Romantic Decor

No One Does It Better
Rachel Ashwell, of course.
The Queen of Shabby Chic Style

The above photo came from the latest issue of Cottage Style (spring/summer 2012)
This one too.
She's using more color these days.
But you can't beat her more typical palette of white, pink, grey and a little turquoise.
This bedroom is like sleeping in a cloud.
billowy pink curtains
luscious
shabby chic sheets
pretty bed...perfect for Valentines

So the other night I'm working guest services at Target and a lady returns a set of queen
simply shabby chic sheets. She hands them to me and says,
"I want to return these."
They have obviously been washed and are wadded up and stuffed in a sack.
I asked if there was anything wrong with them.
She said, "Yes, look at them! They are so wrinkled!"
I smiled and said..."Well, I think that is the whole idea."
"The shabby chic experience. They are suppose to be rumpled."
She said back, "Well, if that is how they are suppose to be...I want no part of that experience."
So she went off to find some polyester sheets to exchange them for.

Well, I couldn't stand to see these perfectly good sheets go to waste.
So I snatched them up at the repackaged price of $35.

The girl who rang me up thought it weird I was buying slightly used sheets.
I didn't think it weird but frugal.

Would you have bought them?
They were the grey ones with embroidered edges.

Everyone is asking for a Franklin update.
Things are going fabulously.
Harvey finally warmed to him although he doesn't love him like he did Newman.
Franklin adores Sally and follows her everywhere and pesters her non stop.
All three of them play together.

Franklin is at the window when I come home each day.
That is so nice to be greeted by him.

He likes to steal things. He stole my nightgown while I was  taking a shower the other morning
and took it into the backyard.
He is not destructive...he just likes to grab things and run off with them.

He learned to eat off a spoon like a little baby very quickly.
Only took one time of watching the others to learn how to do it.

He kept trying to steal everyone else's bites of food until I started saying out loud...

"This one's for Violet"
"This one for Sally"
"This one for Harvey"
"Now, THIS one's for Franklin"

Now he is understanding that each gets their turn when I say each one's name.

I'll have new photos of him soon, I promise.

Love shabby chic. You got a great deal on those sheets.

Think of how many times someone may try on clothes before you purchase them. You got a good deal. You're going to wash them anyway.

Thanks for the update on the weenies. One of my doxies liked to take things too. The first night we had her home she tore through our house with my sister's pantyhose trailing behind her. She's at the Rainbow Bridge now but it sure brings a smile to my face to remember how funny it looked.

Girl I was thinking I hope she bought them at a discount..lol! I LOVE my Rachel sheets so much that I wash them and put them right back on my bed!! I have tons of older RA items too ..when I lived in Florida the Targets sent all sorts of brand new items to our local Goodwill!!! There was always RA stuff!!! Funny how we love the same look that people think is wrong!!
Love the peek at the magazine..I must go out and look for it today. So many magazines are dying out and I want to make sure no more do!
Franklin sounds like a nester..dragging stuff off. I am so happy for you and that he has a warm place in your life and in your heart!
((I thought I was one of the only fur mamas that fed my babies with a spoon..they love yogurt and peanut butter that way.))
Have a great weekend..:)

Girl I wouldn't have even explained the experience to her..I'd have taken them back and immediately bought them. Here's to more people bringing back their Rachel prizes so you can take them home. :)

Nita!! I just bought the grey embroidered sheets this week! I want to see if I can use them for something other than sheets~like big ruffled pillows on my sofa. How weird is that? We both bought the same sheets at the same time. I love how the embroidered edge is so well done~I took lots of pics and will share that someday next week. Hey~the blue hydrangea duvet that I LOVE and have on my bed was on clearance in my Target~what a deal! I love that fabric. Glad to hear Franklin is a smart boy. I love your dog stories.

Oh, I think I wil splurge and get that magazine. Love the pictures.
Yes, I wold have bought the sheets. All they need is washed and they will be new.
So funny your explanation to her.
Love your weenies stories. Can't believe he took your nightgown outside. My friends' puppy (99 % wolf does stuff like that alot......the phone the other day.)Poor puppy got hurt over CHristmas had had to have a leg amputated....isn't that sad. But it has slowed him down some. I think my friends were a bit worried they couldn't handle him before.
It is so much fun seeing how dogs and cats interact. Last night my Springer was licking the cats ear. Usually he chases her under the bed.

the sheets were a great frugal buy! I would have done the same. When I worked at Kohls, we got the craziest returns. We even had someone return tires (we didn't have an automotive department, but they insisted, and we had a total "customer is always right" policy that meant we couldn't say no). It was totally hilarious. the flower arrangements in the photos are gorgeous, especially the first. ahhhhh fresh flowers...

