Oh...Christmas Tree...How I Love Thee
from your tippy top
to your bottom
and everything in between
I went crazy with the icicles and faux snow.
I put clumps of faux snow on each branch.
Lots of drippy, droopy icicles.
And this year...I decided to add the little houses....I'm loving this so much....I need more houses!
Oh.....Ebay!!!!
The base of this tree is a large garden urn bought at Lowe's or Home Depot.
I painted it a creamy white and shabby chic'd it.
It's filled with glass floral pebbles to hold the tree in place.
To keep the tree from moving or tilting at all,
I bought a toilet cleaner brush holder at Walmart the other night.
You just need something long and cylindrical.
A piece of pvc pipe would work nicely or part of a mailing tube.
But I was at Walmart at 2am and I walked the store till I found
a plastic tube that would work.
The toilet brush holder is really just a long plastic cup.
You just have to make sure that your tree stem will fit within the diameter.
You put the cup in the middle of the garden urn and fill all around with glass pebbles.
In the past I've use white landscaping rock too...but the glass pebbles are so much cleaner
and easier to work with.
After your cup is stabilized, put the stem of your tree in and also fill in around it within
the cup with more glass pebbles.
Then I cover the top with cotton batting to resemble snow and sprinkle the sparkling faux snow on top.
The ornaments on this tree all vintage and are mostly Shiny Brite made in the USA dating
from the 1930's through 1950's.
The tarnished glitter snowflakes came from Target last year.
I love them and so hoped they'd have them again this year.
But no.
Did you notice Target's stuff was not very good this year?
Each year I can't wait to see what they will have and it was so disappointing this season.
I always add something to my decor from Target and there was nothing I wanted.
Everything was plastic.
I guess its the economy...but come on...Walmart had better stuff than Target this year.
And I am not exaggerating. Walmart's stuff was very pretty.
The only problem with this tree is that I used a bunch of my ornaments last year to make a wreath.
I thought I'd buy more throughout the year to replace them.
I forgot all about this plan.
So I feel like this tree is a little on the skimpy side...ornament wise....
but that gives me something to work on for next year.
Hey, I'll probably work on it this year...
One of my favorite things to do, once the tree is up
is to add things to it as I find them.
Do you do this?
Especially after Christmas. That week after, I buy stuff on sale and add it to my decor
to enjoy right up till Jan. 1st.
So that wreath...that I used up so many of my ornaments on?
I don't even have a place to hang it.
Right now its hanging behind the tree.
But that is not a good spot.
I hope to hang it soon in the dining room.
Yes....still working towards the dining room furniture being done in time for a Christmas reveal.
And I'll show the rest of the living room soon,
the breakfast nook, kitchen and maybe I'll get some other spots decorated too.

ReplyDeleteWowie! I looooooove it. Looks like a sugar plum fairy tree!
ReplyDeleteBeing one who loves vintage I of course have tons of old glass ornies but when I see them on other blogs I think I have to keep collecting them! It is terrible
But your tree looks awesome!
Hope you have heat!

I love the tree!! All I can say is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI want to live in your tree...I'll pay rent! Yes, I agree Target selection was terrible this year but Walmart had the CUTEST pink ornaments with white glitter Christmas trees on them. I bought these for my daughter (so selfless of me...lol). However, I am probably going to grab a set for myself because I can't stop thinking about them. Love your blog, i'll be back!
ReplyDeleteLicks & Wags, Niki
gorgeous, fabulous, perfect, love it! It is the epitome of a mod vintage tree. And yes, I was very disappointed in Target this year. The only thing I bought for my Christmas decor this year was pointsettias. This year was all about recycling.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Nita, the Putz houses are just right with the glass ornaments. I bought large glass ornaments from Target but they are not your colors. Pretty soon your blog is going to grow beyond your answering questions so I will not ask any about the tree. It is very NITA.
ReplyDeleteNita it is STUNNING!!! Just gorgeous!!! I love how soft, romantic and vintage your tree is~ and such beautiful colors! My Feathered Nest Friday Holiday party is going on right now if you would like to join in another party~ this is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! Everything is SOOO beautiful!!! Winona
ReplyDeleteAhhh, I love your tree! Simply beautiful. I have some vintage ornaments I love, but I display them in a glass jar. I'm afraid if they were on the tree little hands would break them. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSeriously fantastic! Should be in a magazine it all looks so good!
ReplyDeleteLove it all, especially on the white tree! From the pretty topper to the fab vintage ornaments to the great urn that it's in-so pretty:@)
ReplyDeleteMy FAVORITE tree this year. This is absolutely stunning, and I love the urn base. Gorgeous! Merry, merry Christmas to you and yours, Peggy
ReplyDeleteits the most beautiful tree ever!!!!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so beautiful but Walmart at 2 AM? You must live in a really safe area. Everything in your photos were just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHow utterly divine! Love the tree, all the vintage ornies, the icicles, the putz house, the urn, my goodness, I LOVE IT ALL! Beautiful photography, too!
ReplyDeleteHappy PINK SATURDAY!

