Rose Cottage

Victorian Cottage in Eureka Springs, Arkansas
This cottage is in the latest issue of Country Living.
I opened the pages of this month's issue and was just enamored with this little cottage.
Look at those turquoise floors!
I'm sure you can see why I'm in love with this place.
That turquoise dining table!...so sweet
The mint colored kitchen hutch?...oh...my...precious.
A window seat with big romantic pillows.
The arch windows are amazing.
I love how the woodwork is painted white but the mullions are stained wood.

I love the way this has been styled too. Probably can thank Country Living for that.
I love an unstructured kitchen. A kitchen where there aren't typical kitchen cabinets.
That sink is so great....so big...so long...and what about it's legs?
The little green cabinet is so nifty too.
And how about those walls?
More chippy furniture.
You would think that that floor would not work with that wall...but it does!
Just look at these walls! Scrumptious patina!
The arched window is the perfect backdrop for the bed.
Perfect styling.
A little room under the gable. It's beautiful in its simplicity.
I need that waste basket.
I just realized after looking at this...that I need a mirror on the porch!
Of course!
I don't have a spot for one but it sure brings the outside to the other side of the porch.
This is the little shed behind the house.

You can see more and read all about it at
Country Living

You can rent this cottage!
Check out the website for it.

There are more photos of the cottage on the website.
It's interesting to see the differences between these photos and the Country Living styled photos.

Most of the furniture and accessories are the home owners but seems that
Country Living simplified and of course took photos at the best angles.

Let's compare...

as styled by Country Living
The actual room. The home owner has wonderful things.
But Country Living simplified it.
The addition of the basket at the end of the bed is a real improvement.
Crisp white bedding makes for a very inviting bed.
That little metal table in the foreground got moved to be a bedside table.
I wonder if the homeowners kept the changes.
I would have!
This photo makes me realize I really like non matching bedside tables instead of matching.

I just love the whole look of this place.
I want to book a weekend to stay there...right now!

Have you been to Eureka Springs?
It's a little Victorian Village in the mountains of Arkansas.

I've been there and had a wonderful stay but it's been a long time.
I so want to go there again soon!

Open House Sunday

Victorian Cottage
in Sonoma, California
built 1875

This precious black and white victorian is full of quirky victorian details
with a modern sensibility.
See...quirky!
Huge clock...taxidermy peacock on a stick.
The peacock is gorgeous...but I could not live with any taxidermy.
I love how big the clock is. It came from a french train depot.
 Cute chairs.
We have some that exact shape at Pier 1.
They'd need to be recovered to look like these, however.
Sarah...the mistress of the home had the walls spray painted by an artist with
washes of creamy hued paint.
I like the variation in the color on the walls.
It slightly changes from room to room.
The 1940's stove came with the house.
She added the hood and the Heartland refrigerator.
The cabinets are painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Gray.
Isn't this an interesting kitchen? Wish I had that stove...oh yes I do.
Lovely breakfast area.
Custom cut mirrors fill an antique window creating a fabulous floor to ceiling mirror.
Above the children's bed hangs a vintage Circus poster.

Open House Sunday 37

Eclectic Cottage
This little cottage I found on Country Living's website.
It's full of nice details.
I'm loving the blue ottoman and all the lilacs.
A cupboard stuffed with oddities.
See? Oddities.
fresh displays of old familiar things
the hip bar cart so prevalent these days
What do you think about the repeating "Last Supper" paintings on the wall?
I think it's pretty genius. Oh...the time I spent staring at that painting during church
when I was a kid. I'd sit and watch the clock and see how long I could hold my
breath and stare at the "Last Supper", till my Dad would thump me in the
temple with his forefinger. Which meant he was watching me and I needed to cut it out.
My Dad had eyes on the side of his head during church.
But I remiss....I like that chandelier with all the little souvenirs clipped to it.
cute porch and I like the moose head
austere bedroom but quaint
How could you not like a country bathroom complete with white paneled walls and
Chairman Mao? His eyes follow you while you bathe.
Word
And this room had me at doxies.
This sleeping porch is really why I'm showing this house.
The perfect spot to curl up for a Sunday afternoon nap with puppies.

Have a pleasant Sunday!

Small Cottage

Big Ideas
This small 1930's 1,000 ft bungalow looks big and expensive
because of the way it's decorated.
Lizzie Carney, the owner painted all the walls a custom dark charcoal
and the floors a light gray.
The dark charcoal paint on the walls actually makes the rooms look larger
and creates a dramatic statement.
The whole home is painted this color which also makes it feel bigger.
I love the turquoise refrigerator she bought at an El Paso flea market
and the modern bar stools from IKEA mixed with all the antique stuff.
The chandelier came from Belgium and the island is from Euro Trash
It incorporates parts from an antique sideboard.
Ms. Carney works as a designer/stylist for import firm Euro Trash.
This photo makes me wish I had a basement.
She turned her basement into a wine cellar slash dining room.
Stacked Belgian grape-gathering crates filled with wine line the walls.
Doesn't this look so chic?
This house only has two bedrooms. This is the master, simply stunning.
The comforter is from Anthropologie.
The second bedroom, she turned into a closet.
This is totally what I need to do with my second bedroom.
I need closet space so much more than I need a second bedroom.
