Open House Sunday

The Greatest House on Earth!!!
So, I searched and searched high and low for a great house to show on this edition of Open House Sunday.
Finally, I came upon this French inspired McMansion in Edmond, Oklahoma.
You know how I feel about McMansions.
I suspect that retired circus performers live here. They do have a love of animal prints in every room.
I understand red zebra is quite rare.
 Endangered, even.
It should not have been used to cover dining room chairs.
A red lacquer piano is fighting the large kidney bean sofa for attention in the living room.
I think the red piano won.
As they say...every room should have some animal print in it. Hence the chairs.
Not just one animal print per room in this house...no.
Lions and Tigers and Bears...oh my!
Bright accent colors of turquoise and red mix with earth tones.
Of course there is zebra in the kitchen.
Only circus performers would want to be surrounded by so many animal prints,
I think.
Yes, if a little zebra is good...then a lot of zebra is even better...right?
Leopard rug too. More turquoise and red.
Luxurious bath for washing off the ol' sawdust.
Relax in the man cave...have a seat on the zebra bench.
The daughter's room has an equestrian purple theme. What no zebra?
more turquoise and red
I was about to have zebra withdrawal. Thank goodness it's back.
A collection of crosses helps your faith when taming large man eating cats.
turquoise and red once more
Finally, the back courtyard does provide a little relief...
from all the pattern inside. But I do believe I spy a little zebra pattern there on the chairs.
The patio would benefit from some plants.
And finally, plenty of room for grazing elephants outback.

So...obviously....I could not find a good house today for Open House Sunday.
Instead I shared this unique one instead.

I do not approve of the decor of this home in any possible way.
I just thought you might enjoy seeing something so bad.

  1. This was/is a joke...right? Well, the old adage holds true...money can never buy taste.

  2. I agree! How can anyone relax in such a home?

  3. I'm not quite sure how anyone could find that house relaxing! It's so frenetic. And if they love turquoise, they need to be looking at the blogs (including yours) that feature it done beautifully.

  4. Oh my... I think I'd get a headache living there - the pictures nearly did me in!!!!

  5. Oh my! I scrolled through the photos repeatedly to take it all in. It's so over the top, but you've got to admire this family - they know what they like, and they're not afraid to go for it. No "cookie cutter decor" for them.

  6. It's stressful to look at, but funny to read about.

  7. I wanted to thank you for this lovely post! Isn't it gorgeous? I've truly been inspired now to redecorate my home! Brown, red, velvet, zebra, grand pianos! I'm in love! I'm hyperventilating in fact!

  10. Hey that's my girlfriend's house! Just kidding...you know I lived in Edmond 23 years. :)

My opinion of the decor is this - yuck!!

  13. Not crazy about it at all, but at least it's not all white, which seems to be the rage right now. Give me color, just not those colors! hahahaha.

  16. It looks like where Cher's tackier sister lives...I mean, I love Cher, but geez, that place is a Vegas safari!

I especially loved the one thing that made it look like actual people lived there, the "Family" cutout on the copper hood in the kitchen.

Thanks for sharing! It was hilarious and inspiring!

  17. You had me a little scared at first, Nita! The only thing I can think to say is at least they saw their vision all the way through. Good luck to the realtor!

  18. Would not have time to paint or craft in that house. But if you had the house ,maybe all you have is time, as you would not have to clean It sure would be fun to haveit Hope your week is good .

  19. Oh my!!! Oh my!!! Wow, that is definitely not what I was expecting from the outside pic of that house! I love your commentary! I needed that good laugh. LOL

  20. Think I see the makings of a bad reality show here. It would be called "Crimes By Design." And each week contestants would compete for top interior design. The loser would be sentenced to 3 nights stay in the Edmond McMansion. I can see it now, some poor cluck saying, "No! Not the McMansion. I'll do anything!"

  21. That isn't at all what anyone would expect. It's times like that I'm sure the realtor wants to call up a moving company. That would take a lot of money to correct. Even paint isn't cheap anymore.

  22. What's left to say - the decor says sooo much. It appears the Mrs. has access to a "designer" and used every awful cheap idea that popped into her head. It is indeed a circus of ideas gone wild. But you know, the owner is probably so sad she is leaving the zoo. An explosion of cheap. ugh

  23. As my mom said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Of course, I rarely listened to my mother. So, with that in mind, I will just reiterate what I have learned from going to upscale neighborhood garage sales: just because people have money, doesn't mean they have good taste.

  24. I can only imagine how the lady of the house dresses.......

  25. What!? And why they are selling it? Perhaps tired of the decor? May be they now prefer pink leopard print?
I pity the poor people to work cleaning this house so non-minimalistic... they work is really unhealthy!
But I admire the personality of the owners, so sure of what they like, and so without any fear of showing their tastes to the world ☉⊙!

  26. Help, my retinas are burning!

  27. Speechless here! Well, almost. Their interior designer must have been Betsey Johnson. Thanks for the laugh!

  28. The most entertaining thing about this tour is the commentary! I cannot help but wonder what the listing agent might have suggested...usually, it's along the lines of "pare it down so visitors can imagine their own furniture here". Clearly an impossibility here.

  29. wow, lucky it's only paint. lol the house has great bones. poor house just has bad owners. lol

  30. Well, Daddy always said an ounce of pretention is worth a pound of manure! I always drove by those fab homes in Edmond imagining amazing interiors and, sadly, being a little jealous. Thanks for curing me!!! lol

  31. This is hysterical! If they weren't circus performers, I'll bet they were homeless people who won the power ball lottery!

  32. Lord, have mercy.

Bizarre doesn't even come close to describing that . . . that . . . frat house for Liberace and Siegfried and Roy.

Words fail me, really. That was as much snark as I could manage, given the OMG nature of the real estate. Someone needs to buy it for the land, I guess; but I'm willing to bet it stays on the market a while.
