Phone Nooks

Vintage Style
This is my house phone. Not that I ever use it. I always use my cell but I still don't feel like a real person without a house phone. I coveted this phone at Pottery Barn for ages before I bought it. And I do love it. It's very ModVintage.
Which you know I like.

But I wish I had a phone nook to put it in. Most houses of the age of mine (1931) have phone nooks. A very modern convenience back in time.  A little shelf in the wall to hold the phone and the phone book. (phone book...who uses those any more?)

I have been thinking of making a phone nook for my house so I gathered these examples for reference. My house never had one because it actually had a full desk in the hall. But that desk was taken out long ago to make room for a closet that holds a hot water heater and the heat and air unit.

Aren't these cute? My neighbors on both sides have them...I'm so jealous.

Till I can get a phone nook, this little table will have to do.

This is in the hall outside the bedroom.

How good would this phone look in a little nook? It would be perfection.

Not as good as a phone nook.

I'm going to follow; so excited to know another who appreciates such style! We've each taken a different approach and that's interesting for us and for readers. I love your little phone table just the way you have it. Wonderful vignette. I have two of the red PB wall phones that we are not even using anymore.

I love phone nooks too. This phone would look fabulous inside a phone nook. I wonder if you could find a salvage nook. It looks like they were originally build between the wall studs. What a great future project.

Hi Stacy, so happy you stopped by Atticmag. I can't recall seeing phone "nooks" before but what a great idea they were. Have you seen the vintage telephone gossip benches? Next time you visit us, just put that into the search feature and see the post I did about them. Just attended a huge outdoor antique show and found 2 more that I am going to post about soon. It'd be another great option for your fab PB phone which, btw, I coveted as well until I found a 1940's original at an antique show for a steal. Luck was on my side that day~!

P.S. Glad to become one of your followers ~ I ♥ your blog name!

I have that phone from PB too, but mine is white. I wish I had a little phone nook as well, but I have resorted to exactly what you did by finding a little second hand table that was the perfect size and color for my house and phone.

Hi Nita,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and visiting my bird brain post.
Love your house and the phone nooks. Check out HGTV they have some ideas on Niches...fancy word for what you want. They show how to cut between studs reinforce with horizontal studs as large as you want the opening and then viole you can fill in the area with wooden box and accent the opening to your hearts content. It'd be a weekend job. Hope you get one soon.

Your phone is fabulous, Nita. And you're so right. Those little phone nooks are terrific. I especially like the ornamental ones. They add such vintage charm to your decor.

Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday. Hope to see you each week.

Have a happy and safe 4th!
