Today, Mom and I are going shopping for french doors.
My sliders in the breakfast nook have been in bad shape for quite awhile.
The sliders are Pella brand which is suppose to be very good
but they haven't held up so well.
It's actually a good thing...because I wanted french doors anyway.
But....I also want to turn the back bedroom window into another set of french doors
so that I'd have access to the backyard from two sets of french doors in the house.
Wouldn't that be grand?
I'm wondering how expensive it would be to have someone rip out my window and brick
and put french doors in.
Anyone know if this is an expensive job?

I love French doors, too. I don't think it's as expensive as you think because the French doors now come with the framing as part of the package. Painting them is the tricky part. I think you should get two sets, and replace the windows in the bedroom with French doors. I love them, and I love the inspirational photos you have posted!

It's not expensive to cut the brick. The capping, framing etc is close in price to doing a window.
Lovely inspirational pictures. I just had my windows changed and it was quite expensive, but I love the result!
I don't know anything about the expense but I know you will love them. I'm loving the blue ones.
Did you notice that some open out and some in? I wanted ours to open out so they wouldn't take up wall space when opened but our contractor said it couldn't be done. Read that as, Too much trouble. I've regretted it ever since as I'm limited in what I can put where the doors open.
Beautiful French doors Nita - I hope you find what you're looking for!
Love the French doors, but always wonder where people live that they can leave them open. Maybe SoCal is the only place with flying insects?
Those blue doors in the first pic are to die for. Gorgeous!!

I love French doors! Put them in every room, why not?
I love our new french doors in the bedroom and they were about the same cost as replacing the slider. We went with a Masonite door because of the extreme weather here and the termites.
In order to take out the window and replace it with a french door you will probably have to have a new header put in to support the load above it but it is totally do-able.
And it sure sounds pretty,

French doors are the best! I love them and I am happy to hear you will have your own set soon! I think it would be wonderful to have a matching set to open right up into the yard, but not sure what an undertaking that would be to remove brick vs cutting into wood siding on a house.
Love French Doors! In our bedroom we had them installed and oh how I love to lie in bed and gaze out no matter what the season. They bring JOY.
Oh YES!
Do the French Doors!
I love them and I someday hope to knock out the 2 big windows in my kitchen and put in French Doors to open out onto a deck.
I can see the Mod planters and the table with the turquoise umbrella in my head right now. Sigh...
I say, if you can find a way, DO IT!
Ooooohhhhh, will you paint them blue? I LOVE the first photo. If you did that it would be like going on vacation in France every time you opened the door......I know you have a good imagination :)

I have an extension on the back of my house from the 1960s and so I have the original 1930s doors leading out to it, they are in very good condition having not been exposed to the outdoors and they are so pretty :-)
Sounds beautiful, and expensive. I hope you're able to do it, though!
I love french doors leading to the outdoors, it's not practical where I live because of the extreme temps that we get in the winter time. It's a dream of mine though!
All the doors you show are wonderful. We have French doors in 2 rooms and I love them.
The collection of door photographs you have is so terrific! Each door photo has its own character and beauty. I just love the way the color and design of each door looks. I'm so delightful to have stumbled on your blog. I'll definitely bookmark it. Cheers!
My wife loves French doors, which translates to the doors we have on our house. Well, I like them too because they can serve as windows at the same time. If you want to feel the breeze outside, you’re free to open one and enjoy the gentle wind. You can also add curtains if you want some privacy.

I can't help but be inspired by those wonderful French doors! Like what Francisco said, this door resembles a window. And the best thing about it is that it opens up a space making it airy, bright, and spacious. It feels good to stay connected with the outside while staying inside, right?
