Honest Abe

Abraham Lincoln in Decor
I've been noticing Lincoln popping up in decor of late.

It started well before the Stephen Spielberg film
which I finally saw last week with my Mom
Daniel Day Lewis was amazing!
I didn't realize Lincoln's eyes were blue till I googled him after the movie.
I know this photo was colorized but black and white photos show that his eyes were definitely light colored.
This room I've shown before on this blog...notice the early portrait of Lincoln on the wall?
A search of Pinterest led to many quotes by Abraham.
Pillows available on Etsy.
Mark Ryden has used Lincoln in his paintings for a long time now.
Odd, aren't they?
This Steampunk Lincoln cracks me up.
Have you seen this movie? I haven't. But I intend to watch soon.
This guy is a long distant relative of Abe that everyone says looks like him.
This guy is also a long distant relative of Lincoln.
I don't see the resemblance at all in this case.

Interesting to find out that George Clooney is a descendent of Lincoln, isn't it?
I'm a distant relative of Benjamin Franklin.

Are you are distant relative of anyone of historical significance?
Tell me....

And can you find a spot for Honest Abe in your home decor?

  1. This year is the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, and also the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Bill. It has been really big news here in Birmingham, especially since we have the Civil Rights Museum here.

My husband is a direct descendant of Jefferson Davis and Rutherford B. Hayes.

I don't hink I'll be using any of the Lincoln decor in our home....but a Mary Todd Lincoln *something* would be really fun. I love her sense of style! She was over the top in spite of the war. LOVE her!

  2. Great post, Nita. My husband would love if I used a picture of Abe in our decor...he is a history buff and read many books about Abe and Mary Todd. I think I would be more inclined to transfer one of his famous quotes on a framed chalkboard.

  3. Hey, I was told that I'm a descendant of Ben Franklin too - so we're kinda sorta related!!! :)

And I'm supposed to be related to Amelia Earhart too.

  4. I love Abe in the room with the pink sofa. And I love that room period. I couldn't have him in my bedroom.....that would be just weird. Some of those pictures are just too weird. He was so serious and to see him anything but serious just isn't right, is it. I want to see the movie. I haven't heard a single negative comment about the movie.

  8. One of my favorite quotes by Lincoln is "Most people are about happy as they make up their minds to be". I put it on one of my paintings but instead of Lincoln's face it was a black cat with a big grin. (Hmm Imagine that! Hahahaha!)
Weird that you are talking about him because I just rented the vampire film...I'm afraid it wasn't very good but it did enable me to get a lot done while I was watching it!
I think-No, as far as hanging his image in my home. But then again I'm kinda weird because I have Hitchcock hanging in the kitchen at the moment.

  9. Both Abe and Mary are personal favorites for different reasons. I loved this post -- and I do have an engraving of Lincoln in my home already.

  10. how captivating the images are, although i don't think i'm ready to use him as art-he was such a great man with a quick mind, i almost feel it's sacrilegious (?). his image was widely used in the victorian times, however, so it's really no different. what i do love are his quotes and would definitely use any of them all framed up on my wall!

my ancestral claim to faim is daniel boone. woo-hoo...

  12. I love this post! Even more, I love that room with the rose colored sofa. I saw a pair of brass Abe bookends at a local antique store recently...priced at $120! Marked up due to the film's popularity, I assume. (And I'm a descendant of Francis Scott Key, the national anthem guy, weirdly enough! ;)

  14. I love the decor you showed and I would definitely snatch up a Lincoln object at Goodwill if I found one.

Now: My great-great-grandfather, allegedly, murdered the owner of a plantation in Alabama because he was in love with his wife. Does that count?

  17. My hubby is an aficionado of civil war memorabilia so anything Lincoln is sought after, as decor not so much. And we just watched AL Vampire Hunter. and honestly is was not a bad movie, of course the special effects made the movie. Interesting spin on his life and beliefs.
