Of course I'd want it all built to my specifications.

Tomorrow I'll have the inside of the home for the latest installment of
Open House Sunday.

Happy Saturday!
