For Real
Ready for some original vintage tile goodness?
I spent the weekend helping a friend with an Estate Sale at this house.
This home was built in 1936. It had the same owner from 1953 to the present.
Which is why it has all it's original tile inside.
Which is just the best. All this house needs is some paint and some love.
This home is for sale currently for $150,000.
I took these photos during the sale...so there are lots of things scattered about but you get
the idea of how great it is.
I love these cabinets so much. This is the first home I have seen in my neighborhood or anywhere
in this city with original subway tile. Usually, you see 4x4.
Comes complete with this great vintage stove. Love that.
I wish my house had it's original cabinets.
I like the original wall faucet.
This tile is pristine. Not a crack anywhere.
Next, the master bath is also full of all the original tile. Don't you adore that sweet little built in vanity?
See the soap dishes in the tile? So many times these have been broken through the years.
Here they are as perfect as the day they were set. Original medicine cabinet too.
The sink has been replaced.
If I bought this house...I'd immediately start looking for either a vintage sink
or a new one that looks from the era.
Of course the wallpaper needs to go.
But that's all this bath needs in my opinion.
I wish I could pluck this bathroom out of this house and put it in mine.
Detail of the border tile.
Precious.
This home is a two story or actually...a three story.
You go up a half flight of stairs to the first bedroom and bath and then up another flight
to two other bedrooms.
This phone area is at the second floor stair landing.
I love those scallops in the woodwork.
On the top floor across from the large bedrooms is this green bath.
Again...that wallpaper needs to go but other than that...it's as cute as can be.
All the towel bars and trim intact.
Not a broken tile anywhere.
Perfection.
Complete with hexagon floor and working gas heater.
The marks in the floor tile are clues that this is not the original sink.
The original sink had legs.
soap dish and detail of the border tile
I hope whoever buys this house appreciates all it's original details and enhances them rather
That house is amazing. You're right: the tile is in perfect condition. I hope someone doesn't go in there and gut everything.
ReplyDeleteoh i hope so too. what a shame that would be. the wallpaper in the bathrooms comes across my computer as perfect for the room. i'd leave it too. what a sweet home that someone obv took very good care of. thanks for sharing nita. as always, just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWell, I`m drooling all over myself, lol! This is a dream house and so amazingly affordable.
ReplyDeleteLove it!

It is fun to find a home so intact with it's original vintage charm. At our cottage one of the bedrooms has a sink in it that is original to the 100 year old cottage. A fun post, Laura Cottage and Broome
ReplyDeleteGreat tour! I bet it was full of treasures too. The black & white tile is fantastic. The little listelo tile in the bathroom was cute as can be. Such charm!! Thanks so much for letting us peek.
ReplyDeleteWhat great examples of vintage tile. I'd love to replicate this feeling in my bathrooms when I renovate them.
ReplyDeleteThe built-in is crazy beautiful!
Fabulous house and what an amazing price! This is exactly the sort of place I hope to find my daughter next year when she finishes law school. I was thinking I'd get that wallpaper off of there right before I read your thoughts about it as well :)
ReplyDeleteI would have REALLY liked to attend that sale!!
Love the vintage detail in that house and it is in such perfect shape! The last bathroom reminded me of the house I grew up in..same color tile. Memories!~Hugs, Patti
ReplyDeleteI can't believe not a single tile is broken! Amazing. Is this house in your neighborhood? So charming!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to MOVE IN right now! I absolutely love vintage tile... that kitchen looks just like my grandmother's except her tile was pale yellow with black (instead of white). I wouldn't change a thing except perhaps a bit of wall painting :)

PS and that little nook is just the cherry on top!
This house was a treat to look at. I am amazed no one has ripped it out yet. It really is charming!
ReplyDeleteOh my heart - the vintage Fiestaware. I want it all!!!
ReplyDeleteBack in the day when Builders were thoughtful craftsmen... So lovely!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I am in LOVE! The first home Dan and I had in OKC was off of May and Wilshire - Somerset Road. It had been tampered with but the phone nook was still there!! I love a good phone nook. I sincerely hope the buyers appreciate vintage.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful old house. I hope the person that buys it loves it and doesn't remodel it so much that it loses all of its character. Love it! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to move to OK if I could get that house. Love those bathrooms and built-ins.

