Mod Mix Monday #197

 via
I love this kitchen! Isn't that green cabinet fun? Talk about a one of a kind kitchen!
It's just so quaint and pretty.

So I'm back with Mod Mix Monday...very late...but better late than never...I suppose.
And there were soooo many good things in the last Mod Mix Monday that I have lots of faves.
Here we go!
Look at the color in this outdoor table scape from Pam at Everyday Living!
Jamie of So Much Better with Age shared a cute sign she has hanging in her
shall I say elegant laundry room.
Wow! I love this room.
Vickie at Ranger 911 shared some changes in her living room.
Darrielle of DD's Cottage shared some pretty vignettes from around her house...
but this was by far the prettiest.
Her dog lounging in the living room.
Angie of Postcards from the Ridge shared her dining room and the blue touches in the living room.
This room makes me SMILE just like the pillow says.
Summer flowers from Jan at Just Jan Blog
Cecilia of My Thrift Store Addiction took a risk and painted her stove the prettiest shade
of green and it was a huge success!
She was inspired by the vintage looking stoves made by Big Chill that cost over $5000.
I have drooled over those stoves myself. I'll be anxious to hear how this paint job holds up.

Roof Top Gardens

How is your summer going?
Mine is full of work and not much fun.
I'm working on a freelance design project at the moment which is why the blog has been lacking.
It should be done soon and I'll be back.
I always forget that just about the time I get my back deck looking nice...it gets too hot to enjoy it.

I didn't have time to go through all the Mod Mix Monday entrees so I'll just do it next week.
Hopefully, next week will be more under control as far as my time.
But for now..let's imagine what it would be like to spend some time in one of these roof
top gardens, shall we?
I love the dark floor and dark doors in that one above.

This one I'm sure is in New York City as it came from Martha.

How charming is this? Lots of roof top gardens. This makes me think how fun would it be
to fly over my own neighborhood and view everyone's backyard gardens from the air?
 via
This one is super elegant!
 via
Then this one includes everything but the kitchen sink! It's exquisite!
 via
I'd love to see the apartment this garden is above!
Love that arbor with the built in chases below.
Many good ideas in this roof top garden to incorporate into a backyard garden too.
I love that tree in the huge pot!

In spring I always wonder why I get in such a hurry for summer to end...and then we hit
those high 90's and higher days and I remember why we get anxious for fall.
Our best summer days are in the fall!

Mod Mix Monday #196

 via

Loving all these bright pastels!

Thanks to all that wrote expressing concern over my post July 4th blues.
Not to worry it's nothing super serious...but I do go into a funk after the 4th every year.
It makes me feel like summer is ending although I know it's just starting.
It stems from childhood.
My Mom taught school and the 4th is when she started talking
about getting ready for the new school year.
She would go back the first week in August. My Dad hated it when she went back.
But she had to go back. They both had to work. And she wanted to work.
But school came first before everything else and we all felt it.
And now...as a middle aged adult...I still can't get over that feeling of dread that
the summer is ending...even when it doesn't effect me at all any more.

But all of you seem to be having a great summer! Just look at the things you are creating!
Sarah of Edea Smith made a very pretty display using a vintage window.
Karen of Somewhat Quirky Design shared this headboard that she painted in a fabulous way!
You'll be amazed by all the gorgeous flowers growing in Priscilla's front yard!
Darrielle of DD's Cottage gave a little look of her home. This is her newly done vintage bath.
I love everything about this!
Mary of Orphans with Make Up painted this little vanity and added some extra special details.
I'd love to sit at this to do my makeup each morning!
And finally look at this media center Kris of Junk Chic Cottage created to house her
60 inch tv!

Open House Sunday

Renovated Tudor in Edgemere Park
 built 1929
You know how sometimes you have a favorite house that you drive by all the time
and you think you'd love to live there if it could ever be your's?
You wish to see the inside to see just how heavenly it truly is?
Well, that is what this house has been for me for a long time.
It was one of the first houses I fell in love with in my neighborhood.
But I never saw the inside. I loved those front french doors that lead you into the middle of the house.

I soon realized after buying my own home in the neighborhood that those doors couldn't possibly
be original. They must have converted the porch into a center room.
I still believe this to be true but geez that was some work!
I prefer my historic houses left original as much as possible so although I love the look of the
french doors from the outside. I'd never do this myself to a house.
And once inside...I don't care for it much.
What is up with that huge blue fleur de lis in the center of the tile floor?
That's just odd.

So inside it's not my taste at all but furnishings and paint would fix that.
Gray walls are in but in this house these walls are just too cold for how open and airy this house should feel.
There is an original art tile fireplace. A very nice one for that matter.
All the furniture is so wrong for this house. I do like that floor lamp though.

Kitchen has been opened up with wall between kitchen and breakfast nook removed.
Built in bench seating fills the room. Again not a choice I would have made.

Wine bar seems like a silly thing to have to me.

Kitchen is your standard galley. I'd paint these cabinets white of course and replace that rustic tile with a nice white subway tile. While I was at it...I'd take out that brown toned granite and replace it with Carrarra marble. Of course a different floor would be in order too.
Back to the center hall...I do wonder if this staircase is original.
I think that is a very strange fireplace in the corner. It's just terrible.
Whoever made over this house made so many awful decisions in renovation.
The true character of this home has been ruined. Oh..it could be fixed and restored but what a job!
What is that built in shelf thing to the left? Just weird.

Ah...a basic room. This just needs that hideous fan taken out and different furnishings.

Lots of unfortunate things happening here....why oh why?
Slate floor tile on the walls? No, no, no.
Mod, vessel sink....um..double no. At least they left the original arch and window.
This bath could be made nice again.

This is the upstairs bath. Not my cup of tea at all...but it fits the rest of the bad by southwest decor. What is up with the molding?

This bathroom looks like a cave. Triple yuck.

Here we have the attic turned master bedroom. I love all those windows.
This could be a fabulous room!

I'd love a bedroom overlooking the backyard.

 Love this bright little room.

Back upper deck has great possibilities.

You'd never think this house was this large from the front side...would you?
Small garage...lots of cement back here...that is strange. I think I'd cover some of it with pea gravel.
And then there is the basement/laundry.
Surprisingly its very scary..something right out of American Horror Story!

see full listing here

What do you think of this house?
It's a great house...but for me there are soooo many things that must be fixed to restore it's charm.
This book is not to be judged by it's cover.
Since seeing the inside I don't covet this home any more.
But... I'd love to come up with the plans of changing the inside into an appropriate
historic residence again. I'd love doing that as a matter of fact!

I hope you had a great 4th of July.
I was at the store all day...we had a potluck lunch full of all the typical 4th of July food.

My 4th of July depression is in full swing. (get it every year)
I need to have something to look forward to and fast.
