Mod Mix Monday #110

Summer Lounge
I'd love to lay around in this space reading magazines and blogs.
I love how casual it is but pretty.
very pretty

Summer is just moving right along...isn't it?

We've had a little cool down here.
It was only 74 degrees here today with rain.
A nice soft gentle rain instead of the tornadic monsoons we experienced
not too long ago.

Here I am talking about the weather...you'd think I'd have something better
to discuss.

I don't.
I've been boring of late....haven't I?

Well, boring can be good.
Not good for a blog...but good for your life.

It's bound to get more interesting...surely...perhaps.

Here are my favorites from last week's Mod Mix Monday.
Louise of Louise's West Oxon World shared the gathered junk that adds
to the atmosphere of her garden.
Like this old ladder destined to be thrown away that instantly adds dimension and interest to
her plants and patio.
The Weathered Door painted this jacobean buffet gray.
I'm a sucker for this kind of buffet as anyone reading my blog, knows.
Paint one and link it up on Mod Mix Monday and I'll pick it as a favorite every time.
I just never tire of them.
Curby's Closet had a great post on how to put together a
layered sitting area in the garden.
Tanya of Twelve O Eight made a cool Mod Vintage Industrial
sconce slash budvase. I love the mix of metal, wood and glass.
I don't usually pick a food item for Mod Mix Monday but look how pretty these cupcakes are!
I don't care how they taste...although I'm sure they taste great.
But they are the cutest cupcakes ever!
And they look totally edible.
So many cupcakes these days are pretty but don't even look like food or look like there is
so much frosting...you couldn't possibly really eat them.
These are from Tanya too of Twelve O Eight.
Cindy of Sunset Coast painted and reupholstered a little bench.
Love that fabric....it makes a vanity bench that might be too sweet lots of fun.

Share your new mixes below.
Remember anything old made over to be new...anything new changed up to look old.
New and old together...
Please include the Mod Mix Monday logo and back link to me.
Use a permalink to your individual post not to your entire blog.

If you link up...I'd appreciate it, if you'd follow me.

Mod Mix Monday - Garden Edition

Mixing It Up on the Patio
I found this pretty patio at HomeGoods.com
A shopper loaded a photo of their own patio that included HomeGoods finds.
I'm guessing those aqua garden came from there.
HomeGoods is finally coming to Oklahoma this fall in Norman.
I can not wait!

So, there was so much good stuff last week in Mod Mix Monday that I'm sharing here on
Tuesday all the projects that were garden related.
Christine of Little Brags shared this potting bench that was given to her by a friend.
The friend had it sitting around their garage and not using it.
Well, Christine has put it too good use!
Fabiana of Ciao! Newport Beach gave us a tour of a secret garden
after becoming friendly with it's owner.
I can see why glimpses like these made her want to go in and see more!
Andrea of Opulent Cottage showed off her third potting bench.
That's right...she has three. This one came from a neighbor anxious to be rid of it.
What a lucky girl! It's the perfect addition to her little summer sitting spot in her garden.

I love seeing everyone's yards, don't you?
I should have a little outside project to share tomorrow.
Stay tuned.

Keep linking up your projects at yesterday's Mod Mix Monday post.

Garden Rooms

Saturday Dreams
Garden Rooms
I'm obsessed with them at the moment.
Or the creating of them, that is.
The inside of my garage could become this.
They can be pretty and inside as this one is
Or simple and out in a greenhouse
This poolside one would be perfect on the back of my house.
This one too.
I have the space...I just need furniture and lots of plants and lighting.

With my newly developing sink hole in the backyard...there is a silver lining.
I've been wanting to dig out some patches of earth to create two stone patios.
One underneath my little back pergola and another to the side of my deck.

I had wondered what I'd do with the dirt.
Problem solved...I now have a hole the dirt can go into.

Perhaps it was meant to be.

I've been out shopping for patio furniture too....I feel like I can't make it one more year
without a proper settee and chair on the back deck.

I ponder and ponder the ones at Pier 1 but then tonight I went by
The Home Depot and was pretty smitten with this one and it's matching chair.

See the collection here

Prices are good and include cushions.
I don't think the cushions are as nice a quality as Pier 1's but they'd do for awhile.

Then I went by Lowes and saw this....
Really nice!

But no way can I afford this.

See this collection here

So I'll keep dreaming and planning.
I did buy some ferns today....the beginnings of my outdoor oasis.

Are you dreaming of your perfect outdoor room?

Emerald Green

I know... I know....
Emerald is the color of the year for 2013.
Old news....
I haven't talked about the color of the year this year because I really didn't have anything to
say about it except..."Hey, Emerald is the color of the year."

Today at work, Sarah said to me -
"If I hear one more person say to me that Pantone's Color of the Year is Emerald, I'm going to puke."
"I know it's the color of the year. It's March. Of course I know it's the color of the year!"
That was Sarah speaking, not me...she takes her decorating serious and we get our
decorating fix discussing decor with each other at work.
Nobody else there cares much about it.
They don't even know that Emerald is the color of the year...nor do they know what Pantone is.
Granted they do not care.
They have families and husbands and other things to use their brain cells retaining.

