Texas Gypsy Style

 I ran across a piece of furniture on Pinterest the other day that led me to the Etsy store for a very talented lady. The shop owner for Texas Gypsy Style is Krista Mulkey. This furniture just wowed me! Look at all the layers of color!

 I have a thing for these old Jacobean style sideboards anyway. I have one myself I painted mine a creamy white. I love it but oh...my these are jewels! These are something else!

 

  The depth of color is amazing! Let me tell you it takes a lot of time to get this effect.

 This is the first piece I saw that made me stop everything and go through all of this Etsy shop.

 The layer upon layer of color is so scrumptious!

This one's a little more simplified but still beautiful. Still fun.

 I'd love to paint some furniture around my house like this. But afraid it's a little bold for my cottage.

I worked. My Mom is car shopping and I went looking with her three days last week.

Ugh...car shopping...it's the worst. 

Her little pickup got ran into a month or so ago and it was totalled.

She is trying to figure out what she wants now.

Three days of walking many car lots while she tried to decide.

I think she has it narrowed down to three.

So that put me behind. 

I didn't get much done during the week so I had to work a lot Saturday night, Sunday and today.

I've just about got it all wrapped up.

On to the next thing!

Open House Sunday

built 1929

If you can believe that! But totally redone 2019.

Here is the before. 

This house might not have been the finest example of 1929 design but I would have rather seen a renovation that paid tribute to its origins rather than making it into a house that looks brand new. But that's just my opinion. Yes, placement of windows is odd. I wouldn't object to adding widows. Modern farmhouse is still very hot around here. Problem is...this house will look dated in a few years. If they had gone with a more classic renovation it would not look dated. That said...they did a good job.

Nice open foyer. Simple pretty staircase.

 Fireplace is cute. But will look dated in a few years.

Although, that said my own fireplace is of course very dated to 1931. I like that it's antique looking. But I'm sure people living in 1961 hated it. But you give something some time and it becomes cool even if it isn't in style. That's why I like antiques.

This house is staged and they did a good job. I love those bobbin chairs. I like the light wood color.

Classic Chesterfield sofa. When I was working in furniture stores - people always came in wanting a Chesterfield and we did not keep them in stock. They had to be ordered. I always wondered why they wouldn't just keep a leather chesterfield in stock and one in a neutral fabric. I could have sold them over and over. Now you'd think the store owners would ask us designers what people came in asking for. Nope. They did not. They let the merchandisers pick what was on the floor even though those merchandisers never had contact with the public. Very frustrating. 

On the inside you'd never think this house was built 1929. It looks like new construction except the ceiling you can see where walls were taken out.

Very nice kitchen and dining. A little too masculine for my taste but I know buyers like all of this.

Do you like the stacked subway tile? I prefer the traditional brick pattern. But this is more modern. Everyone says they are over white subway tile that bolder patterned tile is the way to go but I still love it. Love these countertops.

I imagine this used to be a den rather than a bedroom. And must have been an addition. I love a fireplace in a bedroom. 

This room looks huge. 

I really like this. Those lights are very pretty. 

I love the floor in here but not crazy about that large tile in the shower. It's practical, I suppose.

Living Room Projects

So since 2013 I've been working as a designer in a furniture store and not home much and not blogging much.

During that time all my projects got put on hold around the house except for HAVE TO

projects. 

Now that I'm once again between full time gigs...it's time to confront all that needs to be done here.

I bought that little chest above two years ago because it was just the right size to go by the front door.

I wanted something not very deep but wide enough to fill that wall.

Oh...I could've bought this in a creamy white finish that would have gone very well with my decor but it was three times the price in that finish. So I bought the version on sale for $130 planning on painting it myself. Here it is still waiting to be painted two years later. 

 

I am thinking of painting it similar in style to this. I don't know where this image came from I've had saved on my phone a long time.

A year ago Kirklands had this version of the same cabinet in a natural wood finish. I would have been happy with this finish but it was around $400 and that's not in the budget and now they don't have it any more. I'd rather an antique piece in this spot but antique pieces are always deeper. This one is only 12 inches deep.

It's just the right size by the door. Oh...that burgundy color looks so bad. When Mom saw it she loved it and said I should not paint it. But I hate it so it's getting painted.

I started to strip and paint the wood work in this room and never got back to it.

That is a priority project that needs to happen. Then I need drapes after that.

Oh and the room desperately needs a bigger rug.

Seems like I should be getting lots done right now but between working on two design projects for clients and searching for a full time job and....I have a part time job I am doing that is keeping me solvent.

There is not much time for decorating in my own house these days.

 I love alabaster lamps. This one I found out shopping with my friend Leslie at a country antique show.

 I am WAY over that lamp. But have not found one that speaks to me yet to replace it. One day I'll run across one I can't live without. I have bought two different ones that I thought would go in this spot but neither looked as good as this one. So they ended up in other places in the house.

 Soon the fall stuff will come out. Won't be long now at all.

I bought chalk paint the other day to paint this.

Aiming for it to look somewhat like this. I am a little worried that it will fight the fireplace a little.

I once had a table in this spot that was given to me. It was painted a pale yellow green.

The color looked actually fine in the room. But I didn't like the color so I painted it periwinkle instead. The table looked great in periwinkle but it looked too bold for the room. 

I ended up moving the table to another spot in the house. It was the wrong size anyway.

I could go the safe route and paint this a creamy white but I have a lot of creamy white in the living room.

Any opinions?
