Thrift Store Goodness

My Finds Last Week

Well, so I start doing the mantel...and my lights are malfunctioning...I have some special twinkle
lights on sparkly branches and only one works.
Darn it.
I replaced all the bulbs and the fuses and still no luck.

So...as I regroup from that...

Mandi at
asked everyone to show their thrift store finds for the week.

I don't shop Thrift Stores much just because I have a garage full of stuff that needs to go
to a thrift store.

But last week I went with a friend and of course had to drag a couple of things home.
This huge lamp. Love the details.
I haven't even tried to see if it works...it was 1/2 off
so I got it for $4.

I'm thinking I'm going to pull the electrical out of it and paint it white (of course)
and it will just be a big huge finial thingie.
Big enough to set on the floor.

I really don't have a spot for a super huge lamp...but I'm still thinking about it.
What do you think?

I also got the little silver plated stand.
I'm sure I'll find a good use for it and at only $2...I couldn't pass up.
I also got a couple of vintage sliver spoons at $1 each.
But forgot to show them....actually...I wonder where I put them?

As you can see these are sitting on my newly sanded dining room buffet.
It's waiting for paint.

Now I'm off to the 1st of the Month Paseo Artist's Walk.
It's perfect weather for it.
I'll try to take some photos.

Holiday Queen

Do You Know Who This Is?
Isn't she a vision of Christmas loveliness?
Hint: She's provided us all visions of Christmas Perfection for years....
Yes, that's right...it's Martha at age 14!

I don't care what anyone says about her...I love her.
I admire her so.
I even love how she gets curt with her show's guests when they aren't doing something right
and then takes it out of their hands. You go Martha!
Or corrects them when THEY are suppose to be the expert on something.

She has changed how we all decorate for Christmas.
Well for all holidays, really.
She also set the bar pretty high.
So as you slave away over your perfect Christmas decorations, you only have Martha to blame.

Her Christmas special is on Monday night on the Hallmark Channel.
I'll be tuning in, will you?

And now a little Christmas decorating straight from the Holiday Queen herself.
I've adored this one for ages.

I love table top trees.

Of course me showing these images means that I still don't have my mantel up.
I swear I don't want to sand another thing ever again.
What I thought was going to take just another couple of hours has drug on and on.
I'm still going to try to get my mantel up and on here today but
in case it doesn't happen...I still wanted to share something.

Why did I think I could get all that furniture done this week?
Right now, I just want to get to the point that I'm painting instead of preparing to paint.
But my Mom says...a good paint job is all in the prep.

I just keep trudging forward....thinking about all that white furniture I will have soon.
Of course after its done...I'm thinking I'm going to want to repaint the whole room.
But not before Christmas.

A Canadian Christmas

White Christmas

Ok, so I thought I'd be posting my mantel by now.
But I just couldn't bring myself to pull out my glittery trees when I'm in the
middle of sanding my dining room furniture in the dining room.
Plus I don't think it's a good idea to mix dust with glitter.

So I told myself...I'd finish up the sanding part and then I'll decorate my mantel.
And then I'll paint the furniture.
So in the meantime...
enjoy these Christmas visions from
Canadian House & Home
The common denominator here is white.
Which is the color I am painting my dining room furniture
or what color I will paint it once it is all sanded.
Martha Stewart - Popcorn to be exact.
It will look a little like this.
I just have three more chairs to do...
and then I'll vacuum and clean up
and then do the mantel.

I usually don't decorate till mid December but because of the blog...I thought I'd do early
but I'm too much in the middle of my dining room project.

I've heard that more dining room furniture is sold at the holidays than all the rest
of the year put together because everyone wants their dining room pulled together
for guests and family.

I guess I'm no better.

I should have knocked it out last month...but of course I procrastinated...
but the important part is - that I am doing now.