If you didn't buy them then, they would have gone back on the shelf and someone else would be the lucky owner. You did good. I give my pups treats off my plate with a fork. They gingerly remove the food from the prongs with their front teeth then chew it right up.
They love spaghetti too! I'll hold one end of the noodle and they'll gobble away at the other end. Maybe I've said too much...

I have those same gray sheets, as well as the white ones. I love how rumpled they are when I take them out of the dryer, and they have become my favorite sheets. The embroidered edge on the pillow slips and top sheet is very nicely done, too. I think they're a bargain at full price, so getting them at a deep discount is exciting! I'd be jealous, except I have a CA king bed, so it's okay.

Just bought my Cottage Style magazine last week. It's a good one.
Of course, I would have bought the sheets too. Too bad it wasn't one of those cases where it was no longer in stock and you could have got them even cheaper. I once stood in line behind a lady who could not get her money back b/c item was discontinued. She got mad and left it there at the store!

I would have bought the sheets too! I'm so glad Franklin and the other dogs are getting along so well!

I would have bought the sheets as well. You got a great deal.

You'll be luxuriating in those sheets long after Ms Poly Sheets is tired of her scratchy sheets -- her loss, your gain!
And I'm starting to think the next time I get a kitty, I should get two! (current kitty, Sweet Pea, is over 10 years old and set in her ways so I don't want to disrupt her with a kitten)

Yes, I would have bought those sheets in a New York minute! Crazy lady just has no style.

I have considered maybe getting a part-time job at Target...since I'm there anyway! So YES! I too would have gotten those sheets. I have always loved everything Rachel Ashwell and I have several of her books.
You know how much I love White but lately I'm craving some color too. I will have to get that magazine and see if there's something that I will be inspired by.
So glad to hear how well Franklin is going...eating off a spoon? I should try that, might save my fingers.

I (heart) everything Rachel Ashwell, and would have nabbed those sheets, too. You were in the right spot at the right time! I agree with you, in my mind nothing beats her typical palette. I like the other stuff, too, but but the whites and grays are my faves.

Franklin is a smart little pup to have caught on to the "wait for your turn" thing so quickly! Little sweetie!

I would have bought the sheets. Get the look for less is my motto.
I would give them several good washing in very hot water though. Can't be too carful the days.
thanks for the update on the pups.

I love the pics and the post. My fav is fluffy and white anything!!!

However, that is not really why I am commenting. I LOVE this entire blog. I just pinned your heading to "Blogs I Love" on my Pinterest Board.

I found your blog yesterday. The first post I read was the story of how you found your cottage...then I read about Newman and his last days...last, I read about Harvey and when you got him.

You have a gift. You tell your stories, even when broken hearted, with such a style that I cannot stop reading...like a good book that keeps you up all night when you have to go to work the next day.

I laughed with you and I cried with you while reading these posts. I lost my dad in 1993, my sister in 2008 and my Tina (Malti-Poo) last year. I didn't think I could go on after any of these losses. I did go on, however there are holes. So many things I want to share with each one and I have to believe they are with me and DO share in my life.

I believe your dad and Newman are with you, as well.

I can hardly wait to read more.

God Bless you, Jan

Awe, i so enjoy the Franklin updates:) Had to laugh out loud at the dogs eating off the spoon. I actually feed my spoiled Stinky with a fork, its really funny to watch him grip the food and slide it down the fork. Been doin it since he was little.......I certainly woulda snatched up those sheets. I love all of my target sheets. I pratically covet all of her things. Whereever i can get them, i do.......I have a gorgeous pink cotton/linen duvet and shams. Its like the one in the store , comes in "oatmeal", and a aqua green color, ide never seen it in pink, until visiting a Goodwill while with my bestie Pattie(The Shabby Chick)in Indy..got it for $6 plus tax, and it was BRAND NEW, it still had the cardboard fold marks. My all time best find ever!!!! Enjoy the sheets and snatch that stuff up where ever u can find it!!!..................Bonnie

I would have snagged those sheets in a heart beat!! I have about a yard of that floral pattern fabric you have pictured and every time I get an idea to use it I can't seem to bring myself to cut it. I searched high and low for it, but I think I will make myself two throw pillows out of it. I love the white bedroom picture. That is my ideal, but I'll have to wait until I have no children and no black kitties that love to lay on my bed. Thanks for the share.

I have had the cold from you-know-where the past week, too. It has been a full week today, and I am so much better. I hope you are feeling better today, too!
