Got Em!
Capturing Ghosts using the GCS
(Ghost Containment System)
I told you I still had another little spirit flying around the house.
I created this little ghost containment system to capture him yesterday.
It turned out so well.
I am on the look out to find other things to make into more containers.
I've had this odd glass cylinder with wood lid and base for quite awhile.
I was just waiting for inspiration to hit.
The other day I decided it was just the thing to capture a ghost in.
But it needed sprucing up first.
I purchased the wood finial at Michael's and glued it to the top with wood glue.
Then all I had to do was spray paint it silver.
At that point, it looked really nice...but I wanted it to sparkle as much as my mercury glass collection.
So out came the Martha Stewart glitter and a little spray adhesive.
I've been using this combo on pumpkins with great success.
I'll show a project soon.
That Martha, she knows her glitter. Her glitter really is the best.
So after the sliver spray paint dried for a couple of hours.
(Metallic spray paint always takes longer than regular spray paint to dry.)
I sprayed the whole thing with the spray adhesive.
I let it dry a minute or so. So that it is not wet but just tacky.
Then, I began alternating sprinkles of Martha Stewart silver and smoky quartz glitter
till the entire piece was covered.
(I mixed the two colors to get a slightly tarnished silver shade that went perfectly with my mercury glass)
I rubbed it in with my hands till every bit of it was covered.
The resulting finish is surprisingly smooth.
Not like what you normally think of for something covered in glitter.
It's almost like silver leaf.
I love the effect and can't wait to try it on something else.
I'm seriously thinking about doing this to a piece of furniture.
It's sparkly enough to hold it's own against the mercury glass.
To read about the other little ghosts that I captured a few days ago...read this post.
I had originally thought I'd do this in black...but I love silver and I can use it at Christmas too.
And surprisingly, silver works quite well for Halloween.
Especially if it's tarnished but seems even if it's not...it works.
