The situation in Japan is beyond comprehension.
I lived through a tornado once.
My Grandmother's house which is where we were at the time, lost it's entire roof.
All the house's windows burst out while we huddled in the bathroom.
Our own house lost the garage and part of the roof but several neighbors on my street
lost their entire houses. Many people lost their homes that day in my hometown.
It was terrible but all our loved ones were safe.
We did without electricity and clean water for weeks.
There were months of clean up and reconstruction.
The building I went to junior high in was condemned and we had to have classes the
rest of the year (November through May) in local churches and then in a barn.
(us kids thought that was pretty great)
So I know what it's like to live through a natural disaster but all my family was alive
and we did not have to worry about a nuclear disaster following on the heels of the natural disaster.
My thoughts are with those in Japan who have lost so much (home and family)
and are unsure of what is their future.

So true Nita about a natural disaster coupled with that terrible nuclear threat. Horrid. Beyond imagination. I was unaware of a day of silence in blogland. Thanks for posting this. And how fantastic for you to have your sweet mantel included in Better Homes and Gardens! A dream!

Each night while I exercise on the floor I watch the devastation on the nightly news. Horrifying. I'm so happy your pretties were included. You SO deserved it!

There are no words to adequately express all the sadness for the people of Japan...

I am so happy for you! Your mantle is gorgeous! I lived through a tornado, too and it's terrifying! My prayers are for the people of Japan...my heart goes out to them! ♥

Congrats and what a mantle it is. I too am participating in the bloggers day of silence...it seems like such a small but necessary gesture as a way to show respect and raise awareness to the need that is present there. It is so heart wrenching but we all have to do our part in helping Japan and its people start the vast process of healing and restoration. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

How freakin' cool is that! Your mantel and Better Homes and Gardens! Congrats!

I didn't know about the Bloggers Day of Silence either. I too will have Japan and it's people in my thoughts and prayers.

Congrats on the BH&G mention! Well deserved.

The situation in Japan is just so very sad. I can relate to it, too, since our family fled from New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina. But at least we had WARNING, unlike those in Japan. I think tornadoes scare me worse than hurricanes now that I live in TX. The sound of those sirens at 3am is so haunting.
