Fall Container Gardening

Just a little inspiration for Fall container gardening.

I'm making stuff here and working....
show and tell coming soon.

Remember when I found this piece of furniture off Craigslist to use as
a kitchen island?
(bad Craigslist photo)
I took the fold up ends off and added wheels and
it lasted in my kitchen about a month.
I kept having to roll it out of the way.

I went looking for a photo of it and realized I never took one.

I never showed it because I just wasn't happy with it.

It is now being used as a tv stand in the guest bedroom.

But this week I thought of the perfect solution.
It wasn't wrong... it was just too big. Even though it was small...it was still to big for my kitchen.
I needed a really small and square island for my galley kitchen.
You'd think I needed rectangular but no....what I needed was square.

So I found a smaller piece of furniture at the most frugal place ever...my house!
I don't know why it never occurred to me to try it before.

I'll show soon...because I'm making it taller and adding a top to it and I do think
this time
it will be just the perfect island.

I almost bought cabbages and pumpkins today for my urn outside...
but instead ended up getting stuff for my island.

I have too many projects going.
I'm painting the living room and dining room, recovering an ottoman, creating a kitchen island,
making cloth pumpkins, painting a dog portrait and creating a Halloween craft for
Jo-Ann's Fabric and Craft Stores.

I need to focus....just focus on one thing at a time.
How Frustrating!

Mod Mix Monday #120

Super Pretty!
I really like this space.
I am finally painting my living room and dining room white.
Much like this.
If I didn't have to work this week...it would be done in a couple of days.
But since I have to work...I'm hoping to get it done some time next weekend.
Of course deciding to paint the rooms has led me to think I need to change quite a few other things.
But I can tell you right now...I'm super excited about the new color in my house.
Or rather having less color.

For you see...
I have not been showing my living room and dining room much here because I just was so
over the wall color.
I was tired of all of it. I had grown to hate it.
Last year, I didn't even want to put up my Halloween or Christmas because I just didn't
want to see it all again with the yellow walls.

I think this new wall color will give me a new lease of life.
Yes, indeed color can change your life.
Or at least I'm sure it will change mine.

Now on to Mod Mix Monday....so much good stuff this past week.
Ethereal Plus What I Love gave us a tour of her living room.
It's such a pretty space, all of it.
But I was struck by how casual this chair looked with the addition of the ruffled slipcover.
Notice the pillow? Isn't it something? A cute something!
Oh...I'd like it with a couple of weenies on it.
Tanya of Twelve O Eight created this cute chalkboard for Halloween.
She used a new product that will turn anything into a chalkboard.
Oh...this has me thinking!
I love the crow perched on the frame.
Homecoming painted a little tray with pink stripes.
It's just perfect for her home. Super cute.
Rachel of Maison de Pax took a rather plain mirror and turned it into this fabulously
distressed antique number. She just added strips of molding, painted and distressed it.
I won't be looking at big cheap mirrors in the same way ever again.
I definitely need one of these.
Little pumpkins all in a row.
Michele of Sew Sweet Vintage made these cute little chenille pumpkins.
Aren't they sweet? And easy to make too.
Karen of Some What Quirky Design dried the last hydrangeas of the summer
and composed a beautiful fall mantel with them.
Oh...the colors in this are amazing. And notice the old gas heater parts included.

As usual an amazing assortment of projects.

Share your new mixes below.
Remember anything old made over to be new...anything new changed up to look old.
New and old together...

Open House Sunday

Spanish Sunset
 built 1926
Oh...I do love a little spanish cottage.
You don't see many of them around here but they have lots of them in California which is where this one is.
There are so many special things about this one, I couldn't resist showing.
This photo shows lots more details but makes it readily apparent how important professional photos are.
Those first two photos are stunners.
I love the big front patio.
Here we are back with photos taken at the magical part of the day. Sunset.
Oh...I love bougainvillea! So wish it would survive here year round.
Aren't those yellow pillows pretty on the white furniture?
They just make the room!
 Isn't that huge window nice?
I love how light and bright this house is.
Here's a news flash.
I'm painting my walls just about this color.
Sherwin Williams Shoji White
I started painting Saturday morning.
I won't have a day off for awhile so it may be a week or two before it's done but I think I'm going to really like it.
I love those serpentine column details to the door arches.
I'm doubting that the fireplace is original.
Very modern furniture in the dining room.
I really think this room would be better with a chandelier.
Modern furniture in the breakfast nook.
 Very nice galley kitchen.
No complaints from me here about the kitchen except that it might be a little boring.
I could cook in this space.
Love the faucet and subway tile.
Yes, I could cook on one of these.
Matching hood over the stove...of course.
Now this is dreamy....french doors leading from the master to the backyard.
Bathroom is full of marble, penny and subway tile.
That tub looks vintage. I wonder if it is?
 Another pretty bathroom.
The backyard is a little boring Oh..wouldn't it be fun to create a beautiful outdoor area?
 Lovely tile steps
Here we are back at that magic time of day that makes the house glow warmly.
 Such a pretty California Cottage.
