July
This month's Yard of the Month went to my very good friend, Wade who
lives just down the street from me.
He decided to attach planters to the sides of his big Maple trees after seeing it
done in Carmel, California once while he was on vacation.
Wade just got a pretty new charcoal colored roof not shown in these photos.
My friend, Wade is not only a gardener but he's a great cook and host. He'll call me up sometimes in the evening and say. "Hey, I was thinking about you and wondered if you wanted to come down and share a bottle of wine and I'll cook salmon out on the grill and a few vegetables. My answer is always, "Yes, I'll be right down...what happened? Did your date cancel on you?" Which he always pretends to be very offended by and says "Do you think I would only ask you down because I was planning dinner for someone else and it fell through?"
To which I answer, "Yes, because I know you. Don't worry, I'm not upset or anything...I'll come right down".
And yes, it usually is because a date fell through at the last minute...but I'm not too proud...I'm not going to miss a nice evening just because I have something as silly as pride.
When I get there, he answers the door handing me a cocktail and saying, "I really have been wanting to see you anyway....this was just a good excuse". Whatever....I don't care. I like spending time with Wade and if it takes his romantic life falling through occasionally for this to happen...it's ok with me.
Dinner always includes something cooked out on the grill, a caprese salad, maybe grilled corn or asparagus or rice pilaf and lots of red wine.
It's always a good time.
The irresistible Caprese Salad
Love your neighbor's yard and what a great idea hanging planters on a tree. I need to do that on my big tree and get some shade loving plants. How nice of him to invite you to eat like that no matter what the reason.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great neighbor, what fun!
ReplyDeleteAbout the loud rug, honestly I love it and the pink sofa and chair. I had a deep fushia rug in my livingroom in the early 80's when all was pumpkin colored, Yuck! It was called Bleeding Heart. I had a white sectional on it and it was stunning! No fear of color here. Keep the rug girl at least till fall. It's a great seasonal rug. Love your taste!
