July Yard of the Month

In Edgemere Park
I almost forgot I had the July Yard of the Month to share with you.
It was selected way back in early June so I completely forgot I had taken these photos.
This home was painted country blue when I first saw it eight years ago, including the rock.
The owners who bought it about seven years ago painted over the blue
and took on the arduous task of removing paint from all the sandstone trim.
It went from being a so so house to an impressive one.
I love the variety of plants they have in their front beds.
Lots of different colors and textures.
Notice the nice iron trim around the front raised patio and the iron gate to the side too.
More variety on the other side.
They still had pansies...as I said..it was early June when these photos were taken.
Boxwoods line the cinder block fence.
I'd be tempted to grow ivy all over this fence.
Backyard gazebo includes a large gas heater making it useable much of the year.
Here one of their pooches sniffs around. She is a lab mix rescue and super super sweet.
Their other dog is a funny little pug.
And here we are back out front. They have a porch swing!
You don't see those much in my neighborhood.
We had one at my house when I was a child and I really enjoyed it.
Till my sister hurt herself on it too many times and down it came.

That was pretty much the story of everything like that at our house.
We had a big swing set but my sister hurt herself seriously on it twice.
The first time Dad threatened.
The second time...he went out and pulled it up with the tractor.

I really didn't care....I was over it. I never played on it
and honestly my sister didn't play on it right...she always played in a manner that
was going to get herself killed.

Oh...Mom was mad at Dad but I think he was right.
She'd broken her arm....and he let it go and then she broke off her two front teeth
and that was it!
It was gone!

But I really would have liked to have had my porch swing back.

Have a Happy Saturday and if you have a porch swing....enjoy!

Open House Sunday

Decorating in Wild Abandon!
built 1926
This tudor cottage is the home of an interior designer.
I'm in love with the home from first site of the landscaping.
Inside is a wild cottage mix of colors and textures.
Many wonderful things in this home.
Perhaps too many wonderful things but lots to look at.
I believe the fireplace is tiled in a mosaic of broken china.
color and pattern abound
glasses in jewel colors fill the shelves of the built in bar
Amazing Italian glass chandelier highlights the bits of turquoise in the room.
Many colorful carpets fill this home.
I've never thought about hanging a painting in a window but it works here.
more brick a brack
The person that decorated this home is not afraid of anything it seems.
It's wild abandon in decorating!
Love the marble counters mixed with hand painted cabinets.
The cabinets certainly look old world but appliances are certainly new.
Colorful carpets even in here.
Love the old log used as a mantel on this fireplace.
Love the beadboard ceiling too.
Why not a little zebra up the stairs?
This fireplace is very unusual.
Many things in this home, I've never seen before.
Even the bathroom has atmosphere with those sconces over the tub.
The touches of red are nice.
A child's room under the eaves.
Another pretty bedroom in what used to be attic space.
Interesting screen behind the bed.
Another embellished bath
I love the choice of pillows used on this outside bench.
A patio full of fun outside.
I'm crazy for those pagoda umbrellas.
You can get them at Pier 1.
A precious garden
What do you think of this cottage?
It is over the top...isn't it?
It's too much for me to live in but I guarantee I'd like the person that designed it and lives here.
There is fun in it's decor.
I love the wide variety of items in this place.
I'm sure she must be interesting.

Open House Sunday

built 1935
This home came up for sale last week in my neighborhood.
But I think it may already have sold or at least the sale is pending.
Houses are selling fast these days in my neighborhood.
I've long admired this home but never been inside.
I love the trio of arched windows.
I wish my own cottage had them.
I added large cement urns to my front pedestals after seeing these on this house.
Although mine are larger.
Love that it has a door with a speakeasy.
Very unusual arched ceiling. This is the first one I've seen like this.
But...those curtains are terrible. They detract from what is great about this room.
The windows and the ceiling. I'd love to see this room without them.
I like that big tufted ottoman. I'm surprised to see there is a wood mantel in this house instead
of the usual art tile fireplace you see in these houses.
Again, the unusual arch shape carries through to the dining room.
Love those arches...oh...those curtains are so distracting.
The kitchen has been redone. It's nice but I like a kitchen that looks more vintage.
Not crazy about the floors...hardwood would be better.
Take some of those cabinet doors off too and it would make the kitchen more interesting.
Obviously the wall came down between the kitchen and the breakfast nook.
Cute little banquet.
Soothing bedroom
And a den
This is a great spot to watch tv and enjoy a fire.
The hall has a rounded corner on one wall. I love those.
Enclosed sunroom on the back of the house.
Oh...my dogs would have a good time out here and I'd have a good time decorating it.
Obviously it is not being used at its full potential here.
A unusual garage with what looks to be a little apartment or at least storage.

I have a couple of people that read this blog that have asked me to
email them when a good house comes up for sale in my neighborhood.
I emailed both when this one came up but did not hear back from either.

I wonder if anyone I know snapped this baby up.

Here's the full listing.
