I wish the room that my french doors were going in would be large like this one.
But alas...they go in my little breakfast nook.
If I put them in in place of the windows on the back bedroom...I'd have a
situation like this. Perfection...isn't it?
Love these great big steel ones.
Yes, french doors out to a garden would be lovely.
So...Mom and I shopped on Wednesday for doors.
We looked at Lowe's and Home Depot and then went to
locally owned Forest Lumber where they said they could make me anything I wanted.
The ones at Lowe's and Home Depot were steel.
Someone here mentioned Masonite doors...I saw those and was totally considering.
The ones at Forest Lumber would be fiberglass which they said I could paint any color.
That appealed to me because I want them painted blue/green on the outside to match the rest
of my house.
No decision made.
Anyone know anything about fiberglass doors?
Just realized with this post....I've begun my fourth year of blogging.
My how time flies. I can't believe it.
Three years documented.
A life in all it's beauty and pain.
I'm hoping it's heavy on beauty the next three years.

Congratulations on three years of blogging! What a blessing it has brought to our lives! I'm so happy to have you for a blog pal :) Congrats on the doors too, I can't wait to see them! I have always wanted to add some out of Abby's bedroom, which would go out to our back patio, so now I can learn from you. Lucky me! Hope you have a great weekend. We are going to Canton, woohoo! Stop by if you have time and see my new baby!

Nita,
ReplyDeleteI think French doors are so neat. Sam and I always wanted them as our back doors. When my house was being built I paid the builder put another sliding glass door in the master bedroom instead of a window. My uncle in CA has sliding glass doors all along the back of his house overlooking a pool and, to me, that was like paradise... We always planed to turn them into French doors....that was 12 years ago. The cost is one factor and Sam being over scared that French doors can be broken into easier is another. What are you seeing as the overall cost of getting the doors and install?
Oh! I just saw your addition!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your blogiversary!!!!
Three great and not so great years....
I too hope for more beauty for you in the
coming years.
The Masonite doors that we put in are fiberglass.
ReplyDeleteWe have not had them long but we are really happy with them. My husband the engineer, did a ton of research and we looked at tons of doors. One of the things that I was concerned about was the molding on the door itself. I don't like the plastic woodgrain molding. It looks a little better when painted but I could still tell it was plastic. The Masonite doors had a different molding around the glass and it looks much richer.
Congrats on the blogaversary!

Wow, that last part about 3 years just made me go back and look at my own blog...4 years in June!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, where did the time go?
Yes, my friend I hope for you to have nothing but beauty and happiness for the next 3 years and many after that!
XOXO
I'm excited about your French doors!

Congratulations! And the next years will be full of beauty and creativeness! You will love the french doors. It's always good to have a nice project to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteMy mother-in-law recently replaced the french doors in her breakfast with a set from Lowe's. Once they were painted and the plastic removed, she discovered each individual pane was etched with the manufacturer's logo. When she called Lowe's to complain, she was told it is a mandatory safety requirement. It's really noticeable, and not very attractive-I would definitely check on this before buying!
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures! I changed my downstairs windows last month. I chose wood even if it was really difficult to find as everybody in France wants plastic or metal these days. But the biggest advantage of wood according to me is that it can be repainted. I wanted white windows, but if in two years from now, I'm dreaming of blue window, it will be an easy fix. This won't be possible with fiberglass.
ReplyDeleteGood window hunting!
Congratulations on your Blog anniversary! I know how much work they are and when people stop by and rarely leave a comment you wonder why! So! I love the beauty here, keep it up! No steel doors! They dent and rust. Fiberglass all the way, they come in smooth or wood grain to stain or paint. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteWe had these in our last house and we called them garden doors.....
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your blog anniversary!!
We have French doors opening out onto the garden from the dining room. Unfortunately they are not as decorative as the ones you found but they are such a great addition to the house. They let so much light in, they also really bring the garden inside. It's so lovely to throw the doors open on a good day (rarer than you might think in Ireland!). They are perfect for entertaining in the garden...

ReplyDeleteI love the look of French doors because they give off a romantic feeling. The pictures you shared just supported that thought. That said, what material did you finally decide on? -Antonia Johnston @ A&B Siding & Roofing
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those inspiring French doors ideas, Nita! There's something special about French doors that captivates the attention of most homeowners. Anyway, I hope you were able to achieve your desired door style.

The larger the French doors are, the more appealing they get! Though you can install them anywhere, they look best in the interior of the house. By now, you already have a new door, I just hope that you made the right choice.
