More Potting Benches

Oh...it truly feels like spring here now.
We had our first round of tornadoes Wednesday night.
The city of Moore, Oklahoma got hit, yet again.
I don't know why anyone lives there.
It's so risky!
I know for many it's just their home town and they aren't going to leave it.
I get that...but if it's not your home town...why would you move there?
It's the capitol of tornadoes.
But I digress....it really is spring now with all those storms about and I'm
still thinking about potting benches.
I love that blue one above. It's a great color.

 via
This one made of an old window and an old sewing machine stand is truly different and pretty.
This one is made of pallets and crates and painted green....pretty cute...yes?
 via
This one is old and rustic - love the addition of the mirror.
 via
Just a perfect table makes this one.
This one looks professionally made.
It's pretty but lacks the charm of those that are made of odds and ends.
This is actually a sink/potting bench. It's got lots of charm!

Thanks to all of you that wrote telling me how happy you were that
my Mom adopted Daisy.
I loved all your stories about your own adoption of old dogs.

I saw photos of her the other day where she was in the bed next to Marcus.
I forgot to get them off Mom's phone but I'll get them and share.

How is your spring starting off -
cold and snowy or warm and stormy?

Potting Benches

It's Spring and time for Potting!
 via
The first day of Spring and I start thinking about planting outside.
Every year I think I'll have a potting bench.
I've bought two different pieces of furniture to make into one but...
the first one my Mom liked...so I gave it to her.
The second one I decided to use inside.
So I'm still looking for a potting bench.
Isn't that one above amazing?
This one all in white is very fresh.
via
All the green looks pretty sitting on the white bench.
And then sometimes weathered wood is just right.
I'm sure it's all the pink flowers in this one that speaks to me.

simple and just right

Since every time I find an old piece of furniture to use as a potting bench it ends up inside,
I might just break down and buy one of these off Ebay.
There are lots of options on there and most have free shipping.

I'm leaning toward that one above. It's under $100 and can be folded up when not in use.
Easy to store! That's a plus.

Most of these are under $100 and none no more than $150.

Spend more and you get bigger and more elaborate.

So perhaps this year will be the year I'll have my potting bench.
A friend asked if I plant a lot and I said in the spring and fall.
"Will you use the bench?", he asked.
Truthfully, probably not. I usually do all my potting sitting on a stool in the backyard
where when I spill stuff like dirt...it does not matter.
It's easy to clean up when potting in the grass.
But I still do want the potting bench...cause they are just so quaint and really add to
the gardening atmosphere.

Mod Mix Monday - Garden Edition

Mixing It Up on the Patio
I found this pretty patio at HomeGoods.com
A shopper loaded a photo of their own patio that included HomeGoods finds.
I'm guessing those aqua garden came from there.
HomeGoods is finally coming to Oklahoma this fall in Norman.
I can not wait!

So, there was so much good stuff last week in Mod Mix Monday that I'm sharing here on
Tuesday all the projects that were garden related.
Christine of Little Brags shared this potting bench that was given to her by a friend.
The friend had it sitting around their garage and not using it.
Well, Christine has put it too good use!
Fabiana of Ciao! Newport Beach gave us a tour of a secret garden
after becoming friendly with it's owner.
I can see why glimpses like these made her want to go in and see more!
Andrea of Opulent Cottage showed off her third potting bench.
That's right...she has three. This one came from a neighbor anxious to be rid of it.
What a lucky girl! It's the perfect addition to her little summer sitting spot in her garden.

I love seeing everyone's yards, don't you?
I should have a little outside project to share tomorrow.
Stay tuned.

Keep linking up your projects at yesterday's Mod Mix Monday post.

Potting Benches Revisited

Potting Benches....I collect them!
Not in my garden but on my Pinterest Board titled....Potting Benches.
I can't get enough of them.
Each one made up of different materials.
And each with it's own personality.
Love this with the mirrored window and candle sconces to either side.
I think old pieces of furniture make better potting benches than tables made to be specifically that.
Really, almost any piece of furniture can become one.
Even an old wall shelving unit.
Doesn't hurt that it's full of wonderful things.

More rain here today and more tornado watches although none here in the city.
Days of rain...which I don't mind...I like it just don't like the tornadoes that come with it sometimes.

I've been busy working on some projects and I tried to take photos for a tutorial yesterday
but it's too cloudy for me to get good shots.

But they will be coming soon.

Several projects....
Like my ottoman...
my new lamp....
a special little decorative item...
a DIY sponsored by Jo-Ann's Fabrics too.

