Sunday Open House

Stone Cottage
 built 1935
This little stone cottage is in the Hollywood neighborhood of Dallas, Texas.

Oh...my I love the strip of green grass down the middle of the drive way, don't you?
I love the color of the front door too.
I think the landscaping could be improved but I imagine this is low maintenance.
Very nice front porch...oh look across the street...more cute little cottages!
Reminds me of my own neighborhood. Unfortunately, houses in my neighborhood have been selling
so fast or selling by owner...and I have not been able to show any of late.
A pretty little living room. If this house were mine, I'd paint the front door on the inside too.
If I bought this house, the first thing I'd change would be those cabinets on either side of the fireplace.
They just look like two big boxes. They need to fit the shape of the fireplace better.
These detract from the fireplace.
Of course I love the arched door way.
Nice that the dining room has an arched ceiling just like the living room.
Love that.
Ok, this is kind of a crazy kitchen. The upper cabinets are rather unusual.
I'd say I don't like them but if they were painted white...and had the right knobs on them...
I think they could be pretty great.
Yep...this kitchen would be better in white.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this stove!!! Truly...I wish it were mine.
But it needs a gorgeous hood over it. I don't like cabinets over stoves.
Nice bedroom with door to the outside. I like that.
Adore this bathroom! I love every little thing about it.
That sink! That mirror! The windows! The arch above the tub! The funny little cabinets!
I love it all.
Another bedrom...hmmmm this one has an outside door too!
 Little half bath
kids room...ok...least favorite room for me.
I like those little chairs though.
I'm guessing there is a little apartment attached to this garage. I'd make this my studio.
So wish I had that.
Here we see two back doors! That's interesting.

Good idea for adding a deck out the back if you don't want to remove your back stoop.

Nita,
How absolutely adorable is this little cottage. OMG I want to move there. I loved every room. That bathroom with all the vintage charming touches and the kitchen with all the vintage appliances. Just so sweet. I had to go back through a few times and re look at everything.

Just wanted to tell you that I so look forward to Open House Sunday on your blog. I get my cup of coffee and can't wait to read all of your comments. They are usually what I'm thinking, too. Do love the bathrooms in this house and you are so right, a white kitchen would make all the difference!

Hi Nita! This house reminds me a lot of a house my sister rented when she lived in Dallas. I'll have to check to see if it was in the same neighborhood. I LOVE the bathroom! I saw that fireplace - which looks a lot like mine and thought "great I can get some ideas for mine". . . but alas theirs looks worse than mine! I'm glad I didn't put boxes on the sides of it! FYI. I'm hear now and have mostly finished up my first task - parents house. The baby, well he will have a mind of his own as to when he comes. I'll call you this week.

I actually like this house A LOT!
I agree about those boxes. It appears that they are blocking the windows and I would want to be able to open the windows! I would put little window seats in there or fabric covered benches so that the critters could sit on them and look outside. :)
The kitchen... While I LOVE white kitchens, something about this I like, I really do. I think it's because of the white chairs and appliances but I do like it.
Thanks for this post!
xoxo

Very sweet house. Wouldn't it be cool to incorporate the arch motif on built-ins next to the fireplace? You're right about the kitchen. If it were white, it would be very charming and still have that old house quirkiness.