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Ditto to all of the above. It is so you. I should have just copied your photos instead of a magazine. Yours looks much better! Now, what are you doing at Wal Mart at 2 a.m.? That is scary!
ReplyDeletelovely pink balls and pink lights, all the trees are amazing, sweet pink post.
ReplyDeleteNita, that white tree is just simply stunning! I love all the colors of your vintage ornaments against the white. I could just see you walking the aisles at 2 am at Walmart. It really turned out so well. I love the tinsel. My grandmother always had that tinsel on her tree. I didn't know they still sell it.
ReplyDeletePRETTY!
ReplyDeleteKelly
Nita,
ReplyDeleteStunning! Love all the colors!
Nita,
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable! Your tree looks good enough to eat! It's perfect for your house. The colors are great. A tree can always use a few more ornaments but it looks great the way it is. And that wreath is a work of art!
Happy PS!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tree! It is awesome!
Breathtaking! Love the snow and tinsel and all the lovely ornaments. The white really sets them off, doesn't it? Beautiful photos.. thanks for linking up this treasure!
ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous! I love vintage ornaments and decor. I would be so excited to find the little mica houses like you have! It all reminds me of Christmas with my grandparents!
ReplyDeleteSarah
So stunning! I love the colors and the white tree, perfect vintage. I wish I could have pulled out the large tree this year, but it is not to be! Yours is inspiring.

ReplyDeleteDebbie
This tree reminds me of my grandma, I remember those ornaments on her tree. The houses make it for me tho! Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteI knew I wouldn't be disappointed! Absolutely beautiful! So YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the white tree with those vintage ornaments-really makes the ornaments stand out. Love the urn idea too!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree on the Target selection and yes Walmart did have some better stuff this year. I just couldn't find any white and red striped ornaments this year-the year I want to do a white and red decor. Oh well, maybe next year!
Jody
Love the urn! What a great idea for a tree stand. Your white tree is beautiful. I featured you today on my christmas tree roundup :)

I'm in love with your tree!!! I don't even have mine up yet. I now wish I had a white tree.
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting in anticipation for the tree...you did not disappoint. Since you have so many vintage decorations...with your weenies how do they not end up on the floor...I have one chowweenie and one kitty cat and I come home from work with at least 6 or 7 on the floor each day!
ReplyDeleteSo yummy and fun! Love it!
ReplyDeleteAngie
Your tree is just amazing, I adore the vintage ornaments. The colors are just perfect...turquoise and HONEYSUCKLE! I would love to see it in your room, it must be breathtaking! That's a great idea for the urn stand. I think I'm taking down my tree and starting over. :)
ReplyDeleteNita, you are amazing! I LOVE this tree so much I want to duplicate it and throw away my little green tree. It is simply super!! It is sparkly and pretty and dreamy all in one. I realized that I didn't even finish decorating my big tree...I forgot the topper and I need more ornaments....you always inspire. You would love my mother in law's collection of old ornaments. She has a pink glass tree topper like yours that was HER mothers and my MIL is 82!! So some day I hope that tree topper will be on my tree of course, as I love all things pink like you. It is kind of similar to your topper, is yours old? I will have to take a pic of hers and show you!
ReplyDeleteYour tree is beautiful. Pictures are beautiful. The vintage ornaments are gorgeous. Amazing job.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, I think the Target buyers are working at Walmart this year.
Love your tree! The vintage ornaments bring back wonderful memories. Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteDenise
WHOA! That has GOT TO BE the prettiest tree I've EVER seen! No wonder you love putting it up! Wow! this just MIGHT make me venture into Walmart (I normally hate it but...)
ReplyDeleteI'm just shaking my head, I can't believe how FABULOUS it is. I think you need to write a book about all your creations! (I'd buy so that I could refer to it constantly!)
Well done!
Hey, remember how you could see the shirtless guy in the silver teapot?..........
ROTFL!!!!
tee hee, JUST KIDDING!
XOXO - Cindi
This is the prettiest, most perfectly pink, post I've seen this morning. You really out did yourself and created something gorgeous to share with us. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy Pink Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThis is just an awesome pink post! I love your tree and everything is just stunning! So glad I visited!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love your tree
ReplyDeleteOH...love, love, LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteCan you be in love with a Christmas tree? Well I'm in love with yours:) Thanks for coming to my OPEN HOUSE.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Every thing looks so beautiful, like a fairy land. love the ivory tree with pastels , just great at christmas!!! hugs JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI love your Shiny Brite tree! I have one in my bedroom but in the traditional Christmas colors. It is the last thing I see before I go to bed, and the first thing I see when I wake up. :-) And have to agree with you. Target did not have a nice selection this year. usually they do, but I guess this year their inspiration is more mercury glass than anything. Happy Pink saturday! Angie
ReplyDeleteHoly cats! Is that THE fantasy tree of a lifetime, or what??!!! I am just in heaven!
ReplyDeletem ^..^
I love your tree!
ReplyDeleteI hate to admit this but in 1993 my grandmother passed away. No one "needed" anymore Christmas decorations so we all took 1 orniment as a reminder, okay? And gave the rest away. The rest were all original 1940-1950s decorations-- just like these! I kills me now. I knew I should be a packrat!!!
Happy PS!

