Flowing with Water
I think every garden needs a beautiful fountain.
I have had one the last few years.
A small wall fountain.
But it really hasn't done much for my garden but
increase the mosquito population.
So much so that every year, I end up draining it and taking it down.
But I have a new plan for this year.
No water...
I'll fill it will flowers and plants instead.
I'm planting it today full of an assortment of plants including money wort and ferns.
The money wort will flow over the sides and out of it like water.
I'll show photos as soon as it's planted.
I actually think a fountain full of flowers makes just as good,
if not a better focal point in the garden.
And there won't be the pesky mosquitos to deal with.

What a great idea! I have one which I'm trying to sell. It has a drip. This would be a wonderful alternative and would look gorgeous with flowers and plants spilling out...Diane
I think that's a fabulous idea! and I agree, I love a beautiful old fountain especially if it's hidden slightly behind vines and flowers. It just makes a garden more dreamy. I have an old birdbath which also attracts creepy bugs but I love to look at it. :)
You found some beautiful examples!
oooh yes Nita, thats a great idea. I can't wait to see it. I found an old lion head with a spout and a separate catch basis that is a wall mounted fountain last summer in an antique shop but I didn't buy it. Wishing I did now....
These are simply beautiful!
I love them all!

oh, you are right!!!
I have a couple of fountains...one is planted with succulents and the other one has water ~ they are pretty both ways. have fun!
Good idea! The flowers in it will be so bright and attractive you will never miss the sound of water flowing, just the buzz of mosquitoes, but that will be a HAPPY miss.
Hugs, cindy
Nita! I *heart* your header!!! :D

Beautiful idea. But, there are these little round things you can get to crumble into water that will prevent mosquitos. They are perfectly save for birds and other creatures.
Clearly you are smart!
What a coincidence, I just went to my local nursery today and they had a three-tiered fountain filled with flowers! I loved it!!! Can't wait to see yours! I know it's going to be beautiful.
Thanks for sharing these great pics....hmmmm, wonder how much that fountain was....

I experienced the same thing. I bought a huge ceramic basin, buried in the ground, filled it full of river rocks and stuck a bamboo spout in it. It was just below my bedroom window so the sound of water trickling lulled me to sleep every night. But then the mosquitos came and it filled with leaves that rotted. I ended up taking it apart twice that summer. I broke it down in the fall and never did it again. I think there are treatments you can use to stop mosquitos from hatching/living but I had so many birds come and visit, I didn't want to affect them. It's a lot of work.
I have a fountain in my frontyard garden. It is a huge glazed ball that has water "bubbling" out of the top and flows down the sides of the ball into a big bowl. I've been lucky and haven't had an abundance of mosquitoes. Sure I get some yucky water with leaves but then I tip it and refill it. I got it for a fantastic bargain a few years back at the end of the season and I LOVE it1
But I really like your idea for tiered fountains and I bet it will look awesome with cascading flowers!

I love LOVE fountains. It is on my wish list. I'll have better luck getting a fountain than a gazebo and you have given me some great inspirational photos!

NOW THERE IS A THOUGHT! Mine has been empty for the last two years since the pump died out and my husband did not feel like buying a new one! FLOWERS!!! The only thing is that I do enjoy the sound of the water and we really don't get the mosquitos...but this is a GREAT IDEA!!!! Anita
Every photo is as gorgeous as the next. I had a fountain on my sun porch in my last house and could sit and listen to the water forever. Flowers sound like the perfect solution for you. It'll be pretty.
What a fabulous idea!!! I look forward to seeing yours all flowery!

Nita, thank you for stopping by my blog...I have been so tearful. Letting these babies go is killing my spirit. Plus mama will be feeling the loss too. Anyway, about your question regarding keeping a kitten. I want to but my husband thinks we have enough animal. 3 cats and 2 dogs. Plus mama needs a home. Anyway, your post is such a great idea, I have 2big urns that I want to fill soon thank you for the inspirations...you are so motivated darling. Dawn Suitcase Vignettes xo ps. have you done a post on Spring dining room table decor ideas?
Love the pictures, Your blog is just full of stunning pictures and ideas..However, I have a suggestions as far as fountains & mosquitoes are concerned- try chlorine in the fountain, the kind for a hot tub- they will never ever have anything to do with it and it keeps your water crystal clear-
