Vintage Kitchen Stoves

 via
Vintage stoves...I'm pretty much obsessed with them.
Oh....how I want one!
As I said earlier this week one of the drawers under my range top is all crooked.
The track is bent which means I have to buy another track and install it.
Not a fun job. I've done it before.

And my wall oven does not maintain a constant temperature.
I set it and it gets up to whatever temperature I've set it at and then it immediately starts to cool down.
I'm sure it's probably the thermostat that is acting up.

But oh...how it makes me want to just pull out the wall oven and take out the range top
and get an old stove.
 via
A nice vintage stove like these.
 via
They are dreamy.
 via
They are not too expensive. But to have one refurbished IS expensive.
 via
Aren't these stoves amazing?
 via
The gorgeous centerpiece in a vintage kitchen.
 via
Yes, I want one badly.
I see them time to time on Craigslist.
Here is one currently listed for $400.
This one for $500.
If I coud haul one of these home by myself...I'd probably already have one.
But I can't.
A more practical alternative would be this Big Chill new model and it could be delivered.
It does look some what vintage. And it has all the modern conveniences like instant lighting burners.
Plus the top is easy to clean.
They come in a wonderful selection of colors...but I'd just get a vintage white
although the yellow really is pretty.
Or do you think a White Viking would be better?

These are the things I day dream about....which stove will I get when I can get a stove.

I ponder it like its the most important decision ever.

Never mind that I can't afford to do anything about anything at present.

But when the time comes that I can...I'll know exactly what I want.

Today my Mom is coming up and we are going shopping!
Not for stoves...we are just going to mess around and see if there is anything we need.

Of course we always need something!

Have a Happy Saturday!

Carrara Marble in Kitchens

I'm obsessed with Carrara marble in kitchens.
 via
I've spoken of my obsession here before.
That's Brook's old kitchen of Velvet and Linen fame.
So pretty...and yet she has moved on to a bigger and better kitchen.
I'd be happy with that one.
 via
This looks like the best apartment ever.
 via
Very old world vibe in this kitchen. Notice the bun feet?
Lots of marble on the island.
 via
This kitchen is covered in marble and I adore it!
 via
Love the simple vibe of this kitchen.
The stove and the stove nook plus the marble and cabinets I think are so great in this kitchen.
Plus its my dream to have a vintage stove like that.

Here is why I am thinking about marble today....
Two years ago I bought a little sofa table to use as a kitchen island in my galley kitchen.
I loved the look of it but it lasted in there only two months.
It was just in the way.

It now is in my back bedroom used as a tv console.
At which it works nicely.

But I couldn't give up my wanting an island even though my kitchen is small.

So one day at work last August, we got in a new little bedside table.
A very small bedside table and it occurred to me that it would be just the right size to
work as an island in my kitchen.

That got my wheels turning trying to think if I had such a table already.

I came home and realized...I had this table that really was kind of in the way in the hall.
I'd been using it as a phone table for a phone that never gets used.
I took it into the kitchen and it was perfect!
It just needs some wheels on the bottom so it can roll around.

I would have taken a photo to show you today but the batteries are dead in my camera and
searching the house found me none.

Anyway...that's an old photo from when it was in the hall.

So then I think...if it just had a marble top!

I went to work the next day and asked one of the girls if she knew where I could get a remnant of
marble to make a top for my island.

She called up her Dad who works in construction right then and he said...
"I've got a piece right here. I'll throw it in the truck."

I couldn't believe my good luck!
I thought she'd just tell me where was the best place to go looking for
such a thing...not get me a piece!

So she hauls it to work for me a few days later. It's bigger than I need.
It's like 20x30. I wanted 18x18.

Now...here is the problem.
It was free! free! can you believe it?
But the cost to get it cut is going to be like $150 which is why that has not happened.

I hate spending $150 - that ruins my whole do this for no money thing.

So I've been at a stand still on this project ever since.

Although the table has been in the kitchen all fall and its working nicely.

I can't justify spending $150 to get it cut when I was trying to do this project for little or nothing.

What to do? I'm sure I'll have to break down and pay the $150.
I also still have not installed the above kitchen faucet.
It's been sitting in its box for almost a year at my house.

These projects are just a small beginning to all the things that I need to do around here
and guess what?

My Christmas tree is still up.
Yes, now its at the embarrassing stage.
I was going to take it down today.

But I did nothing instead.
Which wouldn't have been so bad but I did nothing yesterday too.

There is always tomorrow, right?

Not a great start to my New Year.
I'll admit I was very tired from all the activities of the last part of 2013.
That's my excuse. I needed to rest.
I'd been sick too...but I'm well now...so I really don't have an excuse.

But really, tomorrow the tree must come down!
 via
I'm also thinking about uncovering the brick chimney in my kitchen.
Doesn't the brick look wonkey and charming in that image above?