Sarah and I do not.

Anyway...she is tired of talking about Emerald being the color of the year.

And this coming from a person who loves green.
I don't love green.
I'll never have a major thing in my house that is green.
(famous last words)
Although there was quite a bit of green in my Easter Mantel decor.

Although I will admit that room above is quite appealing and could make me change my mind...maybe.
Ok, this room, definitely. I don't mind a stripe of green mixed with blues and yellows.
And that green dresser in the distance?
Oh...yeah....I love that.
Oh...and Pam's buffet she recently redid in Emerald sure is elegant and gorgeous....
that might sway me too.

Still when I think of lots of green in a room...my mind goes to lots of green in
the surrounding outdoors.
Nothing better than walls of nature's emerald.
Isn't this space magical? I'd like to spend Easter there.
Another lovely garden room surrounded in lush green.
Here the green comes into the room.
Have you added Emerald to your spaces this year or are you ignoring it?

I'm getting excited about planting stuff outside...spring is here and soon it will be warm enough.

This past week I've had a guest staying with me.
My Aunt's little longhaired dachshund, Kate.

My Aunt took ill last week and was admitted to the hospital.
We feared at first that she might be there awhile but she made a remarkable recovery and
will possibly be getting out tomorrow.

She'd asked me to watch Kate while she was away from home.
I have to say...she was the best house guest ever!
Not one bit of trouble.
I doubt my own dogs would be as good.

Really, she could just stay here for good and I would not mind one bit.

Good little Kate.

Have a great Friday and a great weekend!

Garden Rooms

The Green Room
Oh...to have a lovely garden room such as this!
It's overgrown on the inside as well as on the outside.
This one too...but in a less formal way.
The outside just comes right on in through the doors.
This would be the perfect art studio...which I need.
This one is actually an outside room constructed of old windows and doors.
A magical spot in the garden.
Yes, I have garden rooms on the brain. I'd love to have this greenhouse in my backyard.
Won't be long till I'll be pre-occupied with getting the yard in shape.
I do have my own little garden room of sorts...the breakfast nook which has a door leading out
to the deck.
This spring, I'll be painting my "to be" potting bench.
This is the spot where it will sit - right outside my backdoor.
The backdoor that needs to be replaced.
See the sliding door?...Soon to be replaced with french doors in the same color as the windows.
My deck is not very nice. But it looks good when covered in plants.
When my deck looks like this...it is a joy to be in the breakfast nook and go in and out to the deck.
But here is my ugly secret....
Since I didn't have time to paint that hutch last summer,
I didn't want to leave it outside where the elements would ruin it without a coat or several
coats of paint.

So it has sat in my breakfast nook all fall and winter waiting for me to paint it.
So I haven't been able to show a long shot of my dining room or living room looking that direction...
because there is a big piece of furniture and various other projects in the way.
I haven't been able to do a shot like this in months...because through the doorway from
dining room to breakfast nook...it's a pile of junk.
Not junk...just projects.
I also have an artist easel in there where I am working on paintings.
I would have moved that hutch to the garage but it is way heavy...way way way heavy.
I got it in the house and I'm not moving it any more than I have to.
It's going to be hard for me to move it around just to paint it.
So...my only garden room in the house...is full up with furniture and junk waiting for me to tackle it.
And the walls still need to be fixed and repainted.
And that is why I have to keep showing shots of my dining room like this....so that
you don't see what is just beyond the doorway.

But now that you know this...perhaps it will get me moving on painting that piece.

At least I hope so....
Don't hate me because I'm messy and a procrastinator....
Better done eventually than never done at all.
That is my motto.

Sunrooms on a Saturday

Each one of these sunrooms is prettier than the last.
I do wish I had a sunroom although with the heat of the past few weeks,
a sunroom would be best avoided.
Still I love all these images. Especially that first one with the weenies!

Today I'm off to a family reunion. Not my family reunion but the family of a very good friend.
Someone I've known all my life, my friend Pam.
We always say we've known each other like 120 years because our grandparents grew up knowing each
other and our fathers grew up knowing each other.
My father grew up in the house she was later raised in and I grew up a block away from
her house.
Close ties you see.
Personally, we've known each other since kindergarten.
This weekend she came from Memphis to go to her family's reunion and invited me to come too.
Every year from way before I could remember, my family had a reunion every Memorial Day
at my Grandmother's house.
Unfortunately, the reunion's stopped when my Grandmother died and so many of our family
are gone now that it feels like we only see each other at funerals.
Which is really a sad shame.
Anyway, growing up and especially after I was grown, the yearly family reunion was not
really something I looked forward to. I thought I was too cool for it or something.
But just as usual, once something is gone...you miss it very much.
So tomorrow I will go and enjoy someone else's family and feel lucky to be included.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your own family.

Oh...more more thing...Pier 1 has most of their outdoor furniture on sale
if you want a good deal on some outdoor wicker.