"Do these shoes match this purse?"
This tree is heavenly!!! Every inch of it is dreamy. I adore the idea of the little houses in the branches. I may have to borrow that one!!! I also love vintage ornaments and use them on my tinsel treet.
ReplyDeleteAnn
Your tree is fabulous. It's the pefect mix of new and old, modern and vintage. I am so envious of your vintage ornament collection! Ornaments do not last long at my house- the cats think they are there for them to pluck off the tree and play with. My mom has a great collection, little houses nested in her tree too. I have to remember to take pictures of her tree...You are so clever with the urn too for the base. I am already thinking of containers my tree might fit into...Can't wait to catch up on reading your blog! Hope you're having a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteOh Nita, I could curl up under your tree and dream of sugar plum fairies...so beautiful. thanks so much for linking up with VIF!
ReplyDeletexo,
Debra
The vintage ornaments are so wonderful! I have one (yes, I said one) Shiny Brite ornament from my Nana. It is the only ornament I have from her and it is very special to me. To have a whole tree of them would be divine!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting me and for your sweet compliments! We actually didn't have to alter our tree at all...it is a Noble, native to the Northwest, and grown by my father-in-law on his tree farm. I think it's the prettiest one we've ever had! I still love the look of a faux tree though, especially ones like yours with a vintage look and it would be wonderful to not have needles to clean up off of the floor! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Amanda

Hello,
ReplyDeletewho could not love this tree. That is a way to bring all the colored ornaments to their very best. I had not thought that a white tree can be sooo pretty. Great job and I love all your nice ornaments, too.
Greetings, Johanna

LOVE the tree! Its gorgeous, and looks so soft and cozy! And you used tinsel! I havent seen tinsel since the 70s!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say one thing- I LOVE YOUR TREE!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that someone actually has a Shiny Brite tree! I can't even tell you how many of those ornaments are still in my parent's Christmas boxes. I intend to put dibs on them as my sisters and I clean out their house in the coming months. (Mom died in '03, Dad this last August.) And the little houses! My mother had a collection of about six or eight, with bottle brush trees. She had an oval mirror, and some tiny metal people/skaters; she would set them up as a village and skating pond on a bed of cotton (snow).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the trip down memory lane! Your tree is charming, very pretty, and wonderfully personal.

If I didn't have a fair amount of vintage and shiny brite ornaments myself, I'd think you cornered the market. I love them so much.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just want to keep them out all year and look at them?
I did a few blog posts with my rooms, you can see the latest here:
http://sylviacook-inspirations.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-star-bokeh-free-texture-layer.html
Your white tree with the "candy like" shiny brite ornaments is breathtakingly beautiful. I have always been drawn to the shiny brites and have quite a few but love them on a white tree with the tinsel. (can't have it at my home because of the cats). I live in OKC and just came across your blog today and saw you live in Edgemere. Lovely neighborhood...you are a lucky girl! (even though you hate your black applicances..:)
ReplyDeleteI think this is the prettiest tree I have seen all year!
ReplyDeleteJust came over from Cottage Instincts. Your tree is amazing!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! It is so festive and cheery!
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is one beautiful tree.
ReplyDelete-Trish
You certainly urned it too! Just love it! You're the best!

Love it!! A girl after my own heart <3
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
The prettiest tree I've seen this year! Love love love it!!~Ames
ReplyDeleteNita that tree is just ooohh la la! If only I had girls... but alas, I've got 3 boys, a husband and a male dog too... so the pink tree just wouldn't fit in right now! But I would do it for sure if I had a separate room for it. Just love it. I'm going to follow your blog. Maybe you can swing by and visit my blog and consider following me back.

I continue to be in awe of this blog (***I'm not worthy***I'm not worthy***I'm not worthy...:D) Seriously, we may have some separation at birth issues...I did a Christmas tree this past year that was eerily similar to this. Your photos are lovely. P.S. Thanks for signing on to follow my blog "My Suburban Utopia." really appreciate it! I am new to the blogging community. I realize after looking at your blog, though, I need pictures!!!!!
