Inspiring Kitchens

All these photos from my Kitchen Pinterest board.
Most of the kitchens I pin are small but have wonderful details.
I'll never have a large kitchen. I'm really fine with having a small one.
My own kitchen is galley style and serves my purposes well.
But there is no reason why a small kitchen can't be the very nicest kitchen there is.
These are some of the more recent kitchens I've pinned.
All of them with wonderful details.
Even a rough painted white brick wall can be elegant.

Today, I drug this chair home for my back deck from Pier 1.
Yes, yellow...I know...not really fitting my usual color scheme.
But you see this one was a bargain!
It had been damaged in shipment....and the wicker was coming terribly unraveled on one leg.
I can fix with a little work and some hot glue.

Actually, I've been thinking about getting this chair for three weeks.
What held me back was the color.

But tonight I decided...a yellow chair was better than no chair....so I brought it home.

Why couldn't a brown one have been damaged instead?
I have to say it is very very comfortable and at 75% off....I couldn't say no.

I'll make it work somehow.

  1. Wow, these kitchens are stunning! I like small kitchens. We had a very large one in Arizona, and I walked myself to death. Our current kitchen is small, but it feels large because I painted it white and it's open to our family room.

I need to go and play on some of your Pinterest boards when I get the chance.

I love the yellow chair! I have yellow accents in our home. It's the most cheerful of colors! I think you'll enjoy it. There's a peacock pillow at Pier 1 I've been wanted...it would be cute in your chair!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  4. :)
I've been looking at my Pinterest boards this morning too.
I obviously have a split personality.
    It's giving me a headache.
I rarely drag anything home that doesn't need to be repainted.
I guess it's just part of the bargain, but it would be nice to find something "prefect" for once.

  6. I love some of these kitchens. I'm really leaning away from regular kitchen cabinets for my house and starting to look for old furniture pieces to cobble something fantastic together.

Nothing wrong with the yellow chair...nothing a can of spray paint can't fix if you want.

  7. Beautiful some of these kitchens! Wish I had seen them before I posted my own kitchen, so I can decorate more like some of these here. Thanks for sharing Nita. Enjoy your Summer.

  8. Julia Child had a small kitchen, now in the Smithsonian.

I bought a pair of wicker chairs from Pier 1 over 2 decades ago, at discount due to damage.

Still have them. Gosh the permutations thru the years. Wish I had photographed them.

One year they were used in a huge flower show garden I entered, won a national award.

Now, 1 is in my office at the window. The other is in my guest cottage.

Ironically, have never really liked them. Not my 'ideal'. Their value arrived with their history on my journey in life.

  9. Those are all pretty kitchens! I've been wanting one of those large farm-style sinks for a while now. But it'll probably have to wait for the next house.

LOL! Me, I would have wanted the yellow chair and not a brown one!

  10. I love these kitchens, Nita, especially the one with the white tile all the way up the walls and the "sit" pillow on the bar stool. I'm figuring out an inexpensive redo for my kitchen right now, so this is well timed!!

  12. I like your yellow chair. You could paint it with 2X if you want it a different color. I have always found great things at Pier 1.

I prefer a small kitchen, too. If I could design exactly what I want, I would love to make it small but with the best of everything, just scaled down. Then right next to it, I would have a humongous pantry with room for everything.

  13. Think my favorite kitchen was the one with white brick wall, love the Frenchy look to it. They were all really nice but that one spoke to me.
Love your header, really pretty and beachy, summery looking.
We lived in San Diego area for 21 yrs. and I still miss the beach. Wish I could go down to visit oldest son and see the beach, hang out at his pool. He lives inland form the beaches of San Diego.
Um hey girl that yellow chair is very cheery, spray paint it.
They charge almost as much at thrift stores here for wicker chairs as they do at Pier 1. I'd love to have your chair. I still have a wicker chair I bought when it was still the Akron, (not Pier 1) in San Diego and that is many many years ago, it's done some traveling with us. Happy summer

  14. Beautiful Kitchens! Small but oh so sweet! I love to study the details and find what I can put my own "spin" on. Hardware is key, and I always shop Look in the Attic & Company for my updates! Great quality, and so many Victorian, Farmhouse, Art Deco etc styles! DREAMY!

  16. Your photos are always inspiring, Nita - they make us dream and drool (in a good way!) Pier One had some great patio/entertaining items this year didn't they -- I bought the same chair in brown, tho' wished for the yellow or red ones.