Oh...yeah...and my own potting bench.
I don't have it quite done and truthfully, I don't want to put it outside until the
weather here settles a bit.

I know eventually it's going to have to live outside year round but
I'd like to make it through the storm season this year.

Garden Rooms

The Green Room
Oh...to have a lovely garden room such as this!
It's overgrown on the inside as well as on the outside.
This one too...but in a less formal way.
The outside just comes right on in through the doors.
This would be the perfect art studio...which I need.
This one is actually an outside room constructed of old windows and doors.
A magical spot in the garden.
Yes, I have garden rooms on the brain. I'd love to have this greenhouse in my backyard.
Won't be long till I'll be pre-occupied with getting the yard in shape.
I do have my own little garden room of sorts...the breakfast nook which has a door leading out
to the deck.
This spring, I'll be painting my "to be" potting bench.
This is the spot where it will sit - right outside my backdoor.
The backdoor that needs to be replaced.
See the sliding door?...Soon to be replaced with french doors in the same color as the windows.
My deck is not very nice. But it looks good when covered in plants.
When my deck looks like this...it is a joy to be in the breakfast nook and go in and out to the deck.
But here is my ugly secret....
Since I didn't have time to paint that hutch last summer,
I didn't want to leave it outside where the elements would ruin it without a coat or several
coats of paint.

So it has sat in my breakfast nook all fall and winter waiting for me to paint it.
So I haven't been able to show a long shot of my dining room or living room looking that direction...
because there is a big piece of furniture and various other projects in the way.
I haven't been able to do a shot like this in months...because through the doorway from
dining room to breakfast nook...it's a pile of junk.
Not junk...just projects.
I also have an artist easel in there where I am working on paintings.
I would have moved that hutch to the garage but it is way heavy...way way way heavy.
I got it in the house and I'm not moving it any more than I have to.
It's going to be hard for me to move it around just to paint it.
So...my only garden room in the house...is full up with furniture and junk waiting for me to tackle it.
And the walls still need to be fixed and repainted.
And that is why I have to keep showing shots of my dining room like this....so that
you don't see what is just beyond the doorway.

But now that you know this...perhaps it will get me moving on painting that piece.

At least I hope so....
Don't hate me because I'm messy and a procrastinator....
Better done eventually than never done at all.
That is my motto.

Let's Cool Off

Of course it's beastly hot here. Oh it's been hotter...so I'm counting my blessings.
Only 101 today.
I'm working on my hutch turned potting bench...painting it.
Hope to reveal next week.
I thought I'd post photos today of pretty cooling fountains.
I don't have a fountain in my backyard but so wish I did.
My friend Petra called me Saturday and said she now has a pool in her backyard.
I posted about her yard here.
This is Petra's pretty little backyard.
I feared that the pool would take over.
But it's placed out of range of this photo...to the very back of the yard.
It's a large blow up pool.
I had to immediately go over and see.
She said they were on sale for $39.99 at Ace Hardware and that she and two neighbors
each got one.
I guess the heat has gone to their heads!
On Sunday she was in and out of it all day pretending she was on vacation.
She had drinks and music and was having a very good time all by herself.

It was like she was at a redneck resort.

The things us single middle aged women do to entertain ourselves!
At least we don't need any approval to do such silly things.
She warned me she didn't think it a good idea for me to get one with all my dogs.
No worries...I wasn't tempted.
It looks like this - sans kids.
Crazy! Good thing she got it after she was awarded yard of the month.
I teased that we were going to revoke her award.
Anyway...back to my potting bench...
which looks like this...now.
but will look something like this when done.
The walls of my house are even the color of the walls in the photo.
And since my potting bench will sit against the walls of my house...I think this will be nice.
I had been thinking of painting it this shade of blue green but when I found this image...
I knew for sure.

Back to fountains...
All that green coolness surrounding
I did have a wall fountain but filled it with plants last year.
It was doing beautifully but is struggling now in the heat.
This is a bit of it here.
The creeping jenny is now growing way down the sides.
But the flowers are not so pretty.
They'll come back though when this heat subsides.
I'd love to feel the splash of this water.
I bet the dogs would too.
although....
A few years ago I bought the weenies a mister thinking they would enjoy the
fine mist cooling their little bodies.
Nope...they hated it.
They blinked their little eyes against the mist and ran inside.
They wanted nothing to do with it.
silly dogs
I love the look of this formal garden.
Ok, back to painting for me.

I hope you are staying cool.
Do you know anyone with a redneck resort in their backyard?
