Open House Sunday

Victorian Cottage
in Sonoma, California
built 1875

This precious black and white victorian is full of quirky victorian details
with a modern sensibility.
See...quirky!
Huge clock...taxidermy peacock on a stick.
The peacock is gorgeous...but I could not live with any taxidermy.
I love how big the clock is. It came from a french train depot.
 Cute chairs.
We have some that exact shape at Pier 1.
They'd need to be recovered to look like these, however.
Sarah...the mistress of the home had the walls spray painted by an artist with
washes of creamy hued paint.
I like the variation in the color on the walls.
It slightly changes from room to room.
The 1940's stove came with the house.
She added the hood and the Heartland refrigerator.
The cabinets are painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Gray.
Isn't this an interesting kitchen? Wish I had that stove...oh yes I do.
Lovely breakfast area.
Custom cut mirrors fill an antique window creating a fabulous floor to ceiling mirror.
Above the children's bed hangs a vintage Circus poster.

  1. OK, here's my problem.
On "even" days I want to live in a Mid-Century Modern all white beach house.
On "odd" days I want an old restored home with quirky finds, color and lots of land for horses.
So it being an ODD day today, I love this.
(And that chicken coop could be made into several things!)

  2. This house is special, simple, dignified. I love it. That Gothic window centered over the front door but only one of them. The symmetry of the two bay windows. The cobblestone forecourt. And then the quirky surprises inside. Just pretty.

  4. That's a very beautiful house. The kitchen and bathroom are my favourite. She is a smart decorator to keep that fabulous stove, I would love to have it too!

  7. I really loved those walls. Especially in the guest bedroom. I had to agree with Cynthia (your first comment) and her even/odd idea. Only I need a third option! I stay confused as to my decorating likes or loves most of the time. Of course on my budget, it's not exactly a consideration. Have a great week!
