Open House Sunday X

Two Houses Today
These houses do not reflect my own taste. I just want to declare that up front.
Two homes, both historic tudors, one high end and one low end....both in so so taste....in my opinion.
House 1 - Low End
built 1928
Love the outside on this one. Very pretty landscaping.
I'm not sure what that is by the door. A huge candle holder, I think?
The side front porch - perfect spot for a dinner alfresco.
But then it starts to go bad.....
Ok, like I said...not my taste.
These sofas look as if a sultan would live here.
Nice original tile fireplace though.
Kitchen is nice but not what I would have done in a historic home.
I'm guessing that iron gate secures the entrance to the basement. But that is just a guess.
The colors are so dark in this home. Quite atmospheric but not my cup of tea.
I'm not a fan of these type of vanities in a historic home. They just look out of place.
A sunken tub?

House 2 - High End...but still not so good....
built 1931
It starts out nice enough.
Nice kitchen although not the finishes I would have chosen.
Open spaces...so walls must have come down. This is a large home.
I like the table. Not quite sure what I think of the chandelier.
Ok, I like the bed.
Love the color on the walls. And I like those mirrors..not sure about the vanity.
Love those windows.
This is a great space by the pool.

about the low end one...I was taught "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything"
So...I got nothin'
The second one, I can see that it's an expensive home but except for the pool....I'm not at all envious.

Wow- thanks for sharing Nita. The outside is really charming on the first one and loving the pool house on the second one. :)

I think both are lovely in their own way, the first one with some extra love. xoxo

Not being a fan of the Tudor style myself... I have to completely agree with your assessment... ;)

I just moved into a Tudor style home. Luckily it looks like neither of these on the inside. It can seem pretty dark in here but I have big plans to bring in lots of color & brighten it up! :)

I love coming here and walking thru the open houses each week. Interesting is the nicest thing I could come up with for the decor and style of these two homes. I did like the pool area on the second home...and can honestly say I've never seen a "sunk in" tub like that before..ever!

They both make me a bit 'unwell' but I see their potential at the same time. The first would have to be a complete overhaul but number two would just benefit greatly from less 'stuff' and a few minor replacements (vanity!). Good fixer-uppers!

Sometimes I do not understand what people are thinking when they renovate historical homes.....

Nita, I must say I agree with you in everything! I love the first house, but I din't like the interiors at all! Very dark, indeed! The second is to big and really don't like much of it either, but I don't mind re-decorating them, though! Thanks for sharing, it was fun! Hugs, FABBY

lol that first house sunken tub looks like a disaster waiting to happen and its so near the toilet. you could fall in the tub in the middle of the night. poor taste in both houses I love the outside esp #2. I think they believe they have excellent taste...NOT

Both homes have nice curb appeal however I was not feeling the interiors on either...so funny your sultan comment about the sofas:) Ditto the shiny satin sheets, yuck! Its so dark and dreary, it needs a few gallons of fresh creamy paint.....the interiors on the second also are not very impressive though the pool is quite nice. Intersting to see peoples interprepation on decor!

I vote for House #2....nice home... except all the light fixtures need to be changed out and the fireplace in the bedroom looks out of place with a 60s looking stonework and a traditional wood surround/mantle, this doesn't work. Otherwise most wall colors are nice and neutral, nice flooring, french doors, especially like the blue bath with the tilework and tub wall of windows, also like the wood and stone outside seating area. The rest of the personal decorating throughout the home is all a little overwhelming.

I think they both need to hire some home bloggers to come in there and do those houses justice. The first one has the right idea outside. Must hire that part out.

"Less is More" comes to mind...but not something either home-owners (their Stagers or Realtors) seems to have heard of.

Since I am in the middle of doing my daughters room of course the little girls room caught my eye, and it was a great reminder of what I am trying to avoid doing.

Wow did I show my claws today??

On a positive note, once the bad furnishings get removed and you slap up some paint, both houses could be as cute inside as they are outside.

Lots of potential in both houses just way too dark for my taste. I can imagine changing that dark exterior paint trim for creamy white. It would really make the lines of the house pop.

and i agree with a lot of your comments...

I liked the bathrooms in number two.

I didn't like the first house but I did like the second house. I would love to go in there and do a little painting and rearranging and editing. I think it could be incredible! Fun looking through them!

I think both houses have great potential, you just have to look past the colors and furnishings. I'd love to take a shot at either one. You'd be amazed at what can be accomplished with a couple of gallons of paint and some elbow grease!

I could do a lot with the first house, first of all ripping out that sunken tub before I fell in it! Has potential.
Don't like the second one at all.

Pluses and minuses in each, but I sure wouldn't mind that pool right now!

I care for the first one at all, but I love the second one. I could live with all of that wood, beautiful!
