Succulents

The Easiest to Grow
This succulent is especially easy to care for because it's fake!
I shared them yesterday included in my St. Patty's Day Decor.
They look and feel just like the real thing...and no care what-so-ever!
I just stuck a few in some foam in a silver bowl, covered it with spanish moss and called it done.
Succulents look amazing in silver containers such as this mercury glass.
Lots of silver containers.
I've got several little silver containers I'd like to put succulents in and I think the faux variety
are the perfect choice as I really don't want soil and water in my silver.
Very nice in a birdcage too.
Another in mercury glass. It's very special...isn't it?
Simply elegant
I added some succulents to the windowsill in my kitchen too.
These are also faux!
I bought this little long serving dish at Pier 1 recently.
I've had my eye on it for awhile. It's perfect for serving appetizers but I knew it would be
perfect as a tray to catch water overspill from plants growing on my windowsill in the kitchen.
I plan to put a few pots of herbs here....but...then I found these little pots of faux succulents
and thought...they'd do for now.
I actually think I might go back and get several more of these long serving dishes to put in other windows around the house.
How many times have I wished I could put an african violet in the window without worrying about
overspill?
This little tray is just the thing.
Pretty and serviceable.

If you are looking for faux succulents by the stem, Hobby Lobby has lots of variety.
The best selection of real succulents I've seen was at Greenhouse Nursery in Norman, Oklahoma.
I saw lots there last summer. I don't know what their selection is at the moment but I'd bet they will
have plenty in a couple of months.

I really want to do some outside plantings of succulents this spring/summer.
I'll be making a trip to Greenhouse soon for sure.

Are you making all your outdoor garden plans?
Mine is going to start with a big clean up.
Lots of trimming to do and beds to clean out.

Since I had my sewer line repaired a large part of my backyard is red dirt now.
This means Franklin is getting daily baths.
He is not happy about this. He tolerates it well...but does not understand why he is being
singled out for baths.
The other dogs have the good sense to stay out of the red mud.

Puppies!
I just love em...in spite of having to give that Franklin a daily bath.

Silver Spice Rack

Finally
I finally changed all my spices over to matching glass jars.
When I went to search my files to see when I'd first posted about this spice rack
I made from silver casserole servers, I was shocked that I'd done this project back in June.
This is how it looked back then.
I searched all over for glass spice jars and finally settled on salt and pepper shakers
I bought at Target.
I covered the holes in the top of the shakers with clear packing tape on the inside.
I just cut a square of it to go over the holes.
Much better, don't you think?
I made the labels on my computer, printed, cut them out and covered with
clear packing tape making them water proof.
This was really a simple project. I would have had it completed long ago if life hadn't
gotten in the way and if I'd found the bottles sooner.

This project started with the silver serving pieces I found at a thrift store.
A little wood made the shelf I attached in the middle.
The small molding piece is from Michael's Crafts and the small piece of wood that makes the actual shelf came from Lowe's.
They have tiny pieces of wood...who would have thought?
I used tiny tiny nails and wood glue to attach the molding to the edge of the wood plank.
Then painted all with metallic silver paint and then rubbed on a bit of black paint.
The shelves turned out looking just like the actual servers - like tarnished silver.
I attached the shelf to the server in two different ways.
The bottom shelf I was able to attach using very small screws that went through the fret work of the silver tray and into the shelf.
But the smaller tray...the fretwork was covered where I needed to attach.
So, I drilled two small holes through the shelf and wired it in place.
Both ways worked equally as good.
I love having my spices easily accessible and it's pretty too.

Silver for Thanksgiving

Rough Elegance
Isn't this just the perfect Thankgiving table?
I love the mix of the antique chandelier with the rustic table just off a dreamy white kitchen.
This would be the perfect silverware for the above setting.
And a sideboard filled with this.
I can't get enough of silver trays.
Which reminds me back this summer before my life went haywire,
I'd just bought a new silver tray for the kitchen and I've never shown it in its spot.
I have held off on showing it because I made the silver tray spice rack
see below...
but I've been searching for the perfect spice bottles and I finally found
them last night!
So upcoming post very soon with my new tray and my spice rack full of it's new bottles.
In the meantime....

Old Silver Trays

Thrift Store Goodness
I bought these silver plated casserole trays a few weeks ago at a local thrift store.
I love the detail of the legs on this one.
I had several ideas of different things I could do with them.
So many actually, that I'm on the look out for more.
I bought a little wood at Lowe's and tiny wood trim at Michael's and came up with this.
I made a tiny shelf out of the wood and painted it silver with a little black glaze.
It totally looks like metal now.
I attached the little shelves to the fretwork of the frame with tiny screws.
I hung them using picture frame wire. I kind of have a thing for picture frame wire.
I like the look of it all twisted around the legs.
I've never had a spice rack my whole adult life.
I'm always digging through the shelves trying to find the spice I need.
I won't have that problem any more.
Only problem with this is I need pretty bottles for all my spices.
So now I'll be on the look out for them. I like the Archer Farms (Target) bottle.
But some how I only have one spice in that kind of bottle.
Anyone have any suggestions where I can get some really great spice bottles?

My new spice rack would really be pretty with all matching bottles and labels.
I wanted to wait to show till I'd done that...but who knows how long it will take me to
acquire them.
So you'll just have to imagine what it will look like with pretty bottles all in a row.

**UPDATE**
I filled glass salt and pepper shakers with all my spices and put them in the spice rack.
So much better.
