in Periwinkle
I finally painted my little table in the living room.
I asked here what color to paint it...white or periwinkle.
The majority said periwinkle.
Here it is. It's a little lighter in shade than the front door. But perhaps it should go lighter still.
It looked like this before. A mishmash of paint colors.
This was it with primer only. This is what made me decide it should not be white.
I'm not sure. I love the way the color makes the shape of the table stand out.
Not sure how this is going to look when I decorate for Halloween and Christmas.
Perhaps I should tone down the color a little.
It's not styled correctly. I guess I'l just have to live with it for a bit.
Funny how if I question something before I do it...it usually turns out not making me happy.
When if I am sure that something is going to look great...it always does look great.
Just paint...right? Anybody got any suggestions?
Also, I'm not in love with this table sitting in this spot.
It is there because I have nothing else to put there.
This is a real problem area in the room.
It's right by the front door and that spot screams for an entry table of some sort...
but having an entry table there makes it tight to walk between it and the chair.
I have seen a cabinet that I'd like to have in this spot that is only 11 inches deep
and I think it would be the perfect solution.
But no funds to purchase the cabinet. So this sits in this spot and it does not make me happy.

Nita, that periwinkle is kinda sexy especially with that lady over it. I might would put something more sparkly there instead of the globe but you my dear know what feels right for you. hugs♥Olive
Look at how the periwinkle table pulls out the color of the lady's feather boa (or is that her collar?). I didn't notice that color in the print so much when the table was white. I think a lace doily would look great on the table, hanging over the edges a bit ... but that's just me. :)
That color is cute!
so very brave with color...I love it!
Amazing how it brings out the colors in the print above it!
Love the table and the colour, don't understand why the chair is there though.

Nita it looks great!
I LOVE IT especially with the painting above..........LOVE LOVE LOVE the door!!!!!!! At Christmas and Halloween just put a cloth on it for the holidays.....I LOVE IT!
Well.....
I think I had said to paint the table white, and obviously I was WRONG!
I love it that color.
But I don't really like the globe on there, it just doesn't jibe with your other stuff.
Sorry but this post gives me some comfort in the fact that I am NOT the ONLY one that frets over the furniture. I do think it looks nice there, especially with that painting. If you had something higher, you would have to probably move the paintng and it's perfect.
But what do I know? I move my stuff monthly! :(

When it comes to decorating I guess we always question ourselves.
But your table looks perfect where it's located and the color is great.

The table looks great painted periwinkle, and it really ties into the picture above it. Love it--it's such a fun look. Sometimes I think we play it too safe when we decorate.
Hi Nita! The color is lovely! I don't think you need to worry at all about the Halloween decorations. You can always put a nice black lacy spidery webby thing over it and as far as Christmas...I've seen some of your decorations on previous posts and this will be just beautiful! The color brings out the colors in the print you have above it! It reminds me of hydrangea! Keep it lady! No worries!

Girl you got a lot of bang with that paint color, WOW! Looks fantastic with the art! Not sure about the chair either lol could it go on the left side of the table if it has to stay? but the table MUST be allowed to shine my dear, it's totally gorgeous!
I happen to love the deep color and I wouldn't lighten it. I think it balances your other colors really well. It has personality and I really like that! Decorating is never done for some of us, is it? :)
OK so I have been wandering through your beautiful blog....love it so much!!!
I was looking at the post of your living room, have you tried putting the white desk where the gorgeous periwinkle table is? You could either put the chair at the desk or use it for seating in your room. Just an idea...then put the table where the desk was?
Whatever you do, keep the table I love it!!
Okay. This is what I think: I like everything about it. Everyone needs a table in their entryway. What I don't like is the proximity to the chair. Can you move the chair?
I like the color of the chair against the wall and underneath the print. I would not change it. As far as decorating for the holidays, I think orange would look great on it, and so would green.
*steps off soapbox*
I think it's perfect!
I'm going off in a different direction than your typical look. How about an overcoat of black, then sand it down so the periwinkle shows through at the edges. Wood tone or red are the expected undercolor with most black overcoats -- the periwinkle would be so unexpected and so you!
Now, as to the globe -- if you glitter the whole thing with Art Glitter forget-me-not, it will Nita-ize it and have the palest of periwinkle glow to it.
And as for Halloween, purple is the newest accent color and at Christmas, imagine a snowflake theme on your (black &) periwinkle table.
Nita, I love it! It looks perfect in that spot, and I think it is styled very strikingly. The color is awesome, you are so right to have painted it that beautiful shade!
Best,
Kimberly
I think Sharons idea is good. The table in the periwinkle colour is cute but it looks a little "flat". Would you consider painting it gold? I think it would look brilliant in gold. I love your blog by the way!
I think you should try the chair to the left of the table. Just have the big pink chair with the white table opposite the sofa, and the wall opposite the fireplace can have the hall table with the wooden chair. I looked all through your blog trying to see your living room floor plan and finally found a pic from when you first bought the house and that is where I saw the biggest picture of the wall that the purple table is against. It would be fun to try it. Then you can add periwinkle pillows to the chair!
I think its a beautiful color! You've inspired me to find a place for periwinkle in our home. I could see it going very well with the blacks and oranges of Halloween decorations. And for Christmas, would look nice with pearl, glittered white or glittered light pink decorations.