Last thing I need to be doing is chipping away at the walls though when I have so many
other things that must be done.

Also, Sherwin Williams is having a sale this weekend and it would be the perfect time
for me to buy more paint so that I could paint my dining room to match the living room.

I can't seem to focus at the moment.
I know...make a list and just go down the list, one thing at a time.
One thing at a time.

but start with the tree

Vintage Kitchens

Kitchen Heaven
Me and a vintage kitchen.....I love em.
I found this one on Pinterest and it's full of great details.
Oh...to have room for an island. I do wish my kitchen had the space for one.
Another favorite of mine.
Love the metal top on this island.
I adore a vintage stove...but I don't think even I would have been inspired to keep this one.
Old photos from my home show one very much like this used to be in my kitchen
as recently as the early 90's.
I have to admit this one looks pretty great paired with that stainless sink.
Oh...my...have you seen this kitchen over at
If not...go there NOW.
This is an apartment in Paris where they turned the dining room into a dining room / kitchen.
It's so pretty. The cabinets are built around the existing fireplace.

And then there is this fabulous kitchen makeover
 done by Sue at
This was the before
and the after...
Plenty more of it to see at her blog. I love the way the cabinets are done above and around the stove.
I don't know why I have such a kitchen addiction. I don't cook very much at all.
But I love kitchens.

***UPDATE***
July 28, 2011
I just found out that the first kitchen I pictured is from a house in South Africa.
You can read all about this kitchen and house at this blog -

Vintage Stove 2

Still Obsessed

I forgot to include this stove that I found yesterday too.

It's new but I think it's pretty fabulous.
The brand is Bertazzoni.
Does anyone know anything about these?
source: Attic Mag

And for a new stove...I think it would keep me very happy.

I loved all your supportive comments yesterday telling me that I should just go get the stove.
And I also appreciated the few that told me to get a grip and not go get the stove.

Here she is again.
But I have to be realistic.
I can't rip out half of my kitchen to accommodate a stove that most likely needs to be refurbished.
Even though it is my dream stove.
And even though...I only use my oven about three times a year.
If anyone could live with a vintage stove it's me.
I cook most everything in the microwave.
Oh..I do use a burner or two, here and there.

I still keep thinking about her though.
I even measured to see if she would fit.
She would, no problem.

I'll try to have photos of my kitchen tomorrow.
With all its many flaws.
Not actually flaws...just things I don't like.

Vintage Stove

How I Adore You
source: Sunset.com

I broke one of my rules today.
Big mistake.
A rule that keeps me content in my life.
A rule that enables me to move forward and not just fantasize about what might be.

I adore a vintage kitchen complete with vintage appliances.

Today, I got on Craigslist which I usually don't do much because it's a hassle to open
all those different listings.

But now...
thanks to
You can go and look up anything quickly, seeing all the photos
as easy as if you were browsing a blog. With this, its easier than ebay!

So today, I typed in vintage stove and darn if there wasn't this perfect one
for $150 in my part of the city.
See my rule is -
Don't Browse Craigslist unless you
1. Need the thing you are looking for
2. Have the money for the thing you are looking for
3. Have a way to pick up the thing you are looking for
4. Have a place to put the thing you are looking for

You see, I don't have a spot for this or the money for this or the place to put this...
but I WANT this, badly.

I even started thinking...I could go get it and put it in the garage until I rip out my existing
built in range and oven. Bad idea. This looks like a great stove...
It's an O'Keefe & Merrit.
Just like the one in the photo below.
Yum....Oh...it would look so good in my kitchen.
 source: garden web

Of course if I had the antique stove, I'd need a retro refrigerator to go with it.
Which is easily done either from Big Chill or Northstar

source: Big Chill
source: Northstar

I've always wanted one of these.
Northstar has a stove that looks vintage...sort of...
source: Northstar

It just isn't anywhere near as cool. It just doesn't look right.
source: Big Chill

But then I see that Big Chill has a new retro stove now too.
This is more like it but still not as good as a real honest to goodness vintage one.

Just love those old stoves. I have got to quit thinking about the one available
just around the corner.
First, I'd have to tear out my perfectly good stove and I'd have to tear out cabinets
and I'd have to have it restored.
It just can't be...but I can't stop thinking about her.
A friend of mine has one of these stoves but it's red and it sits in her garage.
She has the same problem...she'd have to tear up the kitchen to bring in and she'd have to get it refurbished...so it still sits in her garage....waiting.

The reason I started browsing was that Attic Mag had a great post entitled
"Kitchen-Contrasts1920-2010" it compared true vintage kitchens with
the vintage inspired kitchens of today. You can read by clicking on their logo.

That is what made me think..."Oh yeah...wonder if there are any vintage stoves available around here?"
Breaking my rule.

Darn it.
