Keith's Garden

 Today, as promised a tour of my co-worker and friend Keith's wonderful garden including his 

new pea gravel patio.

His house is a sweet little tudor in one of OKC's Historic neighborhoods.

 He freely admits that he neglects his front yard because for him it's so much more fun to make 

the backyard beautiful. 

He has intention to do something more to the front but it has not been a priority.

His front flower bed is full of cactus...which is very low care.

That's a banana tree to the side of the front patio.

 Keith says he ignores his front yard but the front porch includes this amazing planter.

I think it all looks very nice...perhaps not as fully realized as the back...but still beautiful.

 Now, we step out his back door and one of the first pots is planted in hostas.

I am so doing this! I have not had much luck with hostas in the ground but a potted one...

I bet I can handle.

 

There are many planters here and there around the backyard.

 

 This photo came out blurry but it was a nice composition so I included.

 His yard includes a large variety of types of planters and many kinds of plants.

 

 In the center of the yard is the new round pea gravel patio. 

A flagstone path beyond leads to the furthest part of the yard.

 Bits of glass art dot the landscape.

 This gravel patio was created by spraying the yard with round up and then putting

down black landscape cloth. Then a few inches of pea gravel are shoveled on top.

The pergola was added onto the house by Keith.

 The back corner of the yard is watched over by this Buddha.

 A happy fellow.

 This rusty rooster is big. He stands about four feet tall.

 Here we have a few succulents in a planter.

 This is a giant panda. Keith found it at a Restaurant supply place.

He came from an old Chinese restaurant. He's big - like 5 feet tall.

He hides among the smoke bush.

 This yard his so full of plants! This is the far corner of the back of the house.

 A bubbly fountain sits right outside the dining room window.

I hope you enjoyed the tour of Keith's yard. 

I'm kind of amazed by all the plants in it. He just keeps adding and adding to it.

October Yard of the Month

October's Yard of the Month in Edgemere Park is this cute little tudor.

This yard is at an advantage because it's owner owns his own landscaping company.

But the amazing part is that usually someone in the business puts his own house last but this is not the case here.

Much has been done to this yard. 

This is how the home looked before they did the yard renovation.

 A large variety of plants sprinkled through out. 

And they don't have a sprinkler system so each night it must all be watered.

A process that takes 45 minutes.

 Here you can get a view of everything filling the bed.

 I love the pops of red from the coleus.

This is the backyard which is still a work in progess. 

 Here flagstone was set vertical rather than horizontal.

That's a lot of vegetation...isn't it?

Oh how I hope someday I can have him come to my house and do some work in my backyard.

I wouldn't want this look necessarily.

I'm happy with my little cottage backyard it just needs a little help.

In news with me. I accepted a position at Thomasville/Drexel Heritage in Sales & Design.

I start either Friday or early next week.

I'm hoping this job will be a much better fit for me than the last.

When I took the other job last spring my hesitation was that I didn't really like their furniture

I didn't think much of it was anything I'd want in my own home.

I showed my favorite pieces here but the customers that came in the store were not into 

that sort of furniture.

The Thomasville Drexel Heritage stor is much higher end.

I will probably never ever be able to afford anything in that store but that is ok

cause I don't need furniture but I'd love to help others pick out furniture for their own homes

and this place has really gorgeous stuff.

I'll share some photos of what they have soon.

Yard of the Month - September 2014

 This home is Yard of the Month for Edgemere Park in Oklahoma City for the month of September.

I personally have wanted this home to get yard of the month for several years.

The yard is always gorgeous, month after month. 

The design of this home is somewhat similar to my own.

 I love love love that big window. I so wish my own home had a window like this. 

 This house has lovely faux iron balconies....all dressed up with window boxes

full of caladiums and impatiens.

 The home owner had just put out some decorative pumpkins.

 I know this photo is blurry...sorry about that. I was losing the light. I did these in the evening.

I love this big tree in front with variegated ivy growing up the trunk.

They keep it trimmed back so that it doesn't take the tree over. 

Here's looking up through the limbs of that big tree.

This tree was planted by the home owner thirty years ago. 

The weather here is just spectacular this week....days in the 80's.

Truly lovely fall days.
