Dave Lowe Design's Halloween!

Battery Operated Flicker Flame
I've had several people write me and ask about the battery operated candles in my candelabra.
I bought mine last year at Big Lots in the Christmas stuff. They may have them this year too.
I haven't been by there to see. But I did a quick search on the internet and found a site where you
can buy all kinds of battery operated candles.
I think I need a bunch more of these candles myself. I'd like to use them outside for a project.
Or make your own battery operated scary candles by following the tutorial that Dave Lowe has on
his fantastic blog...

This candle was made with a toilet paper roll and hot glue.
Dave has all the instructions on his blog.
I'm definitely going to make some of these.

This is how that candle is going to be used.
His design to be used in this year's Yard Haunt.
Definitely a friendly ghost.

This is another blog I get lost in for hours.

Pumpkin Rot

Halloween Hot Spot
About July, every year...I start thinking about Halloween.
This may seem early to some...but there are those out there that think about Halloween 365 days a year.
One of those people is the guy who writes the blog...
Pumpkin Rot.
I don't know this guy's name....and maybe he's never said it.
I tried to search through his posts tonight to find it and couldn't...he signs his posts....
Rot.
That's it.

I've been reading his blog for a couple of years and always find great Halloween inspiration.
He does a Yard Haunt each year that is over the top amazing.
If you go to Pumpkinrot.com...you'll be led down the pumpkin path to see several year's
of his yard haunts and other people's haunts. I love all the witches, ghosts and skeletons he's created.
Every year he creates a special scarecrow. This was this year's.
I can't tell you how much his creations inspire me to create ghoulish good times at my own home.
His blog is full of everything that inspires him. I can spend hours there.

If you need a little Pumpkin Rot in your own home...you can go to his Etsy store -
and buy little rotten pumpkins for your own home.
Like these...

I think they are a-dor-a-ble!

Be careful if you go there...you may get lost and never come back!

These paintings were done by
These are a few of my favorites of his but he has many others.
You can buy these prints from him in several sizes and also note cards.

The first time I saw his website a few years ago...
I thought...oh this feels exactly like how I remember Halloween feeling when I was a kid.

He also takes commissions and will do a personalized spooky painting of your home
complete with Halloween decor and spooks.
You can request however many spooks you'd like to appear or be hidden within your painting.

He also does a monthly newsletter full of all kinds of Halloween goodness.

Artist of Note

Ray Caesar

I happened upon the art of Ray Caesar one day a couple of years ago when looking up all things Steam Punk. His work is extraordinary; a combination of science fiction, historical fiction, horror, romance novel, super hero and pin ups. With other things thrown in also. If the beauty of his heroines weren't enough...the settings of his paintings are a set decorator's dream.
Mine too.

These are the things dreams are made of...
or nightmares.

1st Day of Spring?

Well, it's the first day of Spring. You would never know to look out my windows. Everything is covered in a thick blanket of snow. Unbelievable. Last weekend....Spring was in the air and this weekend it's like we time traveled back in time two months. It's suppose to be warming up immediately, but this is so strange. So I was all about Easter bunnies and daffodils last week but feel like Spring has been put on hold for a few days at least.

I shot this photo last weekend of a corner in my breakfast nook otherwise known as the Weenie Dog Condo. This is the room the weenies reside in during the day while I'm at work. It's a pretty little room but the floor has three dog beds on it that they rotate out sleeping on...they all like to sleep together in a pile...so I don't know why I have three beds in there...when they only use one at a time. But I want them to have choices.

So above is a photo of one of the corners of the room. The photo on the wall is of my neighborhood park. The lamp base I've had for awhile with various shades...I recently bought this lamp shade on Ebay, thinking the combination of the two would be nice. And it is.

The other side of the wall, I've hung a print by one of my favorite artists. Today I'd like to point you towards his website.

Mark Ryden

Not only is the subject matter of his paintings quite unusual, playful and thought provoking but he's a master with the brush. Being a painter myself....I'm very critical of painting and drawing quality. It's not enough for me that it's a good idea and the colors are wonderful, it better be executed with great skill and Mark Ryden is a master.

Here are a few samples of his work...but be sure to go to www.markryden.com and view more. He's been working on a new series of paintings...can't wait to see what this group of paintings reveals.

I forgot to say that they are beautiful but bizarre...I chose some of the less bizarre to share here.
