Mod Mix Monday #87

Too Much!!! or Not!!!
Here is a room I'd never put together and yet I really like it.
Yes, I'd pick that sofa....no...I wouldn't pick that coffee table.
Yes, to the lamps....no to the rough wood frames.
Did you notice the detailing on the lampshades?....they are all tied up.
Yes, to the turquoise tray...no to the typewriter.
And those pillows in sharp contrast to all the bits of turquoise in the room?
I would not have done either.

Just shows...sometimes you need to add in things that you don't necessarily like all that much
to make it interesting.

I really love this room.

I know I have a tendency to go too feminine...I'm working on that.

(no...not really)

Here is something I really wanted to show you today....
Forgive the bad photo taken with my iphone.

I took my Mom home yesterday or rather I followed her home.
She drove her own car...but I followed to help her carry things and settle in and
I had Marcus in the car with me.
I've fallen in love with that big old Moose of a dog....
Here is his photo in case you've forgotten what he looks like...
Moose Marcus
Anyway...back to my tale...
I took Mom home and this is what sits across the street from her house
in the across the street neighbor's yard.
A goal post sitting facing the street!
Mom had mentioned the neighbor boys were playing basketball to the south of her.
She said her dogs go nuts barking at them as they play ball in the street.
In the street!
Well, I think this is ridiculous! It made me laugh and laugh.
How many times did my Dad say to us kids.
"Now, why don't you kids run outside and play in the street?"
Of course he was joking.
But in this case...this family is literally encouraging their children to
PLAY IN THE STREET!
Granted, it's not a very busy street but still...I think these parents should be reported
for endangering their minors.
I have to say this street is a very quiet one...there were times when I was growing up
that our dog would take a nap in the middle of it.

Cars would drive around her.
Well, one car drove around her once.

we didn't let that happen again

Ah....small town life....

I was glad to be back in the city by nightfall.

Without further ado....here are my favorites from
Mod Mix Monday last week.
Cottage and Broome's sweet little garden cottage under a blanket of snow.
Charming..isn't it?
Miss Kopy Katt made lots of little sweaters for her flower vases.
So cozy. I really love these.
Town and Country Living's pretty foyer.
Her house shows up here time and time again.
Jealous...much?

twelveOeight diy painted this cool chevron rug
An Extraordinary Day decorated a window for Valentine's.
Simple and Sweet
And finally....who could resist this face....I mean table runner.
Debra at Common Ground fluffed her home and added some
accessories that may or may not have included that cat.

Good Stuff...yep...indeed.

So my Mom went home.
We both shed tears.
I told her it was nice having her all to myself...something I had not had
since I was two years old and my sister was born.

Anyway...she's doing great.
I told her she can runaway up to my house any time she wants to.

The house is quiet without her and that loud mouthed Marcus aka Moose.

Recovery

Mom swears the dogs are aiding in her recovery from heart surgery.
She's got a bed full of them most of the time.
These are her two, Daisy and Rosie....they are Violet's full sisters.
When I took these photos the other day, Franklin was outside chasing squirrels.
Harvey was at the end of the bed trying to take a nap.
Sally has been sequestered in my bedroom.
Her and Marcus have issues.
That's Marcus, Harvey's brother.
Those two are the gruesome twosome together.
I call Marcus, Moose. He is a big old Moose.
Rosie is a prima donna. I tell Mom she's not a dachshund, she's a poodle.
You can't help but smile at the lot of these.
See Mom's scar? That was several days ago.
It is so much better now.
She'd kill me if she knew I'd put this out there for the world to see.
Oh...maybe not...she's at the point...where she really doesn't care.
A pretty shot of Violet and Marcus.
Yes, a bed full of them. Marcus doesn't like Franklin very much.
He barks at him constantly. Franklin ignores him.
Franklin pounces on Harvey a lot and that makes Marcus mad.
He loves his little brother Harvey and never ever gets mad or barks at him.
He is his great protector.
That's good. With Marcus around Harvey can rest easy knowing his big brother is
on the job of HIS homeland security.

So, new plumbing is being put in on Wednesday.
Fences will be torn down.
That means I will be walking dogs one at a time on a leash out the front door.
With seven dogs, this should pretty much take up my whole day.
Thank goodness I'm off work that day.

Life is never easy, is it?
I thought...if I could just get through Mom's surgery....everything would settle down.

But then...here we go with more craziness.

Mom and I are talking about hitting the movie theaters soon, though...and seeing all the movies
we've missed.

I have not gotten to see American Horror Story in weeks.
I think I've missed three episodes.
I keep thinking I'll watch On Demand and catch up one night after work but I keep falling asleep
when I sit down to do it.

Maybe tonight...maybe tonight.

Pier 1 is still having it's store wide clearance sale.
I got some good things for next year's Thanksgiving table at a fraction of what they cost originally.

Mom and I are itching to get out and go shopping together.
One day...soon...
We can't wait.

Update on Mom

The Happiest Patient in the World
A quick update on Mom.
Alice
She took a long while to wake up and breath on her own....like 12 hours.
I now know that heart surgery is just not science but an art form.
What a balancing act to keep her alive those first twelve hours.

Yes, the doctor did a great job on her surgery...but the nurses kept her alive.
The nurses made it a success.
I can't imagine the stress of this job...but then there are great rewards too.

So...
She finally awoke at 4am and started breathing on her own.
She woke smiling and wiggling her feet...ready to dance.

Once she was ok'd to talk...she would not shut up.
She was full of joy.
So happy to have made it.
She kept saying she wasn't in any pain.

She ate three times yesterday and was looking forward to
trying all the great food on the menu during her stay.

She kept saying that staying at that hospital,
The Oklahoma Heart Hospital, was like staying in a fine hotel.
You order room service for food off a menu full of heart healthy choices.

I have to say the food was so great....we both think we might have to go there for eating out in the future.

She was up walking three times.

I didn't sleep for over 38 hours so I finally came home and dropped.

I'm going back here in just a little and as long as she is still doing well....
I will then go get her dogs.

The nurses and doctors all said she was doing incredibly well.
They'd never seen such a happy patient.

She was so relieved to be alive.
She was like Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas morning!

She talked all day.
Never slept.
I thought I'd sleep while she rested...but she never rested.

We'll see how she is today.

I hope good. But I expect her to be tired after so much yesterday.

I'm sure it was the drugs that boosted her.

I appreciate so much all your comments and emails and wanted to let you know all is good.

I will post as soon as I can more.

The little dog is still at the vet.

I'll look for lost dog signs today.

I'll do something about him next week.

Anyway...Alice is good.
She's happy.
She's looking forward to being back at all her projects and chores.

And she's looking forward to eating her way through the hospital menu before getting out of there.
She may pretend to be sicker than she is to stay and continue getting treated like a queen.

She is the one always caring for everyone else, so she feels very spoiled having everyone care for her.

I'll be back soon.
I'll try to have an Open House up tomorrow and will if all continues to go well.

I'm looking forward to the New Year.
I feel like I've been just barely getting by in so many ways the last two years.

I'm hoping to focus on me in the new year and getting back to posting projects on this blog.

A service will be held for Shannon next Sunday.
We will all remember how special she was, always.

But today is for the living and so Mom and I are going to live.

See you soon!

Thanks for being there!