Hey Nita! :)
I personally love that you ventured outside your comfort zone to try this colorway. I will agree with you however....I would prefer the cabinet idea. Maybe live with this table through summer and in the mean time either scrimp and save for that cabinet,OR start hittin' the thrift stores and garage sales in search of the perfect ultra cheap cabinet!? You never know what you might find! :)

I like it colorful! What about adding a lighter shade of periwinkle to it in places.... I might do that instead of one solid color. I love how it looks with the door open, what a pretty color for a door!

I am partial to periwinkle. My dining room is painted that color. It is a very cheerful color. Love your table!
This is so great.....LOVE IT!!

totally fabulous!!! you've got the gift.
thanks for stopping and the kind words.

nita i like the color. maybe it's one of those pieces that you can paint seasonally. that would drive me nuts so i'd leave it. it really does make a statement. i'm a terrible stylist b/c i think what you've put on top of it is great. thank you for your really sweet comment today too.

It looks great. Don't worry about Halloween - orange and black go great with this color. Silver would also stand out great. Fantastic. Love your blog.
I love the color, but I would tone it down some, but it looks lovely with all of your colorful decor items around it.
But if you are not happy with it, then keep changing it until you LOVE it. How about painting it the color of the pillows that are on your couch in the side photo. The light shade of turquoise? Just a thought.
Hugs, Cindy
while i adore that color and it really brings out the pretty shapes of the table, i can see how that might be a problem for holiday decor later on. also, i like the suggestion Cindy above me made that a turquoise might be pretty too! but i think you should give it a few days before you make any decisions. it might just grow on you
I recently discovered your blog, your home is beautiful, full of charm. I think you have something in your head that you really want for the space but cannot afford it (I know the feeling) and I wonder if this will make you question ANYTHING else you put there. The table looks good, I like small homes and grew up in England so the proximity of the chair to the table to the door does not both me at all . . .I am used to stuff being close together in small homes. I love the color of the table and I like how it looks now, if it were me I think I would try hanging that print lower and hanging something else above it bring more height to the area . . .but that is just a small suggestion and it may not even be necessary.
Oh, one more thing . . .I do think an entry table should be useful and LOOK useful. I love everything on it in terms of how it looks, the colors especitally, but it doesn't look like an entry table in terms of use, it looks like it could be sitting anywhere but an entry. I know I would put a bowl for keys and a basket for mail (or some pretty containers of some kind) on an entry table. I think once it has a purpose you might feel that it "fits" better.
I like the periwinkle. This looks like a little table that I have. Does it open and swivel to make a card table? I haven't painted mine yet and really don't have any place to put it. But I hate to get rid of it. It was my grandmother's. I love the pic. that you used above your table. Have a nice weekend.
I think the color is great and will look great with halloween colors, but if you think it needs toned down, what about a green more in keeping with the headband in the print? Your home is lovely, I've followed your blog for a long time. You should be very proud.
Love the color! Don't change it. For halloween, cover it with a piece of black lace. For Christmas a floor length cloth of gold or white, whatever makes your decorating theme stand out. Then bare for January as it will make you feel like Winter will end someday.
It's perfect! And I'm amazed at how the color is the exact same as the hydrangias...not an easy thing to do!
When fall comes...remember that periwinkle exists in the dusk and the dawn of autumn skies and will look stunning with black!
xo J~
I think the periwinkle is a lovely color, but I understand about wondering if you'll be happy with it long-term. What about glazing it with white? It would tone down the color a little, and also highlight the details.
Love, love, love the color! Really gives the room a wow factor. Hope you will share at our showoff party every Sunday at http://decoratinginsanity.com

I like the color and the setting! I say forget the rules and go with what your heart loves.
I found your blog today and love it. I don't if such a newbie is allowed to weigh in to the discussion BUT I think the periwinkle is a bit bright, I actually liked the table most when it was a mis-match of colours?? Nicolex
I love the color! It looks great and gives the room a pop of color. If you want to style the table for the holidays, you can always put a tablecloth on it for a couple of weeks... :)
