Kate's Wedding Dress

The Big Day
I wasn't going to watch....
but I was up and I thought...I might as well stay up and watch it all.
The dress was modern, yet traditional.
Some say similar to Grace Kelly's.
I thought the ring was not going to go on for a second.
I have to say I was a little disappointed in the dress. I wasn't thrilled with the neckline.
It seemed very ordinary. But it was tasteful.

What did you think?

I'd kill my groom if he decided to wear a red coat.
It looked like she was marrying a lion tamer.

Really? You would kill your groom for wearing his military uniform? How crude.

Hello Nita! I held my breath when I thought that the wedding ring will not fit Kate.

I agree her wedding dress was simple and traditional. But I find it so elegant. I love the neckline and the lace.

I was very underwhelmed by the dress. It was pretty, but not extraordinary. Unfortunately, I had to rush to work after seeing Kate walk down the aisle to her dashing prince (I liked the uniform) so I missed seeing the ring.

There will undoubtedly be several recaps on TV tonight and over the weekend.

Seeing William and Harry standing at the alter as men was a tearful moment as I thought how proud Diana would have been of her two handsome sons.

You always have a funny take on things. The red was a little bright in comparison to Kate's more subtle attire. I liked Harry's uniform much better. Love the dress except for the V neckline. I found myself most intrigued watching Harry. And I too, held my breath on the ring. Love, love your Keep Calm sign! Hilarious!

Hi Nita! I'm bad - I didn't get up to see the wedding. I'm watching the highlights on GMA! I didn't think Kate's dress would be more of a WOW! I thought is was pretty, but like you, didn't care for the neckline. I think it said "I have little boobs!" :) I guess I'm more amazed that they were living together! :) I'm old fashioned.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

I thought she looked beautiful and he looked dashing. I still think of him toddling around, tho as a little boy in the 80's. :)

Well I was smitten with the whole affair...I thought the dress was gorgeous and the veil was stunning..simple and elegant. I was up at 3am watching - a little more understated than I thought it was all going to be but I loved it all. :)

I thought is was all very lovely and romantic.

I think it was a simple but elegant dress, veil, and tiara for a young lady. A fairy tail wedding per say. The red uniform was certainly different. And the ring seemed to be a bit tight going on and plain, just like the one Diana wore with that beautiful sapphire and diamond ring.Did you get a look at Camilia's rings? Huge!~Ames

A lion tamer, indeed! You've given me a good laugh to start the day.

I wasn't going to watch either. But the ceremony was just started as I was getting up. I loved the dress! I thought it was beautiful, simple and elegant. She wore the dress, it didn't wear her :)

Oh, I loved her gown. She's usually very cautious and conservative with her fashion choices so I thought it suited her perfectly. Plus it was just very elegant.
The boys looked good but Harry's epaulets and bow legged swagger sort of gave him a he-manishness I thought. Is that mean?

I loved the veil and the back of the dress. I didn't think the dress was a wowser though. However she looked beautiful sand elegant. I loved her earrings, the acorn diamond ones, and it was nice they were a gift from her mother. I am not a red person, and I noticed there was so much red in the ceremony, from the carpet runner to the robes, to Will's military dress uniform. Harry's military dress is a classier look, but that is because I prefer black for elegant occasions, not red! Laughed at the lion tamer comment, you are funny!

I thought everything was perfect. I'm sure every woman has a different ideal of the perfect wedding dress so there's no pleasing everyone. I think the choice of the designer was perfect. I had to go look at Grace Kelly's dress and it is similar except for the neckline. I'm not up on my British customs but I would imagine his regalia was traditional if not required. I love that she wore her hair down. It seemed to represent a more modern, relaxed monarchy-to-be.

It's hard for me to see Westminster Abbey and not think of Diana's funeral but I think the addition of the trees down the center aisle cast a joyous light.

It couldn't have been more perfect and it was a joy to experience.

Yep, Nita, you're right, I thought it was rather poor neckline, I still like Graces a lot better, much more elegant! The finish on the sleeves I also didn't think it was beautifully finished...she looked great, though, because she's such a pretty and elegant girl. hahahahaaaa...the lion tamer! Well, they wear the uniform of the order they belong to and I heard, this is the Irish Order Army, or something, he was named last Feb. I was up to and watched the whole thing, it was fun, loved some hats!

I loved her dress. When I think of Dianna's dress this was so simple in comparison. But I thought it was perfect. I liked the uniforms esp. on the little boys. I, too, thought and said outloud, that I wished Diana could have seen her little prince.
Loved the little car they rode out in.

Now Eugenia or Beatrice's hat....one of them.....that big bow was hilarious.
It all gave me goosebumps.

I WAS DISAPPOINTED TOO! SO glad you wrote it!

Ah well.

I thought the red was a bit bright but he probably didn't have any choice in what he wore...

We did not get up to watch on the East Coast but I did see the kiss on the balcony!

I thought the dress was perfect and just right for Catherine, simple and yet elegant. Prince William is in the Armed Forces and is part of the RAF search and rescue team (saving lives every day). He is entitled to wear his military uniform with pride. It is also tradition for Royal princes to marry in uniform. I though he looked quite splendid.

