This Old House

1933 Spanish Revival
The mother of all home improvement shows, This Old House starts a new season
and a new old house on Januray 27.
I'm very excited about this one. The house is a 1933 Spanish Revival in the
Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

The reason why I'm so interested is that inside this house although spanish in style has similar details to
homes in my neighborhood. This home is 1,500 square feet to which they are adding an additional 750
square feet. The addition will be a two story one on the back of the home creating a bigger kitchen,
two more bedrooms and two more bathrooms.

Here's a preview of the project -

You can go to the This Old House website to watch a webcam of the home project.
web cams updated every 10 seconds
They are ripping out the kitchen...which I think is adorable although small of course.
There is a vintage tile bathroom that I think they are keeping. At least I hope so.
Every This Old House project turns out beautiful so I'm sure this one will too.
I'd love to add a two story addition to the back of my home.
It could never be done like this one is being done.
Because of historic guidelines (rules) you can't build an addition that can be seen from
the front your home. It must fall within the roof line of the existing structure.
Which is possible since the homes in my neighborhood have such steep roofs.
But I see on this home the addition will stick up above the existing roof line.

Anyway...I'll be tuning in on Saturday. I can't wait to see how they transform this home.
I hope they don't strip away it's character.

I'm all excited about the green bathroom fixtures and tile.

I'm still having a CSN Stores Gift Certificate Giveaway.

Hi Nita Sweetie...
Thanks for sharing this one. I will SO enjoy watching the renovation. I love seeing first hand how these makeovers are done. Love the web cam.

Can't wait for ideas as well. We are always looking for new ideas on how to improve. We are considering taking our bedroom and 1 of the other back bedrooms and converting them into 1 big bedroom for us. We keep watching.

Hope you have a glorious Monday sweetie. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

"This Old House" is usually pretty good about maintaining the integrity of the home! This will certainly be a 'must watch' show!

I can't watch, it hurts to much. You tell me how it goes. Thankfully you have the guidelines in your area. Silverlake is in hills so I'm wondering how many people lost there views because of the second story. We have law suits here all the time here. I will be following.

That is a lovely house but I have to be honest, I get kind of sad that people feel the need to make their homes soooo huge these days! Thank you for the heads up on the new episode, my husband loves that show:)

Oh my goodness, I want to watch this one. Thanks for the heads up!
Something calls to me about Spanish Revival... my husband doesn't get it but I walk by a house like this and it says romance to me and I want to build a courtyard filled with dreamy flowers upon entry to the front door.
I'm off to program my TiVo ~ thanks!!
