Halloween Jewelry

Vintage Halloween Necklaces
I adore these Halloween necklaces created by
Debra at
Most Halloween jewelry is cheesy but these are elegant.
Debra has a fantastic blog too with a weekly link up party that can't be missed.
At least I never miss it....
Here are a few samples of other jewelry she has designed.
You see...she has a thing for keys
and religious charms.
This is the necklace I bought from her a few weeks ago.
Love it!

Old Silver

and a Surprise!
I decided my kitchen needs a mini makeover.
(oh...it needs a major makeover but I can only afford a mini one)
This involves me putting away my vintage pastel colored mixing bowls
and putting out silver instead.
But...I don't have enough silver things to do this.
So over the past few months, I've been acquiring a few pieces here and there.
(they have to be inexpensive as I am so poor at the moment)

Last night I won an auction on Ebay for this silver plated pitcher.
It's a vintage pool tournament trophy from 1938 (cool).

After winning it (only $5 - thank you very much)...
I thought...hmmmm...I wonder if this seller has any more silver I'd want?
I found this.
Huh? Yikes!
This is a nice piece but you can see the photographer in the reflection and he's not wearing a shirt.
This made me feel dirty.
And made the object not as desirable.
I have to say I did go through all his other auctions just to see what else I might see in the reflection.
I imagined there might be a whole porn moment going on there.
Then, I noticed in the pitcher I bought, that it looks like he's not wearing pants.

Talk about subliminal messages....is this why I couldn't resist bidding on it?
How sick am I that I went through all his other auctions to see what else I might see?
I imagined....the next sugar bowl might have a naked woman entering the room....
the next, a scantily clad plumber rings the doorbell...
You get the idea.

I wonder if this guy realizes that his shirtless body is being seen all over Ebay?

I just thought it was weird and had to share.

Mercury Glass

Magnificent Obsession
A couple of weeks ago on my birthday, I spent the day with my friend Deidra who knowing me...suggested we spend the day shopping. We headed to TJ Maxx where she found this large mercury glass candle holder which I am currently using as a flower vase. It was her birthday present to me. She said I didn't need it as I have so much mercury glass already but she also knows how I can't pass up a bargain when it comes to mercury glass. Every piece I own has been bought on sale...and were just too good a deal to pass up. Plus I love it so.

I actually, have more of the stuff - large bowls and more candle holders. And I'm still on the lookout for more. I can't stop myself. I just love everything about it.

Remembering Tata...

Thanks to Ebay

I bought this little statue off of Ebay a couple of years ago. She's vintage....I have really no idea how old she is...but she reminds me of my Tata. Tata was my maternal Grandmother. She was in college during the roaring twenties. She met her future husband while doing theater at Northwestern in Chicago.

My mother had a photo of her from this time of her life...and she looked just like this little statue when she was young. At least twenty years ago, I saw this same little statue in an antique store here in Oklahoma City but it was done in bronze. At the time...it reminded me of Tata instantly...I wanted it badly but could not afford it and had to walk away.

Then a couple of years ago, I'm browsing Ebay and think...I'll look at art nouveau statues. I had never looked for this statue any where...I assumed I'd never find it again. So that day, I look up art nouveau statues which I never did and there she was except this time in this lovely silver finish.

I couldn't bid fast enough. I just love Ebay....don't you?

I think of Tata every time I look at her.

Can you tell me about a happy Ebay find story of your own?

I have many....but this one seemed divine.

Be Still My Heart.....

It's only Home Accessories for Goodness Sakes!

I just discovered this...

I think this is just about the most perfect kitchen and sitting room imaginable.

I didn't know about this catalog of delights till today.

Did you know about this company?

I absolutely love the lamp above. It's similar to one I created. See it here - lamp. Mine was free except for the cost of paint and fabric to cover the shade.

This one below is expensive...but it's beautiful....a great inspiration.

look at this shade below...that might inspire the next shade I create.

I'm a sucker for anything mercury glass....

Love this little urn lamp too.
Is that chicken wire over the shade? Nice effect!

and this one....

This one looks to be covered in barnacles...like it was at the bottom of the sea for decades and then washed upon shore.

Lots more goodness in the pages of this online catalog.

Tell me...did you already know about Aidan Gray?

Spring Has Sprung!

I got out my special Easter Salt & Pepper shakers today. I found these at an antique store several years ago. Today, I thought...where are my egg shakers? I feel spring in the air...they need to be out!

Notice how nice the photo is? Yep, I used my new camera. I got it two weeks ago but I didn't know that we were going to start a new radio station at work, which went on air last night at midnight. So all my personal blogging stuff went out the window while I worked on graphics and promotions for the new station.

Today I took a bunch of photos around the house...so that I'll have them to post this coming week. The new station is also why I haven't finished my mirror bathroom project. I've just had no time. But hopefully, this week or next weekend.

I did go outside and shoot proof that Spring is definitely on it's way.

Got to get a new hummingbird feeder too...the hummers are headed this way. I checked out the hummingbird migration map and supposedly they'll be here end of March. A friend of mine, Lee who got me started with the littler hummers last year...found a guy who builds hummingbird houses...so I need to get one or two of those too so they'll live in my yard this year and not just come over to dine.

This map shows when they arrived last year. Check out when they'll arrive in your area at

Observation:
Hummingbirds don't like weenie dogs...they fly away when the weenies come out. But...weenies are totally oblivious to hummers....they think they are insects and pay them no mind. They have too much to worry about with the squirrels and the cat that lives next door to pay any attention to the little hummers. I wish the hummers would catch on to this.

Since it's spring or almost...it's time to put on my CD player....

This CD is just the sound of birds chirping and the sounds of outside. I love it. It's frowned upon by all the guys in my office though when I take it to work and play. They say it's definitely, not cool. But I'm not trying to be cool, so that's fine with me. And it drives the weenies crazy...they think there are birds in the house. On parts of the CD you can hear church bells...this CD sounds like Easter morning.

I was inspired to have this CD after eating at a restaurant in Atlanta on the patio surrounded by beautiful flowers and colored patio lights and the sounds of birds chirping everywhere. I told the waitress I loved hearing all the birds chirping (they actually had a few birds in bird cages around). That it was amazing, that they had so many. She laughed and said..."Oh that's a CD we play of birds singing". Brilliant! I thought and I went searching for one immediately. At the time...I lived in an apartment and had a small screened in porch that I'd decorated with pastel patio lights and plants and I'd go out there and put my Songbirds of Spring CD in the player and chill.

Since moving to Edgemere Park...I can walk outside and sit on my deck and hear the birds chirping and church bells ringing every day for real. Still I play this CD in the early spring before all the birds have arrived here.

I'm in the mood for Spring!
