Some how the decidedly nanna-ish doily looks very unstuffy when a bunch are stitched together.
I am now wishing I'd bought every single one I'd seen over the years at flea markets.

    OMG Nita, I can't believe some of those things. I like the pendant lights best! Betsy made me remove my doily...I think I have a few in hiding!

    Love that large globe light. Now that's enough to make me dash up to our thrift stores. I'm thinking fabric stiffener and a ball to shape it!??

    Some of those are beautiful. Still a little granny chic I think. Not that I have anything against grannies.

    I like them framed on black so they're really graphic. I was actually thinking of doing that in one of my bedrooms.

    Hey Nita! I love this post. You made me realize that indeed doilies are not just for grannies. A splash of creativity is all it takes to convert it to wonderful and modern decorative pieces. I love doilies especially knowing the fact that its details are intricate and all hand made.

    I love these and saved a couple of the pictures to my pinterest boards. They made me think of another picture I saved: http://pinterest.com/pin/108589223/

I just recently came across her blog - she and her husband live in Tulsa and she has been the merchandising director for Anthropologie there. There are TONS of great ideas on her blog and the pictures of her store displays makes me want to go shopping in Tulsa!

    What a doileyliciuos post!! Love these, who knew they so many uses? I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THESE.....stunning. The drapes with them on the bottom in the first picture is just gorgeous. Great job Nita!

    Great post and yep I have saved them all my life as they make wonderful projects, you can get very creative with them. I loved them when I was very young and now that I'm young at heart! I guess I was born with an old soul, :) Hugs and Happy Day! Marilou

    I gotta be honest.
    When I saw the post title "Doilies" my first thought was - UGH!
    But because it's YOUR blog I read it anyway. I'm so glad that I did.
    I especially like them as "shades" on the hanging lights.

    To those of you asking how the doily light was made...yes the same as the string globe lights. You need a large ball and thinned elmer's glue and lay the doilies all over it. I wish I I had a spot for one of these in my house but I just don't. But I love it. I'd also think it great fun to crochet one of those rugs. You use rope and crochet just like you would a small doily but use your hands instead of a hook. I imagine it might take a bit to get the hang of it. But I'd love to give it a try.

    I confess no matter how out of style doilies had become I still used them and things we called dresser scarves. Some are family treasures and it's good to see them become acceptable again in very lovely ways.