It's so great to see how you love vintage and appreciate the charm of it. The tile in this house is beautiful. My parents still have the same kind of tile in their bathroom, just salmon and black instead of green. And yes, the soap and toothbrush holders are still perfect. My mother used to make sure we didn't lean on them! Thanks for sharing, love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome cottage! It has sooo much potential.
ReplyDeletewonderful! I just hope someone does not buy it and say.."lets gut the kitchen and baths" Some things were meant to be left alone, I am drooling over the tile!
ReplyDeleteI wish my cabinets looked that good! Lots of great detail in this house.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
LOVE it! I too hope that the new owners don't destroy the charm and perfection of all the vintage tile. Love the wall faucet!
ReplyDeleteMy sister's home has bathrooms like that! and she also would go crazy for the FiestaWare that you had at the sale!
:D - Cindi
What a sweet house! And the price is GOOD!
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, I would take everything that isn't original and find original pieces from that era. I love the subway tile, it is so beautiful!
Have a great day!
Cindy
Love the phonr nook
ReplyDeleteOh I love this house! not many kitchens and bathrooms are left like this...my husband's office is in a 1930's house...all original except for the appliances. The tile in the kitchen is very much like this one and I cringe when I see granite, marble or cultured stone replacing beautiful old tile work. It seems far more appropriate for these vintage homes and I think it is important to keep it all in character. His office also has the little milk door so the milkman could place the milk bottles inside the house, the fold down ironing board and the telephone niche...all these little details are so charming.

I love, love homes with the original tile. I lived in two different apartments that had the original tile and I never took that for granted! That kind of craftsmanship is missing from so many modern homes.
ReplyDeleteI need for Paper Source to open a store in OKC so I can move into one of "your" houses and have you over for tea! (or cookies)
ReplyDeleteI was there! I bought several things. I didn't see or maybe didn't recognize you from your pic. I loved the architecture of the home. The glass knobs, the tile. I actually went into the bathrooms just to look at the tile up close. I am sure people thought I was weird, but it was so cute! And the vanity! Oh my. Everything was original. I must say I have one complaint...they cleaned it out too much. There wasn't enough junk to go through. I love the old letters, cards, stuff like that. But I did manage to find a few things. This is the second time our paths have cross. First was at the St. Vincent thrift store, which is now CLOSED. :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking such great pics and noticing the little details and appreciating them.
Jess -
ReplyDeleteI tried to email you but no email address. I was in and out on Friday. Not there in the morning at all but there in and out in the afternoon. I was pretty much there all day on Saturday from 9:30am till 5:30pm. Too bad I missed you. The home is being sold by the woman's niece so she had taken out all personal items to keep at her house. Did you see the yellow chairs? Hard for me to resist those.
So sorry Nita, didn't push the "right" button. I am showing the pics to a newly married lawyer. He and his new bride are interested in older homes. Hopefully something will come of.
ReplyDeleteWish I could have met you. Love your pics and blogs.
Hi Nita, what a great house this is. That kitchen tile is amazing. The last house my kids in St.Louis lived in had all original tile. It was so cool. Love all the builtins, too. thanks for linking up to VIF, xoxo
ReplyDeleteSWOON ... I haven't seen a house with original tile this intact in years! Wish I could sell my house here in Dallas (half the size and twice the price, along with outrageous property taxes) and move right in! That's a gem, I really hope the new owner realizes what they have on their hands.
ReplyDeleteSoooooooooooo beautiful.... Oh how I hope the new owners see the beauty too. So often they come in and rip all of this glorious stuff out. I've seen it quite a few times on HGTV. "EWWWWWWWWWW", they'll say, "the tile has GOT to go". So very sad. LOVE, love LOVE that little cabinet with the scallops... Just YUMMY. I so wish I had all of that perfect tile in my little cottage.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Spencer
Love, love, love! Thanks for sharing Nita. Amazing that the tile is all in tact. I've kept all the original tile in our 1939 house, but needless to say, there are broken pieces, but I don't care!
ReplyDeleteLOVE that house!