The dress--Beautifully elegant & perfect for marrying in an Abby. She was gorgeous! And her handsome Prince in his Military uniform--stunning! I thought the whole ceremony was one of the most lovely I have ever seen--Perfection...

I am bad because I just couldn't get into the whole thing. I of course have seen the dress and in my opinion her whole look was a recap of the late 1950's. Pretty and elegant, but no surprises.

It's so funny becuase my best friend and I were texting during the ceremony and she likes big and flashy and I like simple. I think she looked beautiful and the dress was uniquely hers. A perfect look for her. So elegant and timeless, really. He looked dashing and it was so moving to hear their vows. They seemed a little nervous and very sweet. Glad I got up at 4 AM to watch!

the wedding was lovely and they didnt look forced or nervous. the dress was underwhelming. she is soooo skinny lol.

as for the red uniforms way back it was a sign of royalty to wear red uniforms as red dye was soooo expensive only the rich,or kings had red unis on their people/

lion tamer roflll hugs JoAnn S

I think the dress really reflected Kate as a person, elegant, refined, understated confident, stylish, simple....she got very thin, I saw it in her face and waist..but she was a vision and a beautiful princess. I am so happy for them. To me, the ultimate in fairytale princesses, there is no other than Diana and a close second would be Princess Grace....but Kate did not disappoint and I think she stayed true to who SHE is and for that I really applaud her, and she and William seem genuinely happy! I wish them a lifetime of laughter and love.

It's not what I expected but I thought it was perfect for her. Actually I was kinda glad she didn't go over the top but kept true to herself.
Now if I had to pick a wedding dress for myself, I'd want what Jackie Kennedy wore or maybe one of those dresses that "Carrie" tried on in "Sex and the City the Movie". As for his red military coat, I'm sure he had no choice in that and at least he didn't have wear a kilt like they do in Scotland! LOL!

I thought the wedding was beautiful and elegant. The dress was what I expected from Kate. Now with that being said....is Beatrice and Eugenie trying out for the wicked step sisters in Cinderella???????? With all of the help that is available to them in the way of designers, wouldn't you think they would of been dressed better? Those fascinators...Yuck.

I loved her gown and her tiara. Much simpler and more tasteful than Di's concoction. Yes, the red was a bit much ~ I kept hearing Barnum & Bailey's circus theme in my head! I liked Harry's uniform much better.

I thought the ring wasn't going on, too!

Happy PINK SATURDAY!

I was disappointed in her dress too. When you literally can have any dress designed for you by any designer of your choosing, it just seems that that dress would be spectacular. This dress wasn't. It was elegant and pretty but there's a fine line between classic and boring.

Pippa, on the other hand, was stunning.

I thought the whole wedding was spectacular! Kate looked stunning and classy. Prince William looked dashing in his uniform. I do have to say that your "lion tamer" comment gave me a good laugh though! Jana in Texas

I guess poor Prince William was stuck with the Irish Guard uniform because his rank (colonel) is higher than in the other branches. Poor guy. Poor Kate. For once, Harry looked more dashing, I thought.

Lion tamer....ROFLOL!!!!

*but I did like the shamrocks on the collar...so I focused on them*

I liked Kate's dress because I think it was definitely "her." I would have liked to have seen a pretty strand or pearls or pearls sewn into the neckline. That would have been nice. I think it's interesting that the Queen's tiara that her mother gave her @ 18 was much more modest than the Spencer family's tiara that Diana wore on her wedding day. I thought the wedding reflected them, even the lesson and reading. It was sweet!

Oh I disagree - I was expecting a dress like this just from the few times I've seen images of Kate. She's classy and simple and elegant. I loved the back of the dress, the lace, and especially the veil. One of the announcers I heard said that the uniform William wore is that of the Irish Guard which he was recently inducted into. I thought it was dashing and perfect. Why should the girl get to have all the fun with wedding day attire??

Vicki V @ blestnest.blogspot.com said...

The dress was understated and elegant but maybe a little too conservative, in my opinion. I agree in that the neckline wasn't my favorite.

Loribeth said...

I loved her dress. I thought the neckline was so much more interesting and flattering than the sweetheart neckline that all brides seem to be wearing now.

I didn't watch the wedding as I was spending time with someone I love that I don't see much of because of where we live. However, I LOVE the dress. It is very tasteful and elegant and Kate looks beautiful. The dress shouldn't be the focus. The bride needs to shine and she does. On this side of the pond (UK), everyone loved her dress. As for the uniform, it is fitting that Prince William wore it as he is in the military. My uncle wore his uniform when he got married as he was in the Marines. Damn sexy I think.

It took me a few minutes to warm up to the dress. Now I think it was just perfect. Perhaps I'm a little old fashioned in that I considered her to be an "older" bride. I think the fairy tale look would not have served her well. It was just the right choice.
Blessings, Haven

I love the dress. It's simple and elegant, Kate is beautiful. The Wedding dress should not be the object. The bride has to shine and she does. On this side of the pond (UK), everyone wanted her dress. As for uniforms, it is normal that it was Prince William, and military. My uncle was in uniform when he married while in the Marines. Damn sexy, I think.
